Many VFR obstacles beyond a certain view distance cause ghosting artifacts against clouds. This was present in 2020 for a while but was reduced to be not so noticeable. But it’s back to being very noticeable with the new cloud rendering in 2024. No changes to anti-aliasing have any effect. DLSS & TAA can be completely turned off & the effect remains. It’s particularly bad on wind turbines. (Dont mind the vegetation around the sea turbines, that’s a completely separate bug)

I think there is two different issues where you can see “white shimmering” around objects. One is thin moving objects against the clouds, which the picture above of the windmill illustrates. And also I think this is whats happening in the original picture up top too.

The other, where you sometimes will see like a white shimmering outline on some objects, can be because of the use of transparency in the Albedo maps used on the texture. It is at least a typical cause of what could be causing that.

I know this is a bug thread, but afaik this is something that is a side effect of the tech used on the clouds in the game, and affects effectively everyone.

i get that white shimmering outline on mountains in the distance,i found that using dlss with performace made is so much better

Same issue on Xbox, shimmering on trees and mountains in front of dark clouds

Description of the issue:

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
Yes, tried without. Happens without any addons.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Seems to happen at certain cloud covers types, but i’ve run into this a lot of times that i think its not very specific conditions required to reproduce this graphical issue.

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Depends on the weather im flying in of course. Its consistently happening for me in the right conditions (im not sure what defines it since i wasn’t able to replicate it with weather presets) I remember this being an issue in 2020 in some patch i can’t recall as of now, asobo was able to fix it back then so i hope this is similar and is fixable!

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Seems to happen with live weather (still unsure as i couldn’t repro with weather presets, at least not in this attempt) Find an airport with overcast/cloudy conditions, and with trees or mountains/hills around. It seems to happen more at close to night time when the sky is still bright, but the ground level is darker.
  2. Move/pan the camera to produce the effect, the sky will sometimes bleed through the edges of the terrain or trees, its very evident on trees when it happens.
  3. Seems to only happen in motion, not alot is required, even a slow taxi is enough to make it happen.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

Not relevant, but im using warthog hotas and track ir.

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it? No

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?
Im on 2024

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version: Nvidia 566.36

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

3080ti, 5800X3D, 32 gb RAM

I have the same issue, it just kills the realism

Have the same issue. It seems to happen when the relatively bright sky (sunset/twilights/etc.) is hidden behind the much darker cloud layer — then it “leaks” on edges of objects of many types. Leafless trees are especially horrible, as their “leaks” are thick and flicker on every move.

And I agree, that’s exactly the same effect which we encountered in MSFS2020 years ago.

It’s odd how its suddenly back in a updated and supposedly superior sim graphically… Thanks for adding to the post!

same problem with dark clouds… it only happens when you are in ground… I leave 2 screenshots… you have to open them and zoom in to see them…

vote and let’s fix this bug asap because it loses a lot of the immersion of the sim
