SimWorks Studios and PILOT'S Dash 7!

I agree. This is precisely the issue with the beta range in msfs. To my knowledge there is no axis in msfs where there is a part of the axis which controls torque/MP and part of the axis that controls prop pitch. And, of course, at the end of the beta range the props are in reverse (negative) pitch.

On my system, when I pull the thrust levers back all the way it goes into reverse. I don’t have to press any buttons. Your system must be set up differently.

As some of you have already noticed, the Dash 7 v1.55 Beta is now available for those of you that have purchased the Dash 7 directly from PILOT’S.

In January we received some feedback that our Dash 7 was vastly underpowered, and were encouraged that certain changes should be made to bring out the full STOL capability the Dash 7 has. In hindsight, some of these changes that made it to our v1.50 release were a bit over the top, which would match some of the feedback we have since seen in various forums too.

Upon some further consultation and discussion with a real world Dash 7 pilot, we have now made some significant changes to the engine and flight model data. Of course our aim is still to retain our Dash 7’s STOL capability, to match this more closely with real world performance, at the same time also more accurately matching performance in climb up to cruise level.

We have now also custom coded a new barber pole mechanism that directly matches real world performance, the initial barber pole code that was given to us was not accurate and relied upon Asobo and Mircosoft’s implementation of barber pole coding.

A bug with the hydraulic fluid level gauge has also been addressed.

PILOT’S values your input, and to all of you wishing to test and fly our Dash 7 v1.55 Beta, we look forward to your feedback here in the forum or via PM.

Separate axis shouldn’t be required for this function. That was one of the easy things to build directly into the flight model in FSX/P3D.

MSFS was unfortunately a large step backwards concerning the flight model and even more the ability to modify it
when compared to FSX.

On the ground zero throttle should be DISC.

Ok, tried 1.55.
On SU15-beta, but it shouldn’t conflict afaik.

Some observations (17t gross weight):

  • Taxied nicely with 2+3 in feather, without running away like crazy.
  • Still seem overpowered. Doing 1500ft/m 180IAS up to FL150. Going by the PelitaAir manual: 175IAS 1200ft/m seem more like it. Even 125/150IAS mentioned as climb speeds.
  • Could still get her way above service ceiling of 22200ft. Reached FL310! TRQ started dropping at FL210. Should be earlier I presume…
  • ITT/T5 going haywire at start-up.
  • VMO indicator seem spot on now: 220IAS Fl100, 203IAS FL145, 191IAS FL195. Good!
  • Rattling and shaking seem to kick in too early though: 20ish knots below VMO.
  • Still very hard to slow down. Descending 1100ft/m, gear down, flaps 25 (even at 45), throttle idle, props full - and it wont/barely slows down.
  • TRQ stuck at max(486) - unless I go way back on throttle. Dunno if this is correct?

So just my 0,2$ - still needs slightly less power. Gear drag, flaps drag and especially prop drag needs an increase.

I know MSFS has a lot to improve for turboprops. Knows FSReborn(M500) been talking about this for a time (even tried to ask on the last Q&A) - especially the lack of prop drag. SWS PC-12 has some of the same problems too…

So: some more gear/flaps drag. Dunno if theres anything to do with prop-drag as the SDK is though.
Maybe take a look at the COWS DA42 flight model (I know its a turbocharged piston) - but seems to slow down very nicely on idle
Or take a look at 1.45 with Ungeener’s mod - slows down much faster…

Hope someone else can give some inputs, as I really like this plane!

FL310 - whooo

On my system I have neutral throttle set to disc and fully back to full reverse.

Thanks for your feedback!

The FL 250 operational limit will be addressed in the next update, we already have a working version here that needs a slight bit more of refinement.

The ITT/T5 needles are not going haywire on my side, could it be that you’re starting the engines in DISC instead of IDLE?

What rattling and shaking are you referring to, during what phase of flight?

We are aware that additional drag would be helpful for descent, this is being looked into too.

Cheers,

Jerome

Just had one flight in the beta and it feels good to me. I descended from 12000 to 3000 at 1500 fpm with throttles at flight idle and ias was about 200. When I reached 3000 the speed dropped back fairly quickly to about 140. Once gear and flaps were deployed speed dropped again to about 100 knots and I needed a little throttle to maintain 100 kts. Seemed about right to me but I am no Dash 7 expert.

Tnx Jerome!
I had the rattling sound and shaking all the time - climb, cruise, descend - well below(20ish kts) VMO.
At one point (on approach 3000ft) it suddenly disappeared.
Might be a one time bug, or maybe the Realturb app interfered in any way(?). Will try again when I got time (always a lack of time…).

Yeah, the drag is my biggest gripe…and still over-performing a bit😉

Keep working on it - its a really nice plane :+1:

Hi Jerome. Loving the Dash 7. One weird thing. When I disconnect the autopilot using my yoke button (assigned to ‘autopilot disconnect’) the autopilot disconnects but I am not getting the chirp sound. When I use the mouse to disconnect I do get the chirp sound. Are you using a special event for ap disconnect?
John.

That’s not even remotely correct.
1500ft/min at idle is almost jet like. No turboprop has has such a shallow glidepath at idle. Let alone the barndoor Dash7.

In landing config you should need a lot of power. If it’s gusty it’s easily possible to unintentionally trigger the automatic flap retraction IRL due to the high power setting.
At idle your pitch attitude should be close -10°.

Is this for Xbox too? And will there be a Dash8 Q400?

Dash 8 is being developed by a different company.

Cool. By who? When? And Xbox?

Progress Continues on the Majestic Dash-8 Q400 for MSFS Amid Challenges - MSFS Addons

No idea about Xbox.

Guess we’ll see

Don’t hold your breath.

Hi John,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I’ve managed to resolve this and it will be fixed in the next update.
