SWS Kodiak 100 Previews

Mice bird :sunglasses:
I hope it comes with a float version too…

Their FB page has a short video now.

are they going to put this on the ingame market

Have you seen many issues with it? SWS talks about it on one of their recent FB posts, because someone asked. Sounds like it works, but it’s not fully compatible yet and some things will look weird, like not having enough room to show all the engine info.

There will be a float version, but you’ll going to have to pay extra for that.

To clarify the NXi situation:
Currently, all aircraft that work with NXi have the same type of Engine Display: 3 round gauges and a few lines of info underneath. These are easy to fit and suitable for most planes. No-one has written a custom display for the NXi that I know of, except yours truly.

The Kodiak, on the other hand, has 4 round gauges and a bunch of info under them, depending on the menu page.

The NXi does not yet support scaling and spacing of that info, resulting in huge gauges that can’t fit inside the screen. Also, the Kodiak comes with a a Fuel page instead of Lean. While we can call ours “Lean” it will not be accurate.

In short, it is not that we don’t want support the NXi. It is great but not yet at the level of maturity that the old WT G1000 was before Sim Update 5.

For reference, with the SU4 version of WT G1000 we had everything on screen, even though the enginr gauges were a bit smaller to be able to fit.

Thanks for the update. Im a bit confused tho… can we use the legacy WTG1000 mod with this one then? Or just the default?

The default G1000 will work
The legacy G1000 will work and have all pages, but will bleed off the screen because its code was changed after SU5
The NXi will appear but how well it will work will depend on what it supports for the ED. Not everything we need is supported yet, but that might change in the future.

In all cases, I have code ready to work with the default, WT legacy and soon with the NXi, so it should be compatible with all three, to the best degree allowed by the MS/WT units.

So it will be available some time after SU6? When does the SU6 drop?

In a few weeks only the NXi will matter. Matt said they will reach default level very soon and surpass it, which makes NXi the default option and the rest will be a history.

There are already a number of updated airports that Missionary Bush Pilot flies to.

Where would you consider it functionality wise when compared to something like the JF Arrows?

Later this month.

What is the first thing that a newcomer sees when he opens MSFS? The default G1000. What will they say if an aircraft doesn’t work well with it? That it’s bad. Therefore, that is our first concern: getting our plane to work with the default G1000, with mods being second. That is just proper development mindset.

We want to support the NXi and already work on it, but it isn’t up to snuff yet and default level won’t cut it. Look at the real Kodiak’s EFIS layout and compare it to the NXi mod and write down the differences. Also, it is a mod, which makes it risky to support as your basic feature. That said, we do talk to WT about it and hope that they can do a few of the requested things because it will not benefit just the Kodiak, but all aircraft that use these features (flap & trim indications).

Feature-wise, we are looking to get midway between default and study-level aircraft. We want the plane to have sufficient depth to satisfy the “button pushers” but don’t want to alienate the newcomers. So we are trying to strike a balance between the two that suits everyone.

That said, one of the most important pieces, the engine, is shaping up well and we are now tuning it for performance.

At some point after SU6, the NXi is destined to become the default G1000 once the default has been surpassed feature wise.

Correct. To characterize NXi as a Mod is not a good plan. Talk to Matt Nischan about it and call it a Mod. Let me know what he says.

NXi will replace the stock G1000 in the very near future. I understand the engine data page dilemma, but everyone who’s flown the NXi doesn’t want to go back. The ability to fly all 23 ARINC leg types is non-trivial.
