I have noticed the world map stutters since the last update. First version I have ever seen this. VR in cockpit has become a slideshow most of the time. Before the last update it was so nice and smooth. Now it’s unplayable. No mater what settings I run even on globally Low settings, I still shutters. Gotta be server side.
You could try turning off ‘Screen Captures’, X-Box Tool Bar in Windows if you have not already done so. Empty out your Nvidia Shader Cache.
There are a number of videos on you tube… #msfs2020 | Performance Tweak | Reduce Stutters and Boost FPS - YouTube
I guess you have tried all the on-line remedies?
Charles.
I don’t know if shader cache in general is helpful on MSFS. I basically turned it completely off and nothing really changed on any game for me
PumpkinZoo,
Perhaps you could try and run Microsoft Security Scanner to check your system out, if you have not already done so. Just in case something nasty has found it’s way onto your system. This free scanner can find problems when your regular anti-virus fails, it runs without installing.
Check your system health by running System File Checker from the CMD prompt as an Admisistrator.
Microsoft Safety Scanner Download | Microsoft Learn
Disable your anti-virus and run MSFS and if not already done so, set-up exclusions in your anti-virus for all MSFS folders.
Some people disable HPET from the Device Manager, (High Precision Event Timer). There are so many videos claiming to rid the simulator of stutters, one video clearly demonstrates that road and airport traffic are a culprit. This was demonstrated as being true. Turn road vehicles, ships, airport ground vehicles and animated ground handlers off and see if this makes a difference.
I am sure you have tried to run the simulator with the Community Folder empty?
IS SYSTEM RESTORE MONITORING THE DRIVE ONTO WHICH MSFS IS INSTALLED?
Fortunately I do not have a persistent stuttering problem.
BRGDS

Guys try this works for me no more stutters at all.
I have been trouble shooting why I get major stutters in the sim for the last week especially near airports , makes the game unplayable. I have tried every trick in the book from the web but to no avail. If I turned off photogrammetry that solved it but that’s not really good. So, I deleted my rolling cache and recreated it but that did not help either. Then I simply turned off my rolling cache altogether and left it off. WOW no more stutters and everything back to Ultra—hope this may help others
Worked for me, Thanks!. Same here about a week before your post was flying into an airport and Bam instant massive stutters, tried everything as usual. Deleted the rolling cache, left it off and solved. Set back to Ultra and running smooth!
Thanks again!
Hey Guys,
i also had stutters but not all in this discusion have the same type. I had every 1-10 minutes a stutter for about 5-30 seconds. Even if I am in the main menu i had these stutters. I simply opened my task manager and noticed everytime I have these stutters the 3D Graph of my GPU drops down and up for a short period. I tried many things but for me helped resetting (reconnecting power cabel out and in again) my browser stoping my printer and deleting my printer software off my pc. I searched in the internet and apparently the printer or software trys comunicating with something online but gets blocked which causes the issue. I also put my DirectX-Version back from 12 beta to 11. I hope this works for some people
Turn off - Rolling Cache
That was my solution.
With Rolling Cache on, the gpu load jumps up and down and significant stutter / high frametimes, especially in high detailes areas.
Without Rolling Cache, immediately “butter smooth” because of high permanent load and nice frametimes.
This Rolling Cache function should be disabled and not standard set as on.
I tried turning off rolling cache… it’s true, made a massive difference. Stutters were not eliminated entirely, but I’d guess reduced by 90% or more. Quite a different experience. Seems like a bug in their implementation, the cache is intended to reduce network activity and smooth resource management.
go to traffic options and turn it all off. thats the fps hog.
trial and error turn on one by one and see when stutter returns if you need these options
Going from 3200Mhz 16Gb memory to 3600Mhz 32Gb memory seemed to to a huge (!!!) difference for me on my system (5600X / RTX 3060 Ti). Gaming in 2560x1440. Suddenly Ai and Multiplayer etc did not make a huge difference to turn on or off.
Suddenly had major stuttering and crashing to desktop. Cleared the rolling cache (found in the “data” settings) and it solved my problem.
I did a flight this morning from HLLB to HECA, a distance of nearly 600nm in the TBM, and by the time I got to HECA my pc started stuttering, textures and buildings weren’t loading correctly then just before turn to final, boom CTD. I’ve never had the stuttering before a CTD before. It’s normally just been a pause of the sim, then a sudden crash, this was different.
Unfortunately I didn’t have time to check what exactly was happening with the pc at the time of the crash, so I can’t say what was going on.
All I see in event viewer is the generic memory access violation error.
