Still having big issues with DX12

Crash’s, stuttering really can’t use DX12. Is this gonna get fixed before release?

FYI, you may want to listen to the April Developer Live Steam,

Stutters were discussed about 49 minutes after the start.
DX11 & DX12 issues were discussed about 64 minutes after the start.

I run DX12 exclusively it runs like butter (no stutters) and I have no CTDs.

Are you pushing MSFS above what your system can handle? Or possibily have some CPU/RAM stability issues? Could be so many things. Such as a simple video driver that does not play well on your system.

Only complainit I have with DX12 is the ground texture issue at airports when changing views. Should have been addressed long ago.

Ok there is the difference…I am running SU14.

Did you buy chance recently update your Win11 Pro? The latest updates causes massive stutters in SU14.

Are you talking about 23H2?
I’ve been reading reports all over the gaming web about that one causing a lot of problems. According to OP’s sysinfo, he is on that build.

Version 23H2 (OS build 22631 )

But he’s on SU15 Beta. Which means 23H2 might not be playing nice with that update either.

Darn i just updated last night… hope i dont have the same issue

Yes that is what I am alluding to. Specifically for me:

2024-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5036893)

2024-04 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 (KB5036620)

Had to remove both of those updates to restore performance…it was absolutely horrendous.

You ended up removing them?

Had you tried this fix first and then decided you needed to remove the update anyhow?

I ask, because I just did that fix yesterday.

The above fix that I originally posted did not totally fix it for me. The stutters came back.

What did completely fix the stuttering was removing the two updates above.

Does removing them place you back on, what, 22H2?

Am I the only one who stuck to win 10 and feel the sim is ok on my setup?

I am dreading the win10 end of life date.

You will still be on 23H2 just a different build number.

The above update was to roll out Moment 5 with some other fixes…Wasted alot of time tracking it down.

Interesting. I switched to DX12 and never looked back. I runs really good for me and it seems to be a bit easier on the cpu (which i am short of). The only issue i have are some strange artifacts in the water. But i can live with that.

Got rid of both KB5036893, and KB5036620 did not change a thing. Which may mean I have a different problem.

I installed the two windows updates referenced by @BoboSkypark on 04/15 and have not noticed any difference. I have not seen any performance degradation w.r.t. either crashes or stutters.

I have seen a drop in FPS, but that is due to the new 55" TV I installed, and the significant increase in pixels that my GPU now has to render.

I’ve conducted multiple test flights, including around Manhattan Island, and all are really smooth at ~40 FPS (33% of 120 Hz). I still get a single stutter when approaching large airports, but that is a “known issue” on my PC as the sim tries to load all the AI traffic & airport scenery at the same time from my HDD.

Partial Specs & settings:

with a few more differences too:

  • i7-9700K CPU (I have an i7-12700K)
  • ASUSTeK Prime Z390-P motherboard (Mine is an MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI)
  • Page File Space 2.00 GB (Mine is 32 GB)
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti GPU (Mine is an Intel Arc 770)

Would be useful to hear if others with an RTX 4070 Ti are also having crash’s & stuttering on v1.37.12.0.

Just wanted to follow up. I re-installed the two updates and again had issues. I then applied the above fix and all is working. So the same bug that was in the original 23H2 release is present in the the update KB5036893.

Ok, so you have the updates again and the fix and it’s good. Do you think you’ll see the issues come back like you did before?

Of course, that is sort of impossible to answer without waiting and seeing…
