Start flight without walkaround (MSFS2024)

Also make it so any time I open the door of an aircraft I don’t just suddenly go outside, sometimes I like to do all my preflight checks with the door open, it doesn’t mean I want to go outside the aircraft.

Definitely make it optional. I literally can’t believe that this isn’t a thing already.

Yes, in a real world situation you would do a walkaround. It’s a vital step. But I want to simulate what goes on in the cockpit, not what goes on outside it. If the aircraft makes an inspection part of the challenge by having random (or history-related) failures that you could spot this way, I can see the appeal, a la A2A; but TBH I tend to turn off those kind of realism features in aircraft anyway, since I’m not trying to simulate actually owning an aircraft with all the maintenance etc that goes with it. I’m never going to do career mode, either. I’m trying to simulate flying an aircraft. That’s all I’m bothered about.

Just let us turn it off and then everyone can be happy.

I totally agree. Nice feature for some I guess but we know that nothing will be wrong with the aircraft in the sim (unless A2A as you mentioned).

How to enter an Airbus after walkaround ?
No Steps available ???

To SKIP the walkaround press “shift+c”.

are the engine/pitot covers etc. automatically removed as well?

If you Shift-C into the cockpit all the covers will still be on…

I didn’t have to do any walkaround yesterday, but I didn’t start on a parking spot.

Instead try this. Click on the world map where you want to start (perhaps right next to a parking spot) and choose it as Departure. Then choose Start OnThe Ground - Shutdown (or words to that effect) from the Departure drop down menu above the world map. That should put you In the cockpit cold and dark without having to do a walkaround.

No guarantees, though. Can’t check myself right now.

I’m almost slightly offended that people only want to do 50% of the work that real pilots do. Honestly, who am I kidding. Not even little kids want to be pilots anymore.

So we should start in the briefing room and do a full briefing, or start at the hotel and drive to the airport first? Another thing is… do you think that real airline pilots remove engine covers on their 747 before take off?

I mean… I have nothing against it being an option, but since we can also start at the runway with engines turned on and ready for take off, we should also be able to start cold and dark at a parking spot without needing to remove engine covers from an airliner.

I think really depends. Realistically the GA stuff and Biz stuff gets put to bed. And for jet airliners, I would think most companies putting covers on if the plane sitting for more than one day. Cause birds and bugs more so can be an issue I would think than just the Northern US. Someone would have to confirm in JFK when some of the elites come in with their airliners turned biz jets, if those getting covers put on if they’re sitting for a week.

Personally, I think it’s a nice touch. And for the smaller planes for sure it adds another level of realism than just starting cold and dark.

Asobo, this kind of things… they should be optional. come on
think about it,
just because I think something is super cool and i’m super hyped about it, doesnt mean everyone will see it the same way as me
the solution? simple! make it an option! and problem solved
(and a persistent option please… it doesn’t do much good otherwise)

It should still be optional.
Also, I am talking specifically about airliners and I guarantee you, it is not captain’s or first officer’s job to remove pitot and engine covers (how do you think it would be done? Captain taking a ladder or a crane to remove those covers? ) . This part of the sim is actually completely unrealistic.

yeah this feature is horrible. I don’t want to collect “remove before-flight” signs and kick the tires every time.

I’ll do one better. There should be an option in the configuration menu of each airplane that gets specifically tethered to that plane allowing for miscellaneous cold and dark options. So for instance much like panel saves.

But I get where you’re coming from. Most pilots of mainstream airliners don’t deal with the removal of covers and pins. They check to see if they’re removed and accounted for, mechanics do the removal. And most people never see covers or pins when it’s sitting at the gate.

Sure it’s possible to change this as an option. Would be cool to change the spawn location too. Mine would probably be Starbucks or insert another coffee shop.

Just adding a walk around with a checklist doesn’t necessarily make each flight more accurate, when starting a free flight with an airliner for example, part of the checklist is to take off the engine covers. That’s just not something a pilot from a large airline would be doing.

There should be the ability to make it optional if you want to.

Just change the topic in to “Make it optional” - That is ALWAYS the best solution.

You just want to fly around… but you need the check pitot before… boring not being an option…

Completely agree this should be optional.

It’s going to get boring having to do this everytime we start a flight.

Yes maybe it’s more realistic but we don’t need that realism forced on us every time.

I haven’t got the sim to work yet but maybe there is an option in settings already. If not my vote is in for this one.

Didn’t think about it till now but how will walk around work on amphibious planes?