This is in DX12 AAU2 beta.
Worst thing is that up until the stuttering started I was having the smoothest flight I’ve ever had in the sim to date. Go figure.
Going to give this a shot, why not
Keep in mind there is now a new “feature” of MSFS that will bundle up debug info to send to MS/Asobo. Not sure how relevant it is when the sim crashes and you have to restart it (loss of debug info?).
I think the feature is in the Experimental section in settings.
Hi all,
Apologies for hijacking this thread.
Anytime I try to create my own post or submit a bug form I get “An error occurred: You are not permitted to view the requested resource.”
But as the thread’s title is “Stutter stutter and more stutter” I’m clearly in the right place!
Got a new build PC a month with the following spec.
7800X3D
ASUS® ROG STRIX X670E-A
64GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 32GB)
RTX 4090
1TB SAMSUNG 990 PRO
2TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 530 GEN 4
CORSAIR 1200W HX SERIES
Ultrawide aw3423dw
1GB Wired
I seem to get really bad stuttering, especially on takeoff roll when using default A320.
Always some small stutters once I start moving and around 6 obvious stutters around the same point of any runway (doesn’t matter if its LAX or a tiny airport like Aldergrove) as seen in the following capture
From what I’ve read the 7800X3D is supposed to be a great chip for MSFS, but as you can see from the capture I keep getting stuttering. Feels like I have tried everything I can think of yet I can never get these stutters to go away or even find a way to reduce them.
I have tried the following and ran captures after each change, everything makes little to no difference.
Game Mode off/on
Latest Chipset drivers
Latest NVidia Drivers.
Apps like iCUE, GEForce Experience uinstalled.
HAGS on/off
DX11/DX12
FG on/off
TLOD down to 150 (Should I have to be turning graphics settings down on a PC of this spec??!)
VSYNC/GSYNC on/off
Setting MSFS to half of monitor refresh rate.
Windows & NVidia Power Management - Set to high performance
PBO
Disable Virtualization
Disable Memory Integrity
Rolling Cache on/off
Traffic on/off
TAA/DLSS3 Quality, balance, auto etc etc
FlightSim.exe given high priority task manager
AMD Adhrenalin removed
Clean installation of Windows 11
Plus some other settings I’ve forgotten.
Had this machine about a month and have spent more time analyzing stutters, making changes and running captures than enjoying the game.
Ran cinbench expecting a poor score and surprisingly got 18000 on stock.
Really at a loss of what to do now. It seems very odd how the runway stutters at the same point each time, regardless of what airport I’m at, almost feels like its an issue on the game side, but if that was the case then everyone would be mentioning it…
Starting to feel that this CPU simply isn’t up to running MSFS well but I haven’t come across anyone who has the same issue with a 7800X3D. Getting to the stage where I’m considering a RMA to replace the CPU and mobo with a 13900k.
Can any 7800X3D owners confirm that they don’t get any stuttering during takeoff roll as seen in my capture?
Any help or advice would be very welcome
Cheers in advance all.
I doubt it has anything to do with the CPU choice; most likely the simulator is loading up new scenery at that specific point, and the sim is just really bad at that.
I’ve found since switching to AMD Radeon 7900XTX with plenty of VRAM that scenery-loading stutters seem less severe in DX12 mode than DX11 mode, and with Resizable BAR enabled in the system BIOS than not. DX12 theoretically allows more simultaneous use of graphics structures than DX11 does, so maybe that helps? Not sure. Resizable Bar allows the entire VRAM to be mapped into address space at once, which again might allow for loading data while other things are going on, so maybe that helps? Dunno.
Anyway, don’t ever expect to be 100% stutter-free. It simply won’t happen; if you’re chasing a 100% stutter-free experience you’re going to have a bad time.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I have wondered whether my expectations were too high on numerous occasions. But it does seem very odd how the stuttering on the runway is really bad at the exact same part every time, regardless of being airborne or not.
Tested DX11 and it felt unplayable so little option for me but to use DX12. Resizeable Bar is also enabled.
Unfortunately I don’t have much to compare my performance against currently as the 7800X3D is still relatively new but from what I’ve read it should at least be stutter free at the smaller non-system intensive airports.
What would be amazing is if someone with a similar rig could post a takeoff capture from Aldergrove (EGAA) so I can hopefully compare apples with apples.
Thanks!
If you adjust the graphics settings (especially the terrain level of detail and perhaps the object level of detail) you may find that the points where it stutters are different, or less severe. But be aware you will never get rid of all stutters.
Good luck!
