If it still didn’t work, you can also try the following steps before entering the command above:
Go to the folder: C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\StreamedPackages (The path for Steam is different.)
Delete all folders in this directory. (This should allow the game to redownload all packages, which may resolve potential corrupted game packages.)
If that still doesn’t work, you could try reinstalling the game and then running the first command again. This should resolve the issue.
This was my Problem:
I encountered the red man error during my first setup as well. I managed to progress to the next step without selecting a character because none were listed for me. The red man error persisted in the game and caused issues in Career Mode. I attempted to change my character later in my profile settings, but no selectable characters were listed, and the game continued to crash.
I also tried other fixes suggested in this thread, but they didn’t solve the issue. Reinstalling the game didn’t work because the save and configuration files are automatically synced to the cloud and downloaded again when the game starts.
Eventually, I found a way to delete the cloud save using the terminal command listed above.
This is what worked for me, I figured it was a cloud save issue. I had the same thing where the character creation didn’t work when I first loaded the game so was stuck with the Red Error Man.
I even tried installing on a different computer but the issue would follow me.
I woke up today thinking ‘I’ll try and find a way to delete the cloud save’

Yep, tried that command line wizardry to delete the cloud save, removed the contents of the streaming folder, reinstalled from scratch. Still CTD’s after a completely fresh start.
I have this on Xbox. Game skipped character creation in first play leaving me once I’ve finally got in with the Big Red Just Stop Playing protester. I tried customising character in game and it would crash. Tried reinstalling and it would crash. Tried deleting cloud save. Deleting and reinstalling. It would try the initial setup again but crash as soon as I try to change character during initial setup. So deleted cloud save again and deleted all offline traces on my Xbox. Launched cloud play and it also crashed during character setup. Tried again with cloud play and it literally wouldn’t recognise any input. Tried a 3rd time with cloud play and it once again crashed on character creation. 10 hours and 1 30 minute flight over London taking the Big Red Just Stop Playing protester for a ride I think I’m done. 2nd ever game I’ll refund as it’s just not worth getting so annoyed on one game. Better to play games that just work.
Microsoft denied my refund request stating I’d reached the limit of refunds for the year… I’ve never refunded a product from Microsoft… this is literally the first Xbox game I have ever bought! Only using game pass since I decided to pick one up for flight sim 2020. There seems to be no appeal system, no way to complain and no way to get my £129 back. It’s bad as a consumer we have no defence against this at all. I’m sure I could charge back through PayPal but that’d be me probably screwed from ever playing another Xbox game as I’m sure they’d close or block my account.
I am in the Uk and have finally got this working on my Xbox. No problems so far, had two or three flights and went into training, all ok. Have also got this working on my Lenovo Legion Go hand held and it works early well.
I wonder how much this particular issue is on Microsoft’s radar.
They keep saying they see more people log in but at the same time a huge amount of people can’t because of this issue, or because they are from the UK
OK so now it’s started working for me. I started with the usual Big Red Just Stop Playing Protester and had the issue with constant CTDs if I tried to change my character appearance. This also broke the cold start & walk arounds.
So I tried loading into flight on the runway in various aircraft and eventually the A400M loaded in with the pilot as a default character, which I can now change in the character editor without problem.
Whether MS quietly fixed something in the background or I just got lucky I don’t know, but the problem has gone away.
This also worked for me. Thank you. I tried without uninstalling first but that was a firm no! So I uninstalled, reinstalled and followed your command prompt and I can now actually get in my plane.

If anyone get spawned normal guy as pilot - quickly go to menu - this is your chance to swap identity A400 always crashed, but ventus works. Spawned on runway.
Had the same problem since two days! Tried VPN, re-installed, and so on, nothing worked.
My solution to fix it:
My Internet LAN cable (750mbit fiber optic connection) was not connected directly to my modem, it was connected to the splitter.
I connected the LAN cable directly to the modem and it worked immediately!
For some reason, I still cannot get this fixed, tried deleting the cloud saves but I still have the Red pilot holding Error message
this is sadly breaking lot of the game ( cannot do cold and dark starts, cannot exit planes to do photography etc. )
hope Asobo does find a solution to this soon
I do remember seeing that red pilot in 2020 too at some point, but it got fixed after restart typically , only remember seeing it once or twice
