SU2 Beta General Feedback

How is the LOD in this beta? I left the beta because it was so terrible on Xbox series s. It draw the landscape just in front of the nose of the helicopter. In the none beta it runs pretty well now.

Yeah well on the ground things seem to look better, I haven’t tested in a smaller plane like the C172 but with the A320N I use it’s okay (better than SU1) when taxiing around, as far as I seen not so many octagonal wheels on ground vehicles etc. but the 1 or 2 times I was able to get in the air there was still a slight circle of detail around the plane but again not sure if this is a streaming/server issue or that’s just how it is, but it stutters less (for me anyway), visually it’s better, but the ATC makes it hard to get in the air lol

@WaggazM Congratulations on discovering how start a new paragraph,
Your posts could now be a lot easier to read with full stops between sentences. :joy:
Regards, Richard

I’ve reported this as an issue hopefully it gets seen its anytime the Xbox keyboard comes up I get full freeze no peripherals will work so restart it is

Also was having a terrible time most the day with LOD and photogrammetry not loading in fast enough or clear even at 5k feet

Then tonight tried again went some where I’ve never been had a fun explore flight but to my surprise flying at nearly 15k ft I was seeing clear

Took it lower and was looking round realised what one of my issues with the Sim is currently but also why I haven’t turned it off

Never been here could tell that was an American school the green blobs are trees or bushes that haven’t been taken out and replaced or even just flattened have noticed with some roads around hills in New Zealand as well that they are all banking at like 60 degree angles when they are meant to be a flat road but you only notice that at 1000ft or below

Then flew to an airport remembering a flashing light issue I had been having changed time twice and both times no flashes and nice lighting the plane with no engines at 500m was a shame tho

Anyone on PC able to comment on the bad ground textures? Did they fix them in 1.4.10?

Does less trees result in a performance improvement in your case? Will take a look at that Digimon mod

I haven’t tried this in 2024, but in 2020 I had a view of London that encompassed a large area of it. I then created one of those exclusion polygons to remove all the autogen trees, leaving just the PG ones, and actually noticed very little graphical change. I’m sure I uploaded the two images to the forums somewhere. I noticed very little change in the FPS as well. You might notice a difference when closer in, though, but really removing the PG ones would be the better option there, and leave the autogen ones behind. If only that were so simple!

Can confirm please about photogrammetry trees being removed or replacec

This isnt even in the same country I live in

That’s a good example of bad PG. Even the buildings don’t look that great.

Xbox so I’m not expecting great buildings just would like the green blobs gone and roads flattened

Other side of the road could tell it was a school coz of the pg tho area I know nothing about

The green blobs will be bushes of some kind. The building itself probably looks okay from 1000ft being overflown. Even the best won’t look as good as hand crafted buildings at that range.

Yes I have it too. Select any [Object] and CTD. Unable to configure?

Edit: this is showing up as a reply to Hobanagerik. That wasn’t, I think, my doing.

First impressions of 1.4.10.0:

As in 1.4.9.0, the mouse is likely (but not certain) to be invisible when you start a flight in VR. However the mouse pointer is present (as it was before), and the FLY NOW button turns white when the pointer is over it, so if you have the patience to hunt for the clickspot you can eventually click on the button and start the flight.

In 1.4.9.0 I could only occasionally start a second flight in a session - the sim would much more often than not hang when I tried a second flight till I lost patience and shut it down. In two trials in 1.4.10.0, I was able to start three flights in a row.

However, two attempts to restart a flight in 1.4.10.0 resulted in a hung sim, as it did in 1.4.9.0.

Third-party toolbar apps, which would not start for me in 1.4.9.0, now will start and seem usable in 1.4.10.0. I tried Sky4Sim, JayDee’s checklist app and Got Friends Weight and Balance app (I didn’t actually test the last for function, but it appeared as it should). Tested them in flatscreen and VR.

In 1.4.10.0, the in-sim EFB appears as one window in the cockpit in both flatscreen and VR. It sems to work as it should in flatscreen.

In VR, however, the window that appears is large and the size and orientation options in settings make only an almost imperceptible difference to that. Instead increasing the size mostly alters the size of the text and switching from Horizontal to Vertical orientation mostly compresses the image in the vertical axis.

In both 1.4.9.0 and 1.4.10.0 I noticed some odd light flashing in the cockpit, and in 1.4.10 I noticed some texture fighting when spawning in to an airport in VR.

That’s the morning’s testing. If I’m lucky I might actually get a flight in later today.

I’m on PC. There was nothing to fix regarding ground textures IMO, they were never bad in 1.4.9.0 and it’s the same in 1.4.10.0.

Of the complaints I read it was from XBox users I believe.

The person I replied to is a PC (Steam) user, and he was complaining about bad ground textures in 1.4.9.0.
