Taog's Hangar Bell UH-1H & Bell 205 (Released)

I love it so much!

I gotta do some extensive flying tomorrow, but tonight I have an appointment on an oil rig. I heard the Deep is waking
 still
but waking. Gotta see what’s that all about.

Bought it today, didn’t read anything, went into the cockpit with running engine and flew!
■■■■, flys pretty good, feels abit like the H130 just without the problems it has.

Flew in 5 different locations, but i flew the non-military heli. Rendering Video right now, will post it tomorrow. :+1:

On the last flight i accidently joined cold & dark, i only started the engine without anything else and flew. just before i wanted to end the flight the engine had a malfuction and i saved myself the last second on a oil plattform

Absolutely awesome, but two observations that I just emailed Taog about:

  1. No transponder unless you select the modern/glass avionics. I would expect something at least on the center console without having to resort to glass.

  2. Does anyone use the PMS50 GTN750 on a pop-out panel (or at least in toolbar view) such as with the RealSimGear hardware? For some reason ONLY with the Huey, the basic database map overlay on the main “map” view background does not work in any capacity. All other visualizations and features on the GPS are fine, except for Topo or Terrain settings, so I can’t see any sort of “map” on the main screen, just black. It’ s a bit like using a GNS530 but even without the waterways.

Leave it to Taog to make me break out the helicopter setup after a long hiatus, and let me tell you he has made it well worth it. He already had set the bar incredibly high with the Alouette and the Lama, but he has absolutely knocked it out of the park with the Huey. This is the best helicopter I’ve flown for the sim hands down. Please do yourselves a favor and give it a shot!

Well that’s annoying FS.to had it with 10% off “for the first day” note not “on” (their text not mine) and I couldn’t get it last night as I didn’t have access, but now, just 16hrs post launch and the now ‘launch day’ discount is gone. I guess it should have been labelled as first 10hr discount. :rage:

Overall, I enjoy this addon. I look forward to seeing what comments/reviews experienced UH-1 pilots have to say about it.

It is very different from Flyinside and CowanSim dynamics. A couple of things I wonder about:

  • Significantly more difficult to hold an altitude while hover taxiing (compared to other helicopter addons), although it is fairly easy to control the attitude and maintain a forward orientation.
  • Bleeds energy extremely fast. At 80 kts, when initiating a quick turn, you can stop to a near hover and land controllably - faster than both 500’s in the game.
  • As a result of the quick energy bleed, the addon turns and negotiates obstcles almost as good as the 500 addons. It seems you have to push the cyclic somewhat aggressively to maintain speed in tighter turns (compared to and relative to other helicopter addons). If you try to enter a hammerhead, you will lose most of your forward inertia before you gain any altitude and the nose goes past 45 degrees. So, it makes just doing a 180 degree direction reversal effortless without going verticle. [“Aerobatics are prohibited”]

Other than that, I am truly thankful to now have a high quality UH-1 to cruise around the MSFS world in.

I bought this last night and flew it for a few hours. I have hundreds of hours in the DCS Huey, which I think is the best modeled helicopter in any sim. I’ve found the MSFS choppers to feel kind of like a drone - hard to explain - like they’re on rails and don’t feel like they have weight. This is BY FAR the the best helicopter in MSFS and it compares to the Huey in DCS pretty well. Without having flown a Huey IRL it’s difficult to say which is more accurate, but the fact that they’re fairly close (this one feels like it slides around a bit more) speaks volumes about their work.

I’d highly recommend buying this if you’re a fan of the Huey.

Finally finished the video.
5 Locations, i LOVE the sound!!! Some fine tuning and it will be the best chopper by far!

Agreed - have all the helos almost and this one already in the top 3. Blackbird has its work cut out for their version - Taog’s is gonna be hard to beat but Blackbird’s new Texan T-6A definitely shows they have the talent!

Crabbing like that in the video is a pilot induced manoeuvre to either counteract wind or to aid in visual awareness i often fly “crabbed” when manoeuvring as it takes the nose out of my forward vision and i can see the ground clearer (depending on model)

I absolutely agree. Now, I have precisely zero time in a real Huey so can only compare to DCS, but after hundreds of hours in that one, this felt like home. It is far and away the best heli we have and I can’t recommend it enough.

As you know the Huey is out, :helicopter:
Looking forward to many more flights in her

I hate to be the one, but there is one thing I don’t like about the civilian variants with the brighter liveries: the weathering is overdone, too big and also pretty blurry, which just doesn’t look right. It’s probably the same on the military ones, but it isn’t as obvious because the liveries are usually dark too.

Did you try the new cw H130?

for me this new Cowan feels very much like the flyinside 206 or this Huey, the Huey has better optimizations.

Same here, getting black GTN with no map topo details. Other markers, airports etc display fine. Not sure what is going on. At least I have wind direction showing!

Spent the afternoon flying this thing. Taog’s Huey is fantastic! Looks great, sounds great, flies great. I’m going to be spending many more hours flying it around.

If you’re familiar with the Huey from DCS, you’ll be right at home. To me, the startup, feel of the controls, loss of translational lift, performing autorotations are all very similar.

Now we can finally enjoy flying the iconic Huey anywhere in the world!

Thanks! Was looking for this.

Thinking to buy this, my favourite helicopter,

In the sim I’ve only flown the msfs Bell 407
how does the flight model compare to the msfs Bell 407

Thank you

The flight model is similar (you won’t be surprised by dramatic differences); however, there are a few differences in the feel. If you can fly the Asobo 407 well (on PC), you shouldn’t have difficulty adjusting to the Taog UH-1H.

NOTE: If you fly “realistically” (controlled pickups and hover taxi to takeoff), you will need good tail rotor “rudder” control. If you normally just lift off and just fly around, it will be very similar to the 407 (while in a cruising profile).

DOUBLE NOTE: The audio of this addon provides ULTIMATE satisfaction! It delivers
(Specifically for those who have been waiting for a good UH-1 in MSFS for 4 years now. It does so, even more than the CH-47. It is nothing like ANY other addon in MSFS. If you own a ButtKicker, this addon re-defines the “justification” for that purchase.

IMO

I bought it as soon as it was released. If the camera shakes that badly I’m not sure I’ll enjoy it.

I’ve only ridden in a helicopter once, and yeah, it shook the cockpit, but I think that might give me motion sickness.
