Stucked at 8 FPS : very low CPU and GPU usage (i5 10400F and RTX 3070)

Hi everyone,

First, I know this issue has been reported hundred times but I don’t find any solution to my problem.

Brief description of the issue:

I am stuck at 5-10 FPS, no matter where I am (ground, air, low density…) even with very low graphic settings.

My GPU & CPU are used at only 20-30% as shown (screenshot in game):

In devmod, once it says gpu limited :

and 1 sec after :

A weird situation I noticed is that GPU and CPU are nearly 100% used in menu and loading scene but when the game is loaded it drops to 20-30% with 5-10 FPS. I just tried DX12 but nothing has changed.

The problem only occurs with this game : I play Assetto Corsa Competizione, CS:GO, Warzone… and my CPU and GPU work at their maximum capacity.

I tried to reinstall the game with no change.

A good thing to know is that I played MFS 6 months ago with the exact same configuration but my OS was W10 and I had 40-100 FPS, I moved to W11 1 month ago and it’s the first time I start the game with this OS. Could it be linked ?

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?

No

Have you disabled/removed all your mods and addons?

I don’t have any mods or add-ons

PC specs and/or peripheral set up if relevant:

Here are my specs :

  • GPU : EVGA 3070 (undervolted to 0.95mV at 2000MHz)
  • CPU : i5-10400F
  • RAM : 16 GB at 3200MHz
  • SSD : Crucial P3 1TB
  • Monitor : 2560x1440p at 165Hz

With eveything off/low :

Usage in game with low settings :

It looks like something is off in windows/game settings. My CPU and GPU are clearly underused as you can see.

It is strange that you’re limited by GPU but the GPU is also indicating “utilization limit” so you should definitely get more performance out of your system.
One more thing to try is to enable Hardware Accelerated Graphics Scheduling (HAGS) in Windows Graphics settings, and enable Game Mode as well.
Additionally, try to force maximum performance in Nvidia’s control panel for MSFS.

Hope you get it solved soon!

HAGS is already enabled. How can I enable Game Mode and maximum performance for MSFS ?

Thanks for your help I’m so lost with this issue…

Do you have any addon ?, have you tried to run with your community folder empty or in safe mode ?
Do you have the latest drivers for your graphic card ?

What, if anything runs in the background?

I don’t have any mods or add-ons. My drivers are up to date.

Ok, Game Mode was already on. For Nvidia power management, I don’t have “Power Management Mode” in my settings.

Do you have any other games that may stress your system? If so what is their performance like?

This is weird indeed. I have the same system and it is running smooth for me in High settings and LOD100.

Do you have some sort of power management enabled that reduces cpu/gpu power?

And it is consistent, like always those low fps or sometimes?

Restore settings.

Uninstall MSI Afterburner.

Restart PC

Download latest nvidia drivers

I don’t have any other game opened while I play MFS. (I only have Google Chrome opened)

I agree with the earlier post to re-install the latest NVidia GPU driver (and also don’t undervolt the GPU just leave it stock). Clear the shader cache by going into NVidia control panel and changing the shader cache to 0, reboot the pc to let that cache get cleared, then set the shader cache to 5gb or 10gb (the exact size is not important).

I did everything and… it works! The issue was due to X1 Precision (EVGA app to control GPU LED Sync, Fan Speed, Clock…). When I tried to reinstall it while in game I came from 60 FPS to 8 immediatley and the CPU & CPU stop working. I don’t know what exact thing cause this problem but I uninstall it and everything goes back to normal. Thanks!
