I, too, love this app, but since I upgraded to 1.2.0, I now experience huge lags and stutters every time I zoom in or out of the map. Causes the sim itself to pause every time I zoom in and out, as well.
Anyone else experiencing this? This is in 2D, by the way. Haven’t tested it yet in VR.
Thanks,
Bill
1.2.0 has been out a few days right? I’m stuck on 1.1.0 although that version included an auto updater. I’ve used the app everyday for the last week no update, what am I doing wrong?
Sorry for the dumb question, but how do I update the app?
I also have these freezes on map zoom, had it on the previous version as well. It doesn’t always happen, it may be to do with if the map is downloaded/cached?
As long as you had manually installed 1.1, then there should be an update button on the desktop app - it is on one of the tabs, options I think.
If you don’t have the update button or are still on 1.0, you can manually download 1.2 using your purchase email link

Launch Sky4Sim desktop, on the main ‘start/stop server’ screen go to Help->Check Update.

You must download the tool via the link you received by email during the purchase. This tool is fantastic, even more so since the last update, thank you for these improvements. I had a freeze of the card, after closing the window and reopening it returned to normal
I’ve also had these lags with older versions and this latest one when using the map, noticeable in my GPU graph I can see a drop momentarily.
Request: Make the clock slightly bigger in VR please, it’s great to have it but I find it a touch too small (doesn’t need to be massive though)
Have you changed map type to more basic grey land + roads type map layout view, it could just be data loading type delays with sat imagery.
For some odd reason I was still on 1.0.1 not 1.1.0, so didn’t have the option to update to 1.2.0. All good now.

Just purchased this app. It’s and example of excellent UI design! It appears way more simplistic than it actually is.
I have a few wishes for it, but it feels like it something that could have come with the sim!

This sim can make a person crazy.
After two full days of Sky4Sim map zoom in and out causing my system to stutter something fierce, it suddenly just stopped.
As in, one minute it’s stuttering, and a couple of hours later, it’s smooth as glass. I didn’t change anything, it just plain cured itself, I guess.
Welcome to MSFS 2020. It’s a ride. I love it, though.
Ii think the tags on this post are misleading. It implies its only a VR tool which it most definitely isn’t it’s only use, I don’t use VR yet it’s a fantastic tool. More people would see/read this thread & may be willing to give Sky4Sim a go if this post had more relevant & less niche tags. Just saying.
IMHO It would be better / more accurate with -
category: third-party-addon-discussion
sub category: tools-utilities
tags: navigation, vr, flight-planning, sky4sim, pc, add-on, tools
Also the title of the post implies VR only too.
I’ve been thinking a bit the same. No intention to mislead though… I posted here to flag the app to the VR community as we are desperate for ways to view extra information inside the headset, and there were constantly threads asking the best way to get maps etc. I’ll tweak the title slightly now and see later if can move it to 3rd party

Not suggesting you were, it’s just that it should have wide exposure. Many board members will just see VR though and scroll on by. Which is a shame as the app works well with both it would seem.

Is there a way to change the font size and icon size? Since the update they are too large for me in VR. Prior to update the size seemed correct?
I agree. Sometimes the map is not large enough to fit the names of the cities I’m flying over!
How about increasing the opacity of the text boxes? It seems my blue aircraft icon is constantly behind them so it makes it difficult to determine where my aircraft is on the map. The suggestion to reduce the size of the text would help too.
The opacity issue is noticable when around lots of airports. Not sure if its opacity or maybe the aircraft should just always be on top.
Please don’t reduce the fonts again as they were totally unreadable (microscopically tiny) at 4K on previous versions.
Make them scale with display res, that is the only way. Right now they work, I can read them. If they need a VR setting then perhaps that should be a user selectable option. Note I’m not on VR and this is not solely a VR plug in.
Yeah, that would be good to just overlay the aircraft icon over everything else. Where I had the problem of finding my aircraft was when I had a flight plan loaded for the Frequent Flyer achievement from LFBD to KSEA. When I zoomed out enough to see a large portion of my flight plan, there were so many white boxes with text to mark all of the waypoints along the way that almost my entire flight plan line was completely covered in white text boxes that hid the blue airplane icon. I had to zoom in so far to get some space between the text boxes to find my aircraft. I wasn’t using my G2 for the flight and haven’t tried the latest version of Sky4Sim in VR yet so I’m not sure about the text size in VR. Outside of VR though when I had Sky4Sim on my second monitor the text boxes and text were much larger than they needed to be.
