Hi, does anyone have ugly winter/snow textures loading west of Geneva, when approaching runway 04? Darker textures continuously pop up over existing ones, as shown in the attached screenshot. I have a TLOD of 300, but even if I increase it to 400, nothing changes (FS2024).
Hi @Jumbojam2385 ,
Thank you for this report. We’ve moved your topic into the User Support Hub.
The Bug Reporting Hub is for posting suspected or confirmed bugs that other users are able to reproduce without duplicating an existing bug report. Using the template or providing all the relevant information about your bug and sim setup is required in order to provide valuable information, feedback, and replication steps to our test team.
If you are not sure if your issue is a bug or need further input from the community, please use the User Support Hub category. If the community can replicate your issue, first search the Bug category to see if there’s an existing topic. If it already exists, contribute to that report. Duplicate bug reports will be closed.
If you believe it is a new report and no duplicate exists, then create a new bug topic using the provided topic template.
All issues caused by or involving third-party addons/mods should be reported to the third-party developer. Assure that no addons/mods are used when reporting issues in Bug Reports.
I do have that weird snow/ black popping around Meiringen Airbase - idk if it’s the same issue though.
Couldn’t fix it with any setting I tried and gave up trying. It’s only visible with snow here, normal visuals look fine.
Yes, indeed. I tried with no snow and things are ok. I hope Asobo is aware of the issue…
I had the same issues just outside of Toronto.
Since this is something that should never be seen happening, regardless of hardware or settings within the simulator, then it is by definition a bug regardless of whether anyone else can reproduce it or not. Also, at the time of reporting any given bug, the reporter does not know if it can be reproduced by anyone else or not. Are you saying no bug should be reported as a bug until someone else has verified they see it too in the User Support section?
The main reason why this topic has been moved to the User Support Hub is because the provided template has been deleted. When reporting an issue in the Bug Reporting Hub it is important to do not delete the template, filling in all required fields (especially reproduction steps), they are important for the devs and users to replicate/contribute to it.
Also if OP is not sure if it is a bug and ask for users if they can replicate, then the best place to make the question is the User Support Hub . If issue can be replicated then a report can be created in the Bug Reporting Hub. Hope it clarifies.
It’s hard to know if it is a scenery bug, or MSFS limiting your TLOD / LOD.
When I see it, I assume there is still unoptimized scenery out there (not updated with the new LOD system), but I’m just guessing.
On the other hand, even if you have TLOD at 400, and trees, etc at Ultra, if you have Dynamic on in Graphics settings, MSFS will reduce TLOD and/or LOD dynamically when it needs to in order to maintain your minimum FPS. It’s shown in the FPS overlay as TLOD Factor. Example: 0.5 would be 50%. When this happens, the TLOD distance “cone” around your view is reduced, so as things on the edge of that move, they can still pop in and out…
Even without TLOD being limited, I’ve noticed a few times, with maximum graphics settings (TLOD 400, everything Ultra, TAA) flying over some mountain ranges the trees will fill in progressively in each grid square as they come in to range of whatever the TLOD distance cone is. It’s not as bad as popping in, since it’s more like a progressive fill of each square - but still noticeable.
Most probably it’s a LOD issue, when loading LODs of trees over the mountains, but it is absolutely bad implemented, because those loaded trees areas are evidently much darker than the underlaying textures. Further, they pop in a strange way, like flashing, until they stay definitely as you approach them. This issue can 100% be reproduced with today’s weather in Geneva, I think there is also an interaction with clouds and visibility. With different weather settings they are much less visible and almost “normal” when there is no snow at all. By the way, I don’t have Dynamic on and my TLOD is 300.
I’ve seen this issue elsewhere in the Alps - snow textures tiling in over non-snow textures or vice versa.
See related report: Ground snow overlay popping in and out with distance
I have it same also on ground without snow… ground texture flashes when loading up when flying on low altitude…
