SU5, and?

Here i have Ryzen 5 5600X (upgraded from 2600X 2 days ago) and RTX 3070. I got 50% more for FPS from SU5 comparing 2600X only. After i have installed the 5600X and i can go up in the settings.
But i noticed that the CGU is quite always at 100%, since the SU5 with the 2600X and same with the 5600X.
I also noticed strong “pause” from time to time, everything stops, like with active pause in the game, no crash, but after maybe about 45sec or 1 min with the 2600X everything resume normally, and with the 5600X these pauses are shorter but they are still there.
Between 2600X and 5600X i had a strong reduced launch time, but after its more difficult to say where i have improvements, but i changed all settings upside, so… not easy to compare…
But definitely CGU is running at 100% quite all the time

I had a great time with SU5 last night.

One thing I did do was to turn off the customised render scale in OpenXR Dev Tools. This certainly seemed to help the aliasing on the menus considerably. (I was running it at 55-60 previously)

I was also able to increase in-game render scale to 85 (from 70) and a couple of other settings and still managed to get a good, smooth experience. I suspect my FPS was hovering between 22.5 and 30, so OpenXR motion smoothing was working hard, but I don’t mind motion smoothing/repro anyway (there’s no way I’m hitting 90FPS on my system in VR)

It was a really enjoyable experience and the cockpit legibility with render scale at 85 and OpenXR on Auto was definitely better than before. I was even able to fly the 320 and play with the flight computer, which I never normally even try.

(Also managed to land it fully manually with a very sweet touchdown, if I do say so myself  )

As I said in another post - I really think this has the beginnings of a good update, even though a good few are struggling with it.

(PS. Just for ref, i9-9900K, 1080Ti, Reverb G2)

I’m assuming OXR automatically sets a render scale significantly higher than your custom 55…60. You could check the current rendering resolution by using the developer mode overlay. 100/100 on the G2 is usually around 3160x3096.

Yes, agreed. IIRC, it was set based on VRAM, so my 11GB on the 1080Ti (I think) sets it to 80.
WHen I next get in-sim, I’ll pull up the overlay and check the “actual” resolution… thanks.

Thanks for the link. Voted.

I agree, the trees are taller, even with Bijan mod

I’ve seen/noticed only improvements. ymmv

For those who are seeing decreased texture quality, make sure you go look at your settings for data → cache… this update changed the location from the custom rolling / manual caches I created. Just go set the rolling / manual cache locations to the folders where your custom caches are, and it’ll figure it out (no need for re-downloading stuff).

Also, when you go to click on “manual cache” and it’s greyed out, you have to make sure online is enabled, save, EXIT SETTINGS, then come back in and the button will be available because Asobo.

Seems like a moderate improvement to me… not a revelation, but noticeable (and lots of times when other people say that on here, I don’t find it to be). Enough that I’ll be going back through the settings and doing a more thorough tweaking.

Of course now the trim wheel on the 172 is inop with my controller axis. Bonanza works fine. I’m sure they’ll fix it but holy hell. It really is amazing how well this game looks and performs for something that feels so stapled together at the seams.

Thanks CMCP919.

My roling cache has been turned off after the update. Good find, but more over, thanks for sharing!!

I too noticed Trim Wheel on the 172 Steam not working since the update. Using my Honecomb Alpha, goes straight to Full Trim or Full Off. This is still true for the latest hotfix #2.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Go to the in game marketplace, and make sure all your content is updated. There is an update for the Steam gauge 172 and the other planes in the expansion pack. I restarted my computer, restarting the game didn’t change anything but after that my wheel trim axis worked fine.

The other thing I noticed post SU5 update is that for planes with a button-style trim (instead of a wheel), the joystick wheel axis no longer works… use hat switch buttons in those planes and don’t touch the joystick wheel control. In VR, if you left mouse click on the middle of the trim adjust switch, you can see the current trim setting. Hold the left mouse button on the center of the switch (so you’re not clicking trim up or down with the mouse) and trim up / down with the hat switch and you’ll see what I mean.

Thank you so much. That solved it! Had to go searching for this update in the Content Manger as it didn’t show up on default screen. And there were a bunch of updates for each of the world updates, hopefully now the scenery will look better.
