Simworks Studios Vans RV10

the broken CFD doesn’t help either

Not sure exactly what you mean but I am sure you had good reasons. The free castering nose wheel “hack” does the job for me to help with immersion using my toe brakes on pedals.

Yes indeed, working screens, working PMS and no sky4sim.

I have screens working but the tablet is completely black (I have sky4sim and PMS and installed the mod from the official site).
Any ideas about what could make the tablet black?
thanks!

Thanks for sharing your impressions! I’ve had my eye on the RV-10 since release and planned to consider buying it once the PMS50 GTN650 was compatible with it. Now that PMS50 also released a modded G3X which works better with their other avionics, I’m really tempted to get the RV-10. I like the SimWorks RV-14 a lot, and part of me wonders if the RV-10 is different enough to justify the purchase. Do you think the flight model and/or sounds are significantly different between the two? How is the visibility out of the cockpit on the RV-10?

Flight model and handling are very different. The RV-14 is aerobatic and snappy, while the Rv-10 is smoother and meant for cruising. Takeoff and landing feel very nice and smooth including short takeoffs.

Sounds for the RV-10 are better than the RV-14, really good sounds.

Visibility is fine but hard to compare with the RV-14’s bubble canopy.

Sounds like it’s probably a better fit for me. I’ve actually never done aerobatics in the RV-14. I’ve always flown it as a cross-country airplane for sightseeing, and I’m impressed at how stable it is, especially in MSFS turbulence and thermals. It is a lot less of a chore to fly in turbulence compared to the Just Flight Arrows. I think I’ll pick up the RV-10. It’s included in the Orbx sale right now, so it’s marked down a few dollars.

You’ll be happy with it. It is gentler on the controls than the RV-14. I actually prefer hand flying it to the RV-14.

I just bought the RV-10 from Orbx. First things first: I ran into the same blank screens problem as @kengou1. Long story short: the Sky4Sim package that comes with the installer is required for the PMS50 avionics version. Also, there is a separate package for the PMS50 that needs to be installed from the SimWorks website. SimWorks offers it as a download under the “Free Extras” section of their product page for the RV-10:

There is a compatibility table included in the download .zip file that shows which packages are necessary for each avionics option:

Following this table, I ended up with a total of 5 packages in my community folder in order to use the PMS50 option with this aircraft:

pms50-instrument-gtn750
sky4sim-os
sws-aircraft-vansrv10
sws-aircraft-vansrv10-pmsgtn
sws-pms50-gtn750WTT-aircraft-rv10

Figuring this out and getting the right combination took about 20 minutes, but once everything was squared away, I took the plane for a first flight. This is GREAT! Thanks to all for your input and recommendations on this thread. Very enjoyable to fly, and with the PMS50 package, the avionics and autopilot are VERY capable.

So let me clarify what I have. When I say no sky4sim is installed on my system I am talking about the actual sky4sim app. It seems a small sky4sim related package is still installed with the RV-10 I guess to allow an interface to sky4sim if you have it installed. So yes it seems this small package is required but not the actual sky4sim app.

I don’t have this. Where’s that one from?

Just came out. Available on the pms50 website under “view compatible aircraft.”

Just confirmed this works - just make sure that you update your pms50 to the latest version. Not having it at the latest version caused the black screens problem for me.

Cool, I found it. Thank you. What does it do though? Adds functionality to the pms50 mod?

I keep bouncing back and forth between devoting my sim time to GA flying vs. warbirds vs. bush flying. I just got done with a month and a half long warbird bender that has been extended due to the new BF-109.

Getting back into it today with some IFR with this fine RV-10, I love it. Everything about it is smooth and intuitive. But I’ve been out of the game for a while and haven’t been keeping up.

The WTT package adds support for the more sophisticated flight planner in the PMS50 GTN units. Without it, the GTN will default to the base MSFS flight planner. The WTT package adds things like visual approaches, better autopilot behavior, etc.

That’s very cool. Thank you. I’ll be using it.

Not only that, but the RV-10 is incompatible with the new WT GNS530 because the G3X can’t talk to it. So the nav mode on autopilot doesn’t work, ground speed shows 0 in flight, CDI doesn’t show deflection, etc. The WTT package fixes all of this.

Anyone else notice that the CHT and Oil Temp run way too hot in this thing? CHT over 400* 2400 RPM cruise, and it actually went up to 408 in a decent at 6" MP. Oil temp instantly climbs over 200* if you are climbing. Leaning has no noticeable effect.

Have you tried using the cowl flap? With the new engine setup in the RV10 they changed how the cooling etc. works, it now has a cowl flap instead of the old lower cowl opening. The new engine has been set-up to be much more efficient & better power. It works differently to all other RV’s…

I was looking for a cowl flap control, but didn’t see one. Regardless, you should not need cowl flaps in level flight, and def not in a decent.

Where’s the cowl flap control? I don’t see any reference to it in the current SWS manual.
