TERRIBLE LOD is destroying a potentially great sim! (DISCUSSION)

I assume (but, assume) the XBOX is indeed able to handle the beauty of the sim in its default state, but its becomes troubling when trying to add the memory required for a PMDG 737 for instance. They have to sell through the marketplace though (for XBOX users, as PC users bought 'm directly) and now they’re sacrificing texture memory to allow for heavy 3rd party addon memory.

Blockquote Many places are absolutely fine (eg never had it in the US

Try flying around Orlando and the surrounding area. Seen it at KORL and outwards up to 80 miles away.

I guess we could catalogue an huge list of affected areas. More useful would be to understand the cause and why it should be that some areas suffer and others do not. I’ve not read this whole thread though - maybe the cause has already been isolated?

After a few months out of SIM due to visual degradation, I return today equally disappointed. I’m on a Series S and I claim that this console once housed this Sim with amazing visuals. The VFR experience is completely ruined due to the visual degradation. It’s getting worse and worse to house complex avionics and honestly I think consoles should have a smoother flight simulation experience. The solution will be to wait for MSFS 2024 to see if it revives. I’m pretty much giving up on the Sim these days.

Yes, it’s really sad, there will never be a statement from Jorg or Asobo here either.

Maybe we should do a public community letter, coupled with a strike. IVAO and Vatsim should stop operations for 24 hours and at a certain time all join at a certain airport via Asobo headquarters. This is how you get attention

Putting the sim on Xbox is one of the reasons MSFS exists at all.

They don’t care.

Very true, without Xbox MSFS2020 would likely not have been given the green light.

Hindsight is easy, but… Asobo should probably have ensured that it works on the boxes before launching instead of making significant visual downgrades to make it work, disappointing many of us simmers in the process…

What is boggling to me, is how many who can’t tell any difference.

I have read on many other sites where people are furious and many who has simply given up a long time ago.

I’ve never had these experiences with any other game in my life.

most of my fellow players have stopped with msfs2020 because of the downgrade and will not buy 2024.

To be honest, I’m getting tired of looking at these messes, but there are still memory and performance problems

No, it’s pretty unique that a game is made worse over time, as far as visuals go anyway. On the other hand, it’s also pretty unique to get this much new content for free (WU’s, AAU’s, planes etc.), so I guess you could argue it balances things somewhat

Me personally, I’m on the XSX and I have Game Pass, which I’d have anyway, so I can’t complain too much not having spent a dime extra for the game itself. If anything, I’m super grateful that it brought me back to simming after a very long hiatus and I’m still enjoying it a lot. But I too do miss how gorgeous MSFS once looked.

Here’s hoping 2024 will improve things. 2020 I think is a lost cause.

I wouldn’t say a lost cause, but as far as development is concerned, think of it as Windows 10, and 2024 as Windows 11.

I seem to remember they themselves have stated they have pushed this iteration about as far as it can go, and sadly that includes making significant changes to it since the XBox release that have on occasion had detrimental effects. Some may remember when they completely removed the ability to cache off-screen data, and turned the PC version into a stuttering mess. They seem to have chipped away at it to get it to work, and even after all this they still have black screen issues.

2024 seems to have been a necessary step to fix this.

Yes sure, I agree. What I meant with “lost cause” was that we won’t being seeing 2020 going back to what it once was in terms of visuals - but let’s keep hoping 2024 will deliver.

Thanks and yes I understand that theoretically that makes sense, but there is no real evidence or statements to prove or even insinuate that it’s “because of Xbox”. Again, Xbox was great just a few months ago at the beginning of the year. I was watching a guy on YouTube with a 4090 and 4k, honestly there wasn’t much difference in what he was putting out compared to my Xbox at 4k. So I don’t know maybe that’s right, but I think the theory came from disgruntled PC simmers who are just “blame Xbox!” For everything without real proof. I think some of that comes from the WASM accommodation. But even if that’s true, why would Xbox changes affect PC so dramatically. Just doesn’t add up to me.

This guy on YouTube with a 4090 and 4k, was he running a “modern”, 2023 MSFS or an initial one, which we had in the beginning? Xboxization has its effect on this sim and this effect is visible. Modern clouds are not as great as before for sure. And modern lighting as well. I clearly see this with my GTX970:))) Middle clouds look more natural on my PC than Ultra - and for us, users, this happened after they moved to Xbox.

There are plenty of people playing MSFS on PCs much weaker than the Xbox. Heck I took part in the original Alpha on my previous PC that was pretty weak in comparison.

I use both version these days. And I’m mostly happy with both. But I’m a GA flyer, not someone who deals with the game’s airliners.

It was from a few weeks ago, he had terrible draw distance.

Respectfully, do you have a source for this conclusion? Or is it speculation?

I agree there is visible degradation, but what leads you to believe Xbox caused this…and how did it cause it on PC?

This is very simple. People on PC who are aware of this, just does not have the need to prove it.

We’ve been here all the way and it’s very very very obvious whether you request proof or not.

Aware of what exactly though? Degradation of graphics, sure and agreed. Aware that is what caused by Xbox…that’s where I ask how and why and no one has an answer.

And remember Xbox series X at the beginning (at launch) was beautiful as well. Go back and check out some videos.

Again respectfully, you don’t have to provide proof (though if it’s true would be nice and then Id believe it) but to suggest it’s a fact is misleading.

Xbox was introduced on SU5.

Many of the major issues now, are still limping from that update.
Sure Xbox looked “beautiful” on launch. But that day, people who had been on PC up until that day lost aprox 2/3 LOD. AA was changed and does not look good as before. Stutters was introduced, and that weird ghosting behind moving objects.
