Sim Skunk Works Leonardo (SIAI Marchetti) SF-260 AM

thanks for reports and compliments
we expected some flaws in a brand new software, will take note and correct for next version.

I made a video with it flying some aerobatics over Headcorn, including spins and multiple variations of hammerhead turns. Maybe it can help someone whoā€™s on the fence about getting it. (I hope you donā€™t mind me posting the video here, otherwise Iā€™ll of course remove it)

Itā€™s truly a fantastic plane and if you are into aerobatics or just want a fast classic, I can highly recommend it.

Heā€™d better not mind. Thatā€™s a very nice demo youā€™ve made (and Iā€™ve subscribed to your channelā€¦Iā€™ll watch a few others tonight). A few questions and a comment:

Does it have a checklist and other documentation?

What are the avionics options? From my XP experience with this plane, it makes a nice cross-country machine due to its speed and great views.

Is there an option to silence the gear warning horn?

On short final and landing it looked like you were way below stall speed. IIRC speed over the threshold is about 80 kts with touchdown around 65 or a few kts less.

Your aerobatics were excellent, especially considering youā€™ve just bought the plane. I counted four times that I probably would have crashed and burned following the same series of maneuvers. Do you have any aerobatics tutorials?

Great job. Thanks for sharing your video and thoughts.

@MikeMikeMike363 thank you very much for your kind words and your subscription, Iā€™m glad you like the video =)

Yes it does have a checklist and it comes with two original manuals, from 1976 (Italian) and 1981 (English).

Iā€™m not sure if there is an option to switch the avionics, I havenā€™t found anything. Hopefully @PaternalSmile51 can answer that question. I donā€™t know if I missed a hidden click spot somewhere. I know that the F-104 has a hidden kneeboard, I havenā€™t found one in the SF-260 yet.

I havenā€™t found anything to silence the gear horn, but that doesnā€™t mean itā€™s not possible. I need to check the manual on that.

Thatā€™s true, I also noticed that. The stall speed seems to be too low. I was also below the stall speed during liftoff.

Thank you, thatā€™s very kind =) I havenā€™t done any tutorials yet, but if there is interest in it, I might give it a try =)

Regarding the bugs I wrote about earlier: The golden paint scheme is there =) There was an issue with the installation on my part.

My bad, I just checked the cockpit and you can silence the gear warning horn. I probably should have checked that before I made the video

Hello,
amazing video !
Very good handling, aerobatics are precise ,smooth and fluid. Most probably i could not do better.
Admittely stall speed in landing configuratio is a bit optimistic, will be corrected.

Hello,
Weā€™re are testing the aircraft following the SF260AM manual and checklist.
From what we have found it seems that the aircraft behaves very well during the acrobatic flight and is very stable in the level flight;Good work in the modeling of the cockpit and the outside, as well as the textures are excellent. just some notes that we found, to fix:

-Man. pressure not at the local pressure with ENG off
-turn and slip indicator slightly uncentered (turn indicator slightly left)
-loadmeter not in A or V (now is in Ā°C)
-COMM 1 linked with COMM 2 and NAV 1 linked with NAV 2
-XPNDR label only off and test at the moment
-High idle RPM on the ground (should be more ore less 800)
-too much power to keep 90/85 KIAS on final (now is 24-25 MP, should be 22 MP) [maybe too much drag with flaps LDG?]
-Fuel tanks selector works only with TIPs. No fuel consumption in wing tanks

Waiting for your feedback, I renew the greetings to all the group.

@PaternalSmile51 thank you very much for your kind words. Iā€™m glad you enjoyed the video =)

Itā€™s such a fun plane I just couldnā€™t stop doing maneuver after maneuver :grinning: Thank you for bringing it to the sim!

Bought this yesterday, wonderful model and fun to fly

ā€¦but please have a look (or should that be listen!! ) at the sounds if you can, as that is the only thing really letting this down.

Hello,
sounds were sampled from real ones, may be the sim somehow changes them.
May you be more specific ?
We noticed that with some headphones or earphones some time the highest rpm show a sort of resonance, which does not happen with speakers, is this to which you mean ?

Hi,

Not using headphones.

To me the sound is just a bit ā€˜sameyā€™ ā€¦Not a huge differance between rev ranges and to me it sounds looped (repetative!).
Hope that helps.

Would be interested in what others think ā€¦maybe itā€™s just me !

Hello,
I tried to fly with only the pilot on board.
If the weight of the co-pilot is reset in the menu, the load of the RIGHT pilot seat is reset (which for the simulator is that of the co-pilot but does not apply to the SF260). It is therefore necessary to reset the weight of the PILOT to obtain the correct configuration.
With TO flaps the aircraft takes off before the White Arc (around 50 knots?), but the aircraft at that speed is difficult to control: the effect of the pilot alone triggers an excessive tendency to roll, which can also occur, if the aircraft has not yet lifted off the ground with nose and left wing on the ground and tail up. This is excessive and needs to be corrected. In the indicated ground condition the propeller should collide with the ground and then break, in addition to the obvious blocking of the engine. This does not happen: even with the aircraft stopped and the engine running, by reducing the throttle to a minimum, the aircraft regains its taxi attitude. So also the contact points of the propeller need to be reviewed.
Take-off occurs ALMOST normally if you take off WITHOUT flaps but this does not correspond to what is stated in the manual.
Other than that, itā€™s a great product and Iā€™m definitely satisfied.
Liveries: could you add liveries of Libya and Nicaragua (which derives from the Ibican one)?
Thanks and good job

hello,
thanks for bug reports.
About low lift off speed itā€™s true and somehowt designed in order to simulate a sort of ā€œsecondo regimeā€ following an abrupt lift off attempt, where the power available could be less that necessaryā€¦
May be is an unecessary complication, has been done considering the training attitude of this airplane, will try to mitigate it.
Other flaws will be corrected in next version.

Is there a list of included liveries for the SF260?

Finally had a chance to do a quick flight to try everything out and I love it! Itā€™s an absolute blast to fly and I love the modeling and texturing of the cockpit.

Only thing I noticed was that the RPMs donā€™t seem to want to go below 2500 even with the prop lever all the way back, unless I reduce my manifold pressure. I canā€™t say Iā€™ve seen this behavior before so is it unique to the 260?

hello,
yes we noticed too as a result to a last minute prop pitch PID changes not really well tested It will be corrected in the next version.
btw: it is worst if you forget to shut down the electrical booster pump which is not needed in normal flight.

some posts earlier i mentioned the sound, especially when at full throttle it sounds for me like a bad sound loop. It misses the deep roar sound. While idle engine sound in cockpit is good and also if you throttle abit up, but full throttle, no. Outside sound is nothing close to this, i also posted a video from a sf-260 i recorded for comparison. i hope they fix this.
