SU2 Beta General Feedback

Sorry for the late reply regarding which flight I do that makes PG such a big difference. StevieStewie answered the question you asked, and I think the same as he does. I love discovered new places and going sightseeing. Currently, I fly a lot with Powrachute Sky Rascal over, among other places, Rio de Janeiro. PG is so good there that you can fly very low without “melted buildings”. :slightly_smiling_face:

No, a little different maybe but still glitches with extra monitors, usually on one side or the other but never both. Center always ok.
Principal monitor is 3440x1440, others are 2560, lateral rotation offset 84/-84 in-game.

I believe that’s what they are doing with this beta and is they reason they partially opened up career mode. Hope we see many career fixes by the time SU2 goes final.

Career mode isn’t fully opened up there are no heavy cargo, no super heavy airliner certification (still locked). We are testing what we have in public build already.
When are we going to see the B787 and the various airbuses in career mode?

Dynamic setting seems to be working in vr, is there a way to adjust these settings or is it just a fixed value?

I also like to see the option to use freeware and payware aircraft like FBW A380, iniBuilds A350, etc in Career mode some day. For now, they just need to fix what they currently have.

On PC, in Free Flight, I load a flight, Select to start a flight and end up in a perpetual loading screen, looking at the map. Before this, I would get hung up sometimes, but if I escaped and restarted the flight, it would load quickly. Now it just hangs again. I am going to leave the Beta, fly one short GA flight and try the Beta again. As a VR flyer, I am looking forward to seeing and commenting on the Beta.
Edit: I exited the Beta, had the same problem now in SU1. I restarted the SU2 Beta and my free flight loaded normally. No crashes in about a 40 minute VR flight in the Steam Gage Skyhawk.
The EFB in the window is now usable, reacting to the mouse. If I click the EFB button in the menu two EFB’s appear, one in a movable window, and one outside the plane that I cannot interact with. Otherwise pretty good, good performance and FPS in VR.

Use the drop-down “menu”

New PC pilot coming from 1,000+ flight hours on Series X, I have to say that I’m loving Dynamic Settings in 24! I’m still getting 58-60 FPS most of the time (60Hz HDTV) and when the scene gets demanding, the FPS can float down as needed. So far I have not seen it hit the 30 FPS floor, but I don’t fly to FPS anyway. This is probably not going to be a popular POV, but I think they are really onto something here with Dynamic Settings. Thoughts?

I am still having issues with the latest SU2 build. The loading times are FOREVER! Sometimes it goes through, most times it doesnt and I give up. Ive tried to get a few flights going that I could get past the loading screen, however when I try to start VR, i get a CTD:

Don’t know what else to do here. I have not been able to complete a single flight since SU was released. I have been giving it time and been trying to figure it out. May need to go back to SU1 soon so I can actually use the sim.

yup - I also saw this. Also got warnings that my settings were too high; but still pretty low. I ran anyway and did not encounter issues due to the settings.

What plane(s) did you use? I actually just had that happen to me with the Got Friends MXA; it’s not an airliner and I flew about 15km, seems like it’s an issue

Update: if I try to click on the menu EFB using the XBox controller, nothing works. If you try with a mouse, it works. However, I still can’t try the beta because once you click to punch in the plane weight in the inibuilds A320 EFB (in the takeoff tab), doing so freezes the screen.

For me, SU1 is so much smoother and better on performance than SU2. 9800x3d, 5080, 64gb ddr5

General comments - much improved from retail and from the first beta 2 version.

The good: Sim rate works; skip to descent is better - usable at least if not perfect. Performance is stable for time spent (I am no longer seeing degradation after 20 min or so).

Observations

  1. (not sure if this was intended or not): the assists are now following settings - no more blue rectangles. I have a button mapped to turn assists on/off and that now only turns on/off taxi-ribbon (which I have enabled as an assist).
  2. sim rate now seems to work correctly - i.e., after changing return to normal seems correct. No way to easily confirm though.
  3. I think the filters on missions should persist at least while looking - if you select a mission while filtered and then abandon it the filters clear. Would be nice (probably already a wishlist item to sort as well as filter - i.e., by pay).

Issues (I don’t have the patience to open bug reports for this at the moment)

  1. Did a 737 flight in career mode from reno to mci. Reno has no terminal, gates, pushback tugs, stairs or anything. On a positive note (maybe) was taken directly to taxi after entering the aircraft w/o skipping. Taxied without skip to takeoff but was unable to find the proper place to stop in the hold short box. Finally just skipped to takeoff. Looks like the nose wheel must be at the end of the hold short box - nose was way over. This is not how things should be. Takeoff role however caused gear and tire malfunction at about 100kts. no clue why. Autopilot had alot of trouble maintaining rate of climb even without sim rate increased - lots of porpoising on the way up. Skip to descent took me to a the approach with everything set reasonably (except landing lights and MCD). MCD was somewhere back at the beginning so NAV mode wanted to turn me around. turned off autopilot and autothrottle and landed. On landing stopped and was immediately told to shut down (unable to move it seems due to the gear and tire failure on takeoff). Maybe the trucks should have rolled? Reputation took a hit.
  2. Went to increase reputation back with a quick firefighting initial attack. on takeoff got an overtorque (and was dinged).
  3. Tried again while paying attention to engine parameters during takeoff as best I could in VR with the lower quality. I did not leave the green (kept throttle, prop RPM etc., all in green - didn’t use 100% throttle for take off. Got overtorque again at the same place - just after gear up.

those with CTD’s
you have deleted the rolling cache file after upgrading to SU2 beta right?

I have no any issues with stability, wasn’t facing any CTD’s yet. It could be that old, no longer compatible components are being loaded from rolling cache, which may cause instabilities. Just a guess, but I am always clearing the rolling cache file whenever there is an update and it runs stable here.

Do you have Foveated Rendering turned on?

Same and I will finally buy it then. No rush. 2020 still has bugs so I get it.

C’mon man,
This sim wasn’t designed for 128megs of ram!

Of course it was, otherwise Asobo would never live it down. If they’re officially partnered with Xbox then they are required to ensure it will work on Xbox.

I have a feeling it’s just Asobo’s characteristic lack of competence showing its ugly face again… We all know FS2024 has major VRAM issues, which they apparently are working on in SU2, and this is an early result.

Will FS2024 in 3 years be what FS2020 is now? Possibly, but I am astounded that they haven’t learned a thing from that experience. The process should be faster this time around.
