Absolutely not. But changes to the sim that have most likely been made to accommodate it probably are.
I have a mental image of someone chipping away at a hunk of rock. Somewhere inside is Michelangelo’s David. Chip, chip, chip. Suddenly it’s revealed. They keep on chipping, and off comes an arm.
I fear nothing will change anymore in MSFS 2020. Look at the superficial changes in SU13 beta. Still no option to disable the white dot for example, which should be the easiest thing to implement. I think we will see better LOD and graphics in MSFS 2024 and MSFS 2020 will stay this way forever.
I hope you’re right. I’m still very skeptical though. As long as the sim has to run on a console with limited hardware, my fear is that PC users will still be held to those limitations.
Maybe a question for @Parorng who has brought some substance to the theory, is this how games normally work? I’ve never heard of console holding back the PC version of anything, maybe I’m uninformed. Is this unique to MSFS?
Downgrades occur to maintain “console parity”. Until modders come along and restore all the things that got turned off on the PC version. The later claim comes along stating that they didn’t know enough about the consoles of that time to get the most out of them, so instead of pursuing that avenue of discovery, they neutered the PC version so that it didn’t outshine the console version.
For me its not only LOD, but everything is so dull since the last 2 updates. It seems so white/grey like in few clouds or even sunny. A little bit more colourfull like when the sim was released could be pleasant.
It get’s really bad in bigger much more dense cities, but one thing I can’t complain about is
the sim is really quick about it in my personal experience with ZERO actual FPS lag. It will usually dissolve and then regenerate autogen (dissolve buildings then repopulate/render them) in under 5 seconds to the point you really have to be eyeing the terrain to notice it. It only happens to me in huge major cities( Hong Kong, Sao Paolo, Paris etc etc) every now in then on the initial approach scenery load. I’m on what some may call older hardware though. It could also be a VR issue on my part as well.
