SimShaker for Aviators - Feeld the brrrt

@f4l09993 , guys, I’m going mad and can’t get this to work.
I have a Buttkicker Gamer 2 which works flawlessly in iRacing and ATS. I have installed:

  • SSA beta v 2.2.7.0
  • Andre’s Sound Module (demo only for now until anything works)
  • SimConnect FSX_SP2 from the littlenavmap link the dev shared above.

When I run a test it works BOTH in the sound module test and the SSA “Test Vibe-Motors”.

BUT: I have the bloody red SimConnect Status: X :sob:
The SimConnect client shows as installed, but do I need to launch it somehow manually? There was also a hint with moving a .dll file, but not clear to me if and what I have to copy?

I saw a reboot helped one user above, but I’ve rebooted, but nope - 0 effects in MSFS!
Any ideas?

Replying myself, I just restarted everything, made sure SSA and the Sound module are running and the bloody SimConnect status finally turned green - no idea why!! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

With the demo I was only able to check the roll (DCS military concrete plates indeed ) and stall effects and both worked! So probably now it’s time to pay Andre for his tool.

BTW: somebody mentioned here having a connection to Andre. It’s nothing urgent, but if we could replace these concrete plates by proper ground vibrtions that would be cool…

OK, so for use with a G2 VR headset, I know I need the software noted in this thread (legacy SimConnect, and the 2 pieces of software from Andre/SSA/SSM to sit between SimConnect and the BK transducer)…but as far as the soundcard on the PC it is not clear if I can use the main MOBO soundcard output jacks to the BK or if I should get a dedicated USB soundcard or PCI soundcard to maximize the use of the telemetry data from the software. Do you need a separate soundcard (USB or PCI) to get that data to the BK (while using the G2 headset audio) or can I use the MOBO soundcard that has all ports empty at the moment as I don’t have external speakers of any kind. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for this post as it helps explain why it’s useful to buy a cheap USB soundcard to use with the BK and not have it share the internal MOBO soundcard with the VR headsets as that sends all sounds to both the VR headset and the BK (I think that’s why so many say to get a separate cheap sound card). The YT videos and instructional documents with the BK don’t make it clear and they seem to recommend the Voicemeeter software to act as a virtual soundcard instead of getting a dedicated USB or PCI soundcard for the BK). It looks like either route will work but I like the simplicity of dedicated USB soundcard and not another piece of software to keep up with when there are already 2 running with the BK to begin with.

Can someone help me to solve this random issue: sometimes the bass shaker set in the sound module (with dedicated soundcard) does not work…I see the effects transmitted and i can also test the soundcard through the windows Sound Options, but no sound/vibration comes out of the bass shaker.

I also have a Jetseat connected through Simshaker and this issue occurs only randomly.
The problem is that the only way to solve it is restart windows and try again… :frowning:

Could you have a USB port shutting off to save power? Windows usually defaults to that setting (on my PC) and you might have to change it in Device Manager to make sure the USB port stays powered at all times.

Anyone else getting this - I start MSFS in 2D, start a flight, rumble is there, I switch to VR (g2) and shaker stops, I switch back to 2d and shaker is back, i switch back to VR and get an error (Failed to launch VR, check OpenXR is available)

VR switch Problem
The error after switching to VR is a known problem since a few releases:
OpenXR > Settings > deactivate “Use the latest OpenXR Runtime”
(latest runtime minimally smoother but only once after start ; )

VR + Transducer vibration
Windows system settings > Mixed reality > Audio > “Deactivate headset mirror audio on desktop” or similar. And after switching to VR, take a look under sound settings to see whether the previously correct default assignment was changed by switching to the headset.

Best volume settings
The best balance of the volume between the dedicated sound card and the transducer amplifier was almost 50:50 in my system. This can be quickly assessed if you increase one volume as much as possible and significantly reduce the other (to be on the safe side). Thus, the range of individual possibilities should be quickly perceptible.

The optimal setting for emphasizing the subtle vibration differences through volume balance should be assessed individally based on the difference of the hardware components used and the resulting vibrations. In addition the fastening position and transmission of the vibrations is individual for each installation (rigidity of the chair, upholstery, cover etc.) and enables the perception of a unique sound/ vibration-image across the entire frequency spectrum. That can only unleash its maximum potential through individual fine-tuning.

Effect of “custom ground roll” (linked above)
With the correct volume the “custom ground roll” should trigger a slight permanent vibration even when rolling very slowly. Which becomes stronger with increasing speed and the bumps of the original ground roll file become more and more noticeable in parallel. If such an effect is noticeable in SimShaker for Aviators around 50% volume this would be a good starting point.

Gold star for that reply ! Many thanks again. Very good tips.

Anyone else unable to use this on window 11?

I don’t have Windows 11 so I can not test… Do you get any errors?

Greetings.
Not a simshaker related question (I think). I just got Buttkicker Gamer 2 and I set it all up as suggested above. The buttkicker keeps shutting down in about 8-10 minutes. I do not see it is overheated. Any suggestions to keep it on all the time?
Thanks for looking.

I have the same thing, it’s part of the Buttkicker amplifier and you can’t change it…but if you are using the BK while simming it won’t shut down. That 10 minute thing only shuts it down if it is not receiving any input from your sound card/PC or not adjusting the volume with the control box. So, when I am setting up MSFS which takes a while to fully load I tend to toggle the volume up/down a notch on the BK control box to reset the internal 10 minute timer that the BK amplifier has. Is yours shutting down even though the BK is running while you are simming? That might be an indication of a faulty BK if that’s the case.

Yes. It cuts off even if I am in the air. It just goes to sort of stand by mode.
Update. I have increased Engines strength a bit and APU as well. So far it is working constantly. I might have had very low strength settings.

Also. When do you start simshaker? Before or after the sim start? I noticed when I start simshaker the sim may freeze after aircraft selection when I click to start flying. Also I cannot exit the sim after the flight, End Flight button at the bottom if the sim window frozen. I cannot even exit the sim using X button. If I do not use simshaker I do not have such issues.
Thanks

Does anyone have issue with simshaker after SU6? Mine stopped working and I can’t make it to work. Simconnect shows green, same settings.

I just started the sim with SSA beta 2.2.8 and it receives data and generates effects…

Ok thanks. I will try beta as well.

Bought 4x Bass Shaker 50 Watts for 210€, a second hand 4x100W Onkyo amplifier (75€) and a 50€ equalizer, use VR so my regular soundcard is used for output to the Bass channels.
No software, just this equalizer (per someone here who mentioned that).
MSFS sound rumbles are good enough to make a proper shake for take off, wheels up, flaps down, spoilers,
I bolted (wood working clamps) the shakers underneath my 2 HOTAS and on to the armrests of my sim chair.
4x50W is not earth shaking (my neighbors will appreciate), but 4x100W is a lot more expensive, this is just enough for - believable - flight controls shake.

Thanks for the suggestion, but i use 3.5 jack audio connection to my sound card…i could try with usb.

Prior reading a thread from @ROMANDESIGN, i had no idea Simshaker or voicemeeter. Followed his threads. I am now got fully working rig for less than $A30.
4x 50W bass shakers & two old amps .. technic & sherwood in sheds for 15 years.
The only thing I have to buy is.. Andre sound module for $A30.
My VR immersion in DCS & MSFS increase 2 fold..
