Hi,
I am playing msfs on pc using windows store version. I encountered the installation issue for sim update 13 where it stopped installing correctly. Followed the instructions in the provided fix (UPDATE: Resolution of Sim Update 13 Download/Installation Issues) which solved the issue but has reset ALL my sim settings to default including all my graphics settings and controller profiles etc!! Is there any way to recover these??? I can’t remember how all my setiings were and in particular my controller profiles will likely take HOURS to setup all again
Hi there, Unfortunately that’s what happens when we get an SU. Happens most of the time.
Thats not all. Any of you with GSX noticed that the catering trucks, Baggage handling and crew bus no longer work.
Sometimes make you wonder if they have the right to make the update non-optional.
I’ve never had it happen. I wonder what causes it for some?
I don’t know…
I have GSX Pro and I haven’t tried the others … I usually just use the Pushback feature…Please give them some time to update their software…
If you had made a backup copy of your WGS folder, then restoring that MIGHT have restored all you settings.
NO, for the same reason that if you call MS for tech support on an issue with Windows 3.1 for DOS, they will tell you it is no longer supported.
With MSFS, as soon as they release an update, the previous version is no longer supported.
Imagine if MSFS players were running Su11, or Su12 or SU13 … Tech support would just EXPLODE
I was under the impression that controller settings were stored in the cloud. Have you tried logging out of your Xbox account and logging back in?
As for graphics settings, those are stored in the usercfg.opt file (PC). Unless you backed up your old one, you may need to set those again.
never had it happen previously
I don’t need support on the previous release…it worked.!!!
Patches never delete settings because user data is stored on the cloud as well as locally. Whenever they mismatch the cloud sync window asks you to choose which set to use (cloud or local) upon game launch. However after the bizarre situation with SU13 I think everything is possible now…
Local data set is deleted if you uninstall game and obviously if you delete local files on purpose as well. In that case data wiil be downloaded from cloud after you install game again, upon first launch if no local data is found or game will create a new default set if that fails. Anytime game launches normally and you exit normally as well a new cloud sync will be done, resulting in the current config set you have locally to be sent to cloud, and that will overwrite the existing cloud copy with whatever the local config status you have in game at that time.
Therefore if after a new install game fails to sync for whatever reason and there´s no local data set at all game will create a new default set. If you quit normally afterwards there´s nothing to do basically, unless you have a backup of your settings elsewhere or official support is able to restore any previous version on the cloud for your profile, in case it exists and in case that´s possible.
Unfortunatelly I learned in the past that it´s a good idea to keep always a local backup of your user settings anyway, to be used in case of problems. The files are located here:
\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe
Inside that directory the relevant folders and files are the following:
LocalCache folder:
* UserCfg.opt
* exe.xml (in case any of your aplications use it)
LocalState folder:
* localprofile
SystemAppData folder (your controls assignments)
* wgs subfolder
All you need to do in that case is placing the backup files in the same local folders they were and select the local data set when prompted by the sync window upon launch.
I would try to open a ticket before panic. If they are able to restore the cloud copy then you are safe. Maybe it´s just a temporary cloud service problem and original data set is still there. Anyway, from now onwards, I suggest you backup your settings periodically. Once every several months is enough if you don´t change settings or joystick assignments too frequently.
Cheers
thanks for info - makes sense. i have submitted a support ticket. incidentally i never got a prompt to use local/cloud settings. hopefully settings can be recovered otherwise this will be a nightmare!
I know the feeling. I had a problem like that during first year. Good luck!
Cheers
Every time there is an update, I always have to change my screen setting back from ‘Windowed’ to ‘Full Screen’. I don’t know why Asobo can’t leave that one alone.
I’ve had this too. When starting MSFS last night there were 5 setting screens. I also notice the server status shows offline and is greyed out., yet the online setting in DATA shows online. Live weather was working. I dread Sim Updates as there has been issues on nearly everyone. And being forced to update means the user knows what’s coming but cannot avoid it.
