[Taog's Hangar] OH6A Cayuse - Hughes 500C

Hi all,

I am creating this topic because that fantastic aircraft deserves one and strangely it seems to have passed a bit under the radar.
It flies really nice with a great flight model, looks amazing with good textures and a lot of details and the sounds are pretty good too.

It is trully a blast in VR!

Only gripes : I would like the option to see the pilot from within the cockpit (it helps with the immersion in VR) and other types of passengers than troops.
Also, the rain does not seem to flow in the right direction on the lateral windows ?

Thank you for creating a thread in the proper forum section! I was wondering myself why nobody had done this. I am currently on vacation, but will definitely get this when I come back.

I’ve been really enjoying the 500 on Xbox. It feels a little more responsive than the Lama so makes a nice addition to the fleet.

Disappointing that there is no GPS option for Xbox though and having a visible copilot would also be good to have.

Minor bug when the searchlight hasn’t been selected and is switched on the light shows when you look at where the searchlight would be mounted. There’s no beam though. I have search light on/off assigned to the same buttons as landing/taxi lights on/off.

Seeing rotors turning in multiplayer is a real bonus.

My opinion about the HUGHES 500C helicopter:

The developer has improved a lot in recent times, which is very good news. He is making better and better helicopters.

Visual appearance:

Of all the developer’s works, the Hughes 500C is the best in my opinion. The external model is detailed and of high quality, but there are several elements that are not well-developed. I am thinking of the wire cutter, for example.

There are some parts that are connected in the wrong place.

There are also several elements and parts on the helicopter that have jagged edges, the developer used few polygons. This spoils the overall picture and visual experience. In the external view, the glass effect on the helicopter is barely visible, very weak.

Cockpit modeled in high quality detail, using high-resolution quality textures. Unfortunately, it can also be said here that there are elements and parts with jagged edges. The development of the vent on the door is also incomplete.

Also, the temperature indicator is of poor quality. The glass effect on the cockpit instruments is missing or very weak.

I found flaws in the quality of all the paint variations. It’s unbelievable that none of them were done perfectly.


The helicopter sound pack is very high quality, realistic, professional work.

The flight dynamics are very well done, enjoyable.

I really miss that the helicopter is not available in career mode.

I really miss the co-pilot and passengers.

In my opinion, there is still something to improve on the helicopter, but overall it was well done, congratulations to the developer.

Glad to see a dedicated thread! I literally own every helo in MSFS 20/24 - the 500C is at a new level, starting off with the native 2024 flight model, which is a huge immediate difference. The handling, collective control and engine sounds are incredible vs what has been available before. I have been flying the heck out of this one - nothing else in the helo lineup matches in way of flying immersion IMHO.

Another iconic bird I wanted to have. I like it but unfortunately it suffers the same engine sound loop errors as the other releases. Every few seconds you can clearly notice how ending and starting sounds in the loop do not match or are not properly aligned, resulting in a sound crack. Exactly the same history as with Lama and Alouette that still produce such error, at least in the Marketplace editions I own :roll_eyes:

I haven’t noticed this bug, also have the marketplace version. When do you hear that? during startup? once its running?

I have noticed it flying with the doors open today. Once you hear it you can’t unhear it, unfortunately. It sounds almost like a bee suddenly piercing through a layer of clingfoil. :grin:

I’ll make a little video tomorrow to showcase the issue. But beware, like I said, once you hear it … you will hear it. Ignorance is bliss, and all that. :wink:

The 500 is all I’ve been flying since it came out, never with doors and have never heard a sound issue. Except that the change in pitch with engine activity is great.

Sound loop is easily fixable and already on the list of things for the next update :slight_smile: cheers guys!

During flying with doors removed is quite noticeable. On Lama and Alouette is the same but a bit softer. Huey seems to be fine or I didn’t notice it at least.

I would be happy to see a detailed list of what will be improved and developed on the helicopter. It would be nice to have detailed information about the developer’s plans. In my opinion, the product was released too quickly, certain elements and parts are not sufficiently developed and textured. Several functions are missing, it is not available in career mode.

I like this helicopter, I hope it will receive the necessary improvements and functions. I don’t want it to be an unfinished product.

Good luck with this. Most developers don’t provide this, which is why it is always better to wait and see how things progress. None of the texturing that you mentioned, would bother me. I am more interested in the flight model. Everyone is different though and prioritizes different things.

I have been flying this since it came out. Very nice flight model. I prefer the long legs. Set up a haptic system, and using FSRealistic as well. Mapped the starter and throttle, what a blast!!! On a side note, I didn’t think aircraft with weapons would be distributed on the Market Place. ??
