Yep got it, F18 released a sonic boom you hear it when behind the craft, side top bottom and in front is silent. Sounds pretty good though.
Unless you are nosediving there is no sonic boom, no matter what altitude you are at you will never get to the speed for the sonic boom to happen
Get it on X all the time…
Just need something that goes fast enough…

It’s not an option. It happens when you go faster than a certain speed (which depends on altitude and weather but around 640-650 knots).
You also (accurately) don’t hear it from inside the cockpit or directly behind, in front, or to the side of the aircraft. It’s heard only at the right angle at 4-5 and 7-8 o cock and same deflection above and below.
Think of it as a shockwave that spreads conically behind the aircraft.
The F-18 can definitely get to that speed. You’re likely too low, or the weather is too warm.
