SimWorks Studios announced GA8 Airvan

Yep, making them feel organic is tricky. I think we’ve made it, but you guys will tell us with slightly less bias.

In the current framework, failures are based on age and (bad) luck. A component running at 100% power will fail sooner than one running at 60%. Still, the fresh component might fail first because there’s always a chance it can fail -albeit slim.

This one could be right in my wheelhouse as well. Seems like a nice all-rounder utility aircraft I can fly at night (here) and when it’s daytime in Australia. Looking forward to it.

We will be showing the Airvan for the first time this Wednesday, at Twitch

Plus release date!

This is great. The only time I’ve been in an Airvan was on a tour of Fraser Island in Australia circa 2018. A few weeks later the same plane crashed into the beach, and the sister plane ended up in the ocean. Would love to fly one in MSFS!

We have more Airvan news for you, now your plane will age over time. More details in the paragraphs below.

We have already opened the box of systems and discussed the different failure types: basic and cascading failures, how the environment affects the aircraft and how that all comes together to keep you on your toes. Now, let’s talk persistence! As we said on Twotonemurphy’s stream, the Airvan will have a memory, it will remember the state it was in when you last flew it.

This isn’t new, but is needed to take things a step further: the plane keeps track of time even when you don’t fly it! If you hangar the aircraft for a week to go on vacation, next time you come back everything will be a week “older”. Your engine, your avionics, your electronics, your filters - even the plane itself will be dirty because you left it exposed to the elements!

New Airplane

Plane left exposed to the environment for a few weeks

This gives a true sense of ownership to the airplane, as not only will it remember how you left it, but it will also age when you don’t use it. Your oil filter has a replacement interval of 50h, or 4 months -now the latter makes sense!
Last but not least, we promised that we will give away 10 free copies of the Airvan to community members, who will be free to review it without any restrictions on our side. As the release window is approaching, and we want to give you a proper chance to review it, we will post a form this weekend for those interested to apply for it. We are looking for people that will not only look at the good stuff, but that will provide good feedback to us and the community. The Airvan is a big project, and we believe the best advertisement is happy customers.

Is that true for the exterior (including the windows) and the interior. Does the interior also weather?

Random (persistent) bug splats on the windscreen that need to be cleaned would be sweet if you could some how add that on!

That being said, thank you for not overdoing the weathering effects! This is perfect. I know there’s probably a want and need to emphasize the effect but, it also shouldn’t look like it’s been sitting in a boneyard for five years after four flights. Well done!

No weathering on the interior as FS20 doesn’t have the shaders needed to make the weathering with the appropriate granularity.

The weathering will be redone for 2024 as that version has more capabilities in that regard.

And how long after the 2020 release will the 2024 version be?

I cannot give an exact date on that. What I can say is that we have the plane working in 2024. We have a tough decision to make re. career mode, as it is currently marketplace-only as said at 36:40 here.

Initial release will be on the Marketplace, but we have to see whether we can get career features to work for the non-MP customers some way.

Personally very happy not to have career mode if it meant I could only buy this on the marketplace.

I bring news about the launch date and availability on our website/marketplace at this first moment.

The FS2020 version of the aircraft is targeted for release on the Marketplace on Thursday, June 26th. The version available through our own website will follow in late July.

Anyone who purchases the FS2020 version will automatically receive the native FS2024 version for free once it’s released at the end of July.

We’re launching on the Marketplace first due to career mode compatibility, which is currently only supported for aircraft purchased through that platform. We have communicated the issue to MS/Asobo and will take this extra time to allow for a response and assess if we can give non-MP customers this option in some other way, or change the Marketplace pricing to reflect the difference.

That said, we are happy to be getting to the end of this development cycle and can’t wait to see your feedback about our new creation!

Happy to wait 6 weeks.

Yup. Releasing on the train wreck that is the Marketplace first while having weeks of delay on the external stores is an interesting move, to say the least. I will definitely wait!

I don’t understand the reasoning behind delaying the non Marketplace launch. But then, what do I know.

Anyway, I’ll wait.

@kaha300d Career compatibility is the reason. Career is only available for MP aircraft because thats the only way for Asobo to validate it works -although we have an SDK tool.

So if we release on both MS and SWS, only the first batch of customers get career features, although the product is identical.

That will lead to support issues 100% so we will release the 2020 version on MS only to ensure we don’t force non-MP customers to have an inferior product experience.

Then release 2020 non-MP and 2024 versions a month later. The only reason for the delay is to allow MS and us time to work around the problem. Alternatively, we do a non-career version -and still lose sales.

I now understand. You protect your customers. Good.

I do hope you’re able to work out a solution with Asobo, for them to allow non-marketplace planes to also have career mode compatibility.

Because honestly right now the marketplace is a train wreck and I would rather buy direct from the developer or a third party store.

I have an idea or two to circumvent the problem, but even if it works, the risk could be on the customer unless the policy changes -not happy to do that, or we quit career mode.

Personally I have given up on the career mode after trying it way back. Too clunky and awkward to be enjoyable. At this point the Marketplace is only relevant for me when it comes to products that are exclusively available on the Marketplace. Career mode compatibilty is no factor for me in any way, shape or form.

But if you need to release on the Marketplace first to make everyone happy who is using it, I’m fine with that. I lived without an Airvan my whole life, so I’m sure I can do without it a few more weeks.
