Strange Sim Rate Problem with Xbox compared to PC

Strange Sim Rate Problem with Xbox compared to PC

I fly regularly online with a group of people who are using PC’s and I’m on an Xbox Series X.

I’m always well behind everyone else which is very noticeable with the faster planes, even though I’m doing the same or faster ground speed. For example today the flight time for the PC users was 1 hour 43 minutes and mine was 2 hours 34 minutes (even though I confirmed many time with them that my ground speed was equal or faster).

After the flight, while still in the Sim a PC user and I used the timer in the Nav Log function from the top menu and my timer was running just slightly over half the speed of his.

This has been an ongoing problem from the start and not something that has just occurred recently. Also doesn’t seem to be tied to any particular plane or location as we fly all over the world in different events with different planes.

It seems like my sim rate is much slower than the PC users but there is nothing I have set or doing that would affect the sim rate.

My questions:

  1. Has any other Xbox user noticed this.

  2. Is there any way to display the sim rate on the Xbox in flight

  3. Does anyone have any idea of what could be happening and how to fix it.

Thanks for any help!

This sounds like the problem reported by multiple people in this thread:

So yes, it’s real and other people have the problem. It sounds like the sim rate is still set correctly but something just doesn’t add up real time correctly, and nobody’s sure yet why.

Thanks for the info.

Much appreciated

I assume you’ve compared to actual flight time (IRL)? To insure yours is not accurate and theirs is not actually too fast?

I’m on XSX and have never had a problem with flight time being accurate in hundreds of hours. Especially not drastically.

One thing I’ve learned with Xbox and the forums…almost everyone has a different experience. Very strange for consoles to have such differing results, but somehow it does.

Sheer number of variables, is the conclusion I and many others have come to. MSFS is without doubt the most complex piece of software any consumer console has ever had to deal with.

I was flying with the author of the thread this morning. We flew a HondaJet for about a two hr flight at FL410. Along the track, we compared ground speed which was similar yet the Xbox Pilot continued to fall behind the rest of the group. I suggested we compare the way the sim saw time and hence the use of the NavLog functionality in the sim to set the stop watch and compare results over a period of time. This is where we were surprised at how slower the time was on the Xbox Pilots sim. As a comment, my timing compared with an actual stop watch that I have.

This helped explain how we could have the same performance but not move through the world at the same pace.

So I’m understanding, did he fall behind in distance and time…or just time?

I guess another way to ask is did it take more time in reality for him to get from point A to point B?

Cheers

He lagged behind the rest of the group (who were PC based). He even used slew to attempt to catch up at one point. We compared log entries at the end of the flight and his was greater than the time my flight took.

As I mentioned, we compared performance along the way and it was similar to ours, hence the frustration with him not staying with the rest of the group.

We have noticed this in the past, particularly in small jets like the CJ4 over long distances.

One rather funny episode was when I flew straight past him and he was travelling faster than I was.

Thanks for explaining.
Very strange that is happening. Surely not the controllable sim rate as that would very noticeable and not gradual.
