I have searched this topic and couldn’t find anything recent. I see there is some features to this but have yet to figure out if this even works. It’s like they threw a Alpha test in the game. This SIM needs to hurry up with tower cam which should have been a mandatory on the developers list from the onset.

I’ve been messing around with it and I’ve been able to manually select targets for the smartcam, which the camera will then turn to when I press “S”. But I don’t think I’ve been able to get it to automatically focus on the nearest airport, town, player, or point of interest since before the Japan update.
A real shame, since some of the achievements are tied to using it this way.
I’ve discovered that using the Camera from the top menu, the Snapshot view has targets listed that can be selected. Sometimes is lists nearest airports and if one is selected, the Snapshot camera view will point directly to the object.

Yes, it definitely works. I have this bound to my yokes PTT switch. When I am in the pattern, and have informed ATC I wish to land, it automatically focuses on the airstrip. I can keep the button down, and it will track that location which makes it easier to stay in the pattern.
It can also track other aircraft in your vicinity, though you have no real control over which if there are multiple.

I did not know that! I’ll need to have a play. If I could have those bound to a “PTT+HAT switch direction”, that would be really cool.
I haven’t found a tutorial on this anywhere. I was mainly interested in this since it seemed at least, I would be able to view my landing from the arrival airport since we’re still lacking a tower/airport cam.
I’ve never managed to get the Smart Cam to lock onto anything else but my departure runway. I can be 500 miles away on approach to my destination and clicking the button turns me to look towards my departure airport.

It is possible to move the drone camera to the tower or any location at the airport and freeze it while landing the plane. While using the drone camera, press “Tab” to unhook it from the airplane. Then use the drone camera keys to move it to wherever.

This reminds me of the FS9 ‘movable’ tower camera. I loved that feature and miss it soo much! I would place it at the gate and watch myself taxi in as if there was family/friends waiting for the plane at the gate like we did pre-9/11. Or anywhere along the runway threshold and admire my landings.
