This is the primary reason I decided to go with the Xbox X instead of a PC. I know what I’m giving up, but I’m a programmer and an obsessive tinkerer. When I did game on PC, I found myself easily spending 2-3x more time messing with settings than I did actually playing the games. I knew I would do the same thing with MSFS.
And the main reason I waited 2+ years to buy a gaming PC! I have posted this elsewhere but it bears repeating, MSFS is very good on a Series X. I had to spend a lot of money to top that Series X experience and it comes with a lot of hassle as well. The Series X is at least an 80% solution for most kinds of flying, at least in 2020. 24 is still WIP for the Box?
I mostly fly the steam gauge 172 around my RL location in central OK (very flat, not much to render), as this is the plane my flight school uses. So my performance on 2024 is pretty good on the Xbox and I haven’t fired up 2020 in months.
The only thing I miss is the PMDG 737. That was the only airliner I flew in 2020, and it just doesn’t work yet for me in 2024. I can hot start it, but it’s still a buggy mess. The 737 Max is a joke and I won’t fly it.
I see the PMDG 777 is out now for 2024, so I may have to check that out.
Cool. I avoided the Max altogether until SU1, and have flown it a lot in SU2. Maybe give it another try? It has come a long way, at least for PC. Today is GA Sunday so on the runway in the Baron for some cross country flying. Cheers!
I miss the PMDG 737 in 2024 as well. I hope it will eventually be updated but it seems there is quite a lot of work identified by PMDG to be done ahead of it. I haven’t tried the default 737 for awhile but will give it another try soon.SU2 is coming along nicely, it seems. I do hope a few more things get some attention before it is released, though.
When were VRAM issues acknowledged???
Just waiting for the final SU2 relase. Sim now runs stable on my system. With a few necessary tweaks like deactivating Re-Bar and 2K Fenix liveries to keep VRAM at bay (12GB VRAM available). I am now able to do stutter free landings at EDDF (Aerosoft). Yes, there are a lot of compromises and tweaks to be made for a piece of software, which is supposed to work out of the box, given the hardware requirements are met (9800X3D, 64GBDDR5-6000). I first wanted a stable sim so I can just fly and enjoy this hobby. My MSFS2020 was force deleted. At some point couldn’t start it anymore. The new sim can absolutely look great. The newly released PMDG T7-200ER, Avro RJ, Horizon 787-9 work great in MSFS2024. Fenix too, but is still experimental and is being optimzed for the new sim. More are coming in the next few weeks. Got the A350, just waiting for my 737s (iFly and PMDG) to be ported to MSFS2024. I barely fly the default aircraft, unless for testing purposes. I don’t use career mode. Had my share of frustrations with the sim, now I just try to be positive. The new sim is getting better performance wise.
iFly should be right around the corner to scratch that itch. They just posted a bunch of screenshots on their Discord, so there should be hope.
Yeah the chart is super vague. It doesn’t show resolution standards, or what preset to use with what spec, or even what FPS value they are targeting.
Like for the ideal spec for instance, is that on high preset, ultra preset? Is that for 30 fps? 60 fps?
It doesn’t give enough information to make accurate assumptions.
That’s true, I get the impression from what they posted that they’re waiting for SU2 to actually release before they release anything. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer before SU2 is out of beta.
Just that it’s acknowledged as a bug here. thought i have read something about targeting su3.

Had my longest airliner flight in FS’24 today, and my longest flight in the sim overall in a couple months: KLAX to KJFK, 5 hours and 7 minutes flight time - substantial tailwinds much of the route helped speed things up. Solid performance from load in to landing and unloading with GSX. And my best 777 landing ever as the icing on the cake, especially in light of the quartering headwinds.
The real only issue I had with the flight was a glitch with gate B2 at IniBuilds’ new 2024 JFK, where the jetway refused to operate, which has nothing to do with the sim itself.
Extra, Extra! I think the Logbook bug may be fixed. If you are one of the beta pilots who have been following this one, please take a look and confirm in the bug thread if your Logbook is correct from the 1st, or when you started flying in 0.18. Thanks!
Another test flight completed, clear weather but still pretty, sometimes it just works.
extended route with the A330 over Capetown
May have had my best performing flight in MSFS 2024 so far, granted it wasn’t in an airliner.
Used the FlightFX P180 going from CYVR to the new MK Studios KSEA. Got up to cruise at FL150 and managed to get 144fps and maxed out my monitor with frame gen on. I couldn’t ever do that even in MSFS 2020. My specs are a 7900x processor with a 4070ti GPU, 64GB of RAM.
This is mostly on the high preset, except I did change texture resolution to low to avoid any potential VRAM issues.
What happened to the graphics? Overexposed ground, low resolution textures, ugly and different coloured buildings that clash with the landscape. I don’t remember it looking this bad before. 4k ultra preset btw.
SU2 is running very well here. My favourite feature is that when I press return to the original view with a custom camera, which I bind the F key to in 2020, it does not return to the initial view angle I had when I hopped in the plane. Instead, it goes back to the custom camera angle first. This is an excellent change for the Cessna Citation Longitude because that plane needs a custom angle to see all the display correctly and align my viewpoint with the red and white balls in the cockpit!
I’ve not had any dropped flights yet. I’ve been taking screenshots of the logbook just before shutdown of each session, and a backup and check in the Flightlog Analyzer program as well. So far so good. Last session I had last night was with dev. mode on working with SPAD, so I’ll check next session to see if there are any missing flights.
Really good job on the new runway night lights! Finally, not that harsh, unrealistic bright that stands out in a way no runway ever does, but one that nicely fits in the surroundings, it is easy to spot, but not from a million miles away! This is a milestone, the unrealistic runway night lighting was an immersion killer - finally, it’s addressed!
And i tried a flight tonight (at night) key west to havana in the 404. I thought they fixed the over bright gps units. I gave up trying to use it. I couldnt even read it
