Sim update 5 broke trim wheel - cant fly classic 172

Hi

I just install sim update 5 and noticed I cant using my Saitek trim wheel as I used to do 1 year.

2 reasons:

  1. if I rotate the trim wheel from -100 to 100, the trim travel only from -0.5 to 0.5 and not from -1.0 to 1.0 as before. the result is dead zone of some cycles and the begin end the end of trim travel range.

In control option I select "elevator trim axis (-100% to 100%) and checked the trim wheel moves the line correctly from -100% to 100%.

also the sensitivity is centered as default as before.

  1. the second problem is conflict between Saitek trim wheel and electrical trim only with deluxe aircraft like C172 classic | SR22 etcā€¦ the conflict results the trim cant move at all, just hear clicks from electrical trim.

PS

Autopilot of off all the time
there are no other buttons or axis connected to trim in control settings

I donā€™t know how to fix those 2 problem

I know itā€™s not really related to your specific problem, but the trim controls seem to be broken in general. Itā€™s so sensitive that one click instantly results in a 500fpm climb or decent. Iā€™m unable to trim for level flightā€¦ Like it wasnā€™t too sensitive allready beforešŸ˜’

Could you maybe post this in the bugs section to see if others are voting for this?
Iā€™ve tested this and to me the trim feels Okay, but if more simmers find itā€™s not, then Asobo should maybe tune it down a notch.

I noticed the same, but it differs per plane. In some planes the elevator trim works as it should, in other planes the trim seems to be at the max and I canā€™t adjust it. Iā€™ll write down with which planes I experience this and post it in the bugthread. But glad itā€™s probably not just me who is having this issue

Seems to be especially the c172. Some find it unflyable now.

I also struggle with my trim. One click on my assigned button causes the plane to change pitch by 500fpm immediately.

Edit: I only tried the 172 and the 152. Both are unflyable.

The over-sensitive input response has been present through SU4.

One suggestion I got was to blow away the mapping and remap the control. I havenā€™t tried this yet. When I spot-checked my mappings in SU5 after a test flight, I found a weird situation where the ā€œReverse Axisā€ was checked, and the Trim Wheel responded as if it was reversed (white bar). But in the cockpit, it acted just as normal - push forward for nose-down, pull back for nose-up. Itā€™s so bizarre.

Glad Iā€™m not the only one. One quick click of trim Iā€™m going up 1000ft/min, then one click down Iā€™m going down 1000ft/min. I put on auto-trim because it was near impossible to get the aircraft trimmed.

I did not have it in SU 4. So your suggestion is to reset everything to default and remap from scratch?

Just the trim wheel. Thatā€™s what Iā€™m going to do. Reverse Axis ā€œglitchā€ aside, all my other controls are working as they did in SU4. ā€œIf it ainā€™t broke, donā€™t fix it.ā€

I tried reassigning it but to no avail

Same here. +400h only with C172 Classic and since SU5 itā€™s impossible to fly.

I donā€™t use a wheel for trim, just a hat switch military style, but Iā€™ve found the elevator trim to actually be improved in SU5. Single clicks do seem to make more of a difference, so if I hold the switch like I did before Iā€™ll probably badly overcorrect but if I remember to go one click at a time I find itā€™s easier to find the right setting for the phase of flight Iā€™m in and I donā€™t lose track of where the trim wheel is, so to speak, nearly as much.

EDIT: There is a post in the bug reports section regarding the trim issue, please everyone that is annoyed by this go there and click the VOTE button. This really needs to be fixed.

Iā€™m using a joystick hat switch for trim and can confirm since this last update the trim is insanely sensitive in the 152/172. One fraction-of-a-second click on the trim button sends the nose way up or down. Itā€™s impossible to trim for level flight. I also tried using the mouse to move the trim wheel in the virtual cockpit and that is even worse than using the hat switch.

For anyone who cant find it.

I see the same.
Not full range. And I use the Y axis of the throttle of the Thrustmaster - the side knob. It only works for trim wheels, not for electrical rocker switches anymore.
In addition, the trim direction is now reversed. I can easily reverse it in the controls settings, but it seems that it worked the opposite way the wheel is turned or the indicator is showin (up is down and down is up).
To make things worse, it seems PMDG reversed the direction intheir patch, probably to address this for their users, the result is that I need to keep changing the reverse axis setting when switching aircrafā€¦

I had this problem with my X56 thumbwheelā€¦ the fix was to go to your content manager and update the packages requiring updatesā€¦ this includes the c172. After that it worked fine.

I have the same issue.

Yep having the same issue here. First time it happened it caused a stall which turned into a spin. Recovering from it was fun and I was able to land. This trim issue makes flying impossible.

Iā€™m using pretty much using the complete logitech package without the instrument pods and the FlightSimStuff Cessna Style throttle quadrant (which is awesome btw). Iā€™ve tried disabling all of the inputs for elevator trim and disconnecting all of the peripherals. It seems that the trim is always at 100%. The FlightSimStuff throttle can move it but only to the opposite position at 100%.

I have updated this on 2 other systems and both have the same issue. I dont even have any flight sticks attached to those. What surprises me the most is that thereā€™s been nothing online from the devā€™s saying they are at least looking into it.

I love how this is supposed to let us fly with the XBoX users but I guess we will have fun watching them fly by from the groundā€¦

Iā€™ve pretty much been only using the C172 after the update. I have the Carenado C182 and it doesnt seem to have the trim issue. Anyone else have planes that have working trims?
