Hi there!
I really enjoy MSFS (with very good results and performance) on my system:
AMD 5600X
Asus B550 plus tuf gaming
32 GB RAM
RTX 3070 8GB
all on M.2 SSD
I use the “high” preset for the graphics settings with texture resolution and trees set to “ultra”, with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. The settings in the Nvidia control panel are all set to the default values.
The only complaint I have so far, is that the ground textures look a little blurred, and not as sharp as I´ve expected.
Which setting(s) in the options menu, could make the ground textures possilby sharper?
Thanks in advance for any input!

You need a screenshot because for all we know what you’re seeing is realistic seeing there is no detail at all. Real life isn’t pin sharp in the distance in most parts of the world in many weather conditions.
Of course 1080p is also not a high resolution (these days) so it doesn’t matter what texture settings you have, it isn’t going to be any sharper than your pixel density can physically display.

Thanks for the answer.
Compared to the Ortho4XP generated scenery I use in XP11 (ZL 16-18), it’s just too blurry. And I use this sim in Full HD, too.
Same for me, also using the ‘High’ preset at 1440p. I think it’s another long standing bug, but the sim looks awful like your photo - blurry and soft.

I had an old install of the sim on my old PC (with the same monitor), and it’s been perfectly sharp.
Might the problem be related to my internet connection? It’s actually super stable…
The screenshot was taken in Germany, near Cologne, by the way. And I’m running the last stable MSFS release (SU9), and not the latest SU10 beta.
we all like coords , the exact alt ( not that you have zoom lever 5000 ) … and… is Bing On ?
Example with VFR map on and 2550ft:
looks sharp for me… of course the forum half my screenshot resolution and it looks not like what I see on screen.

It’s been zoomed in a bit during approach, at around 15.000 ft. But it’s still visible at CRZ FL, viewed from the top down. And, the whole of Germany looks like that. Haven’t had the time to fly elsewhere…
It’s definitely the correct photo scenery, but I’m used to see better sharpness and higher resolution (like in your shot, or in YT videos, streams, etc.)
What are the recommend network and cache settings?
I can may be tomorrow redo it a 15000ft … but usually it looks ok for me ( more in special in germany ). My screen resolution is of course higher ( near 4K ) than Full-HD, but should be not blurry in full-hd too. I just wonder little bit about details, therefore I ask whether BING Data is realy on.
Currently I try since a while to have Rolling-Cache off, and the Pre-Cache at Ultra. But should not have an effect on that. Online-Data settings are all on, and other special network settings not exist.
I also remember a topic about LOD relation and Altitute… I think that can be also relevant for your case… may you can have a look: Revert max 400 LOD to 200 (bing texture issues)

Thx a lot for your valuable input. I haven’t touched the network settings at all since the last fresh install.
I’ll definitely check them when I’m back home.
With BING turned off, I shouldn’t see photo scenery at all, shouldn’t I?
My LOD levels are set to 100 (default value of the “high” preset).

no… PG can be disabled / enabled separately.
You can PG ( Bildmessung ) have off, while Bing is On ( but not opposite ).
LOD 100… okay… I think you can go higher. I’am on 190 with an i7-8700K/2080Ti/3840x1600. LOD is currently mostly CPU related ( the one mainthread ), so you can try some settings. I assume with 150 can you start and try stepwise higher values ( little steps, and I would not recommend more than 200 )… May be you get better results
( note: higher values can have negativ effect on fps on ground and very dense areas ).
May be also some other graphic settings can you stepwise increase ( little steps ).

I’ll have to check the network settings.
And I’ll increase the LOD settings.
The other settings don’t seem to have a huge impact on performance and visual appearance (between high and ultra that is).
I would definitely trade some FPS for better ground textures, as I have really good performance right now (50-60 in the PMDG 737 and 30-50 in the Fenix A320).

I’ve got to admit I’ve noticed that at around 5000’ I’m seeing very blurry ground textures in the near distance all around me all of a sudden while flying in the US. I’m currently at Garden City KGCK and things are looking bad.
I never noticed this until yesterday, what’s worse is I’m on beyond ultra preset with a Tlod of 250 and Olod of 200 and although I’m getting 50-70 FPS in DX11 @ 1440p custom resolution on a 1080p TV with SU10 Beta, the textures remain blurry untill I climb to around 10000’
I’ve also found that objects aren’t loading in as they should in the distance, but instead loading in batches like the old FSX days quite close to me.
I have a 1gb fiber connection and I’m hard wired.
These problems seem to have come out of nowhere. I may have to reset a few things like nvcp and see if that helps at all.

So, I’ve tried TLOD 190 and OLOD 110 last night. And while the ground textures were super sharp, the performance went totally downhill. In average, I got 10-12 fps less, which would be acceptable, but the whole experience became stuttery, with a lot of micro stutters, especially when looking around…
Does that look about right? This is with TLOD set to 190. I think that´s really super sharp.
It´s at around 6.000ft with zoom level 60.

thats what I mean… tLOD is currently stress for cpu and find a good setting is not easy. It depends very from the region you fly.
Whats your Pre-Cache setting ? For most users is Ultra the best choice.
and… Your new screenshot looks good, would I say

Pre Cache is set to “high”. I’ll give “ultra” a try tonight.
Do you think my screenshot looks legit for TLOD 190?
It looks what I have in mind, yes… tLOD is also the range, so may be the former mentioned topic ( LOD - altitute ) is realy relevant.

Pre Cache to “ultra” really brought some huge improvement in terms of smoothness. Less stuttering, and even 23-27 fps in the Fenix (on the ground of some payware airports) feel nice and fluid now.
Thx a lot!!!

just for info: sometimes the photogrammetry cause lower fps on ground, not only the higher tLOD values. Some users deactivated PG as these reason, but I prevere to see the PG areas too ( and hope for comming optimizations in msfs ).

Thx for that tip. I’ve recognised, that fps are at only around 21 @ EDDL, which is a photogrammetric city now. Once airborne, they’re back at 35-45.
