Solution for bad performance at airports like EDDF

I found a possible solution to bad performance at airports such as EDDF and others. Disable the legacy FS 2020 “points of interest” that is streamed (at least in my case). That really brought down the performance at Frankfurt (EDDF), for example.

Where ? How ?

Are you referring to the removal of POI, city and route markers?

For Frankfurt, for example:

Go into the marketplace, click on “My Library”, search for “points of interest”, click on the down arrow at “World Update VI: Germany, Austria & Switzerland”, then mark “Frankfurt: Points of Interest”. At the bottom right of the screen, there should be a “disable” button. You will have to restart the sim for it to take effect.

Another, easier, way to disable streamed content, which I discovered yesterday:

Go to: C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache

Open the file “Content”
Search for “Franckfurt” - yes, spelled like this. Asobo spelled it wrong !

You should see:

Package name=“fs20-microsoft-franckfurt-point-of-interest” active=“Activated”

Change “Activated” to “UserDisabled” - written exactly like this.

Save file.

You can change ANY streamed content this way.

For example, if you want to disable New York JFK by Asobo, search for “KJFK” and look for this:

Package name=“fs24-asobo-airport-kjfk-new-york-jfk” active=“Activated”

Change Activated to UserDisabled, the same as above.

Then you don’t have to always start and restart the sim.

One thing I have noticed is that there are many lines for community folder scenery for some reason. For example, I have Orbx Skiathos and there are 4 lines:

Package name=community-lgsk-skiathos-orbx active=Activated
Package name=community-lgsk-skiathos-orbx active=Activated
Package name=community-lgsk-skiathos-orbx active=Activated
Package name=community-lgsk-skiathos-orbx active=Activated

I don’t know why… But I use MSFS Addons Linker to add third-party scenery as a link to another folder.

No, the FS2020 legacy points of interest included in the World Updates for FS2020. At Frankfurt, for example, FS2024 includes all the main buildings of the city so they are duplicated and that really slows down performance. That’s my experience anyway.

See this topic…

Ah I see, then it’s an issue with the sim

But won’t that disable the entire airport, not just the points of interest ?

I think the 2020 Asobo airports are disabled by default, because they exist now also as a 2024 package.
Same with airplanes I believe, e.g. the ATR 2020 version is disabled because there is a 2024 version.

The point of this thread is good, maybe they forgot to apply the same logic to the POIs and now they appear twice once we load a flight (2020 version and 2024 version) which causes bad performance. Could be possible.

No, it’s just the points of interest. The airport is listed under "Package name=“fs24-asobo-airport-eddf-frankfurt” active=“UserDisabled” (or Activated, if you have it active).

I mean, my performance at Frankfurt is really bad anyway, especially in the Fenix Airbus with FSLTL traffic. But disabling the FS2020 points of interest gave me a big performance boost and has enabled me to finally use the scenery with an acceptable framerate.

Yes, that’s what I think as well.
I had been trying to think what could possibly cause such a huge hit to performance at Frankfurt, for example, and then I realised that the old points of interest from FS2020 were still active.

i tried to filter the content.xml … this shows only Photogrammetry, TIN Packages aswell the POI of the respective MSFS2020 WU/CU ; sorted by the WU/CU (last column)

Wow, that’s extremely cool and useful !!

So is Frankfurt definitely exhibiting two sets of landmarks currently? If it is, it’s not obvious.

I’m not sure, but when I disabled the POIs ported from 2020 in World Update VI, I certainly saw a big performance increase.

Moved to User Support Hub as OP is providing assistance to the community.

Why does the community have to fix these bugs ? Why doesn’t Asobo and Microsoft fix all these bugs ? FS2024 is deeply flawed and Asobo and Microsoft need to step up. Are they going to leave the sim in this state over Christmas ?

I had this problem too.
EDDF was not playable at all. After disabling POIs, it was much better (but still bad tbh).

This thread saved my gamig expierience with FS2024. I was really frustrated that while flying in VR I had constant CTDs when I got near one of the handcrafted airports. Disabling the packages solved that immidiately.
It is a shame though that users have to figure out something like that. MS/Asobo have to fix the issue ASAP. It is in no way acceptable that we have to deactivate features just because they are poorly optimized. EDDF looks like c**p now, but at least it won’t crash my game anymore.
