Taking a remote passenger along for a ride in FS 2020

I’ve been wondering if it’s possible (or being worked on) to take a passenger along for a flight who is not on the same machine or even in the same house?

For instance…I start FS 2020 on my machine (as the PIC) and it provides data to another machine (via network or internet) who is running (my preference) a scaled down, non-controllable free “just for passenger rides” version of FS 2020 that does nothing but let the person sit there and “go along for the ride.”

VR would be ideal.

The way I do this now is by starting a Youtube stream. But I can’t do VR like that.

It’s not available natively.

Here’s a Wishlist topic for native support for that:

You could certainly stream using Twitch, YouTube, or Discord. And there is a third-party shared cockpit tool that could be used, as well.

Thank you. I have the link you provided so this thread could be removed as far as I’m concerned.

I forgot the name of it before: YourControls. I’ve never used it, but I assume that if another pilot could use it, another passenger could use it. However, they would need MSFS, of course.

Happy to close the thread, but maybe someone else might have another suggestion. The thread will also close eventually without my intervention.

So the client side would need…

A copy of MSFS2020
An internet connection
The aircraft they you are going to fly (in the case of wanting to go for a spin in a 3rd party aircraft like the MB339 for example)
Probably some advanced multi player code that will feed aircraft state etc to the client PC across internet. (But if they are working on “shared cockpit” this might actually be on the way?)

That’s quite a lot of stuff just to sit and look out the window.

I did this with a friend not too long ago. We happened to be in a video chat at the time when the topic of my flight sim obsession came up. To demonstrate MSFS I just started up a flight and used the Share Screen option. We were using Facebook Messenger at the time but just about all of the video chat programs have a screen share option.

I use it sometimes here. A passenger is sitting next to me with the VR headset and I can fly on the other PC in 2D. So we can do VFR flights together.

This gives the passenger a fully immersive experience while not be bothered with flying.

The 3rd party software “your controls” or? Does it work nicely?

Your controls, yes. But haven’t used it in the last few months.

It worked pretty good. Also for the a330nx, but when having people visiting I normally used the 172 analog.
