TERRIBLE LOD is destroying a potentially great sim

The graphic downgrade is becoming more evident every day. Honestly, I don’t know if it’s a server issue, a hardware issue, or whatever. The beauty of this game was the landscapes and cities and that’s gone. This has taken away my desire to play this simulator.

Could not agree more! I have 416 hours on Series X and I’m starting to get fed up of it. No thunderstorms, SU10 was brilliant and then 11 is a backwards step? How can that happen

I don’t remember the last time I saw lightning and thunder in the simulator. The washed-out surface of the ground is annoyingly ugly, it spoils the pleasure of flying, especially VFR flights. I think it’s time for MS/Asobo to be more assertive on consoles. The simulator was once excellent in its graphics and today it is a horrible thing.

I think the last time I saw one was June last year? They never even told you it was being took out, and not a hint of when or if it’s coming back. I agree with you, the console needs a good rework…… like SU10 had supposed to be! I do low and slow with a mate, but the downgrades are spoiling it

I think this is becoming an interesting thread one I have been following too see where it goes . SU10 for me was great especially after the previous SU’s. It seems far superior to what we have now ( I agree the weather needed tweaking) however I’m starting to get the feeling we just have to accept the SIM in the standard it is . Which is a shame because this game has been a standout in this generation compared to all the remakes they keep churning out , a game for this generation of console but it seems a step to far .

I mentioned this problem a few weeks ago… flying at night is currently out of question, just awful!

Slightly off-topic, but there is definitely lightning in SU12 Beta. The featured current event is a landing challenge and there is lightning during the event. Perhaps it has been fixed for SU12.

Is that using live weather?

Ah, good point! I bet it is custom to the scenario.

Yes, you’re right. I don’t fly so much at night but the problem is definitely there. In big cities lights load in squares and that’s simply awful. In smaller cities the lights slowly fade in, even before SU11.

Are you guys in the latest beta build? Because i really thought the night lightning had drasticly improved when i flew at night yesterday. I noticed it because this was annoying me as well, but yesterday it really looks fantastic.

I even took a picture of it, but unfortunately i had deleted it.

The complete lack of thunderstorms is on par to missing clouds in a flight sim.

Has this even been mentioned by the developers???

For a Flight Sim as ambitious as MSFS to have boring weather no thunderstorms no change of seasons has been some of the biggest flaws.

Does not sound like a Live Weather. That sounds like a canned Weather Theme for that landing challenge only.

This has got worse in the Beta. Looks like a patchwork now

Nope, just removed thunderstorms with no mentoon of anything. Very poor communication

Im using live weather, took off from Indiana last night, where there was thunderstorms, but nothing happening in the game. Just rain and cloud cover

I don’t know if this is some placebo effect or whatever sorcery it is but before the AAU1 public release, I was in the beta and have had an improvement in TLOD. Shortly after the public release of AAU1, my LOD went back to pre AAU1 beta conditions. However, in the SU12 beta, my TLOD improved to beyond AAU1 beta standards or I should say even better. Clouds are better as well from my observations. Hopefully it remains this way.

I’m on the Series X and have multiple scenery, livery and ground add ons. So far so good.

That aside, I only ever fly on the 787-10 between South East Asia and Perth. Went to test out the discovery flights and everything seems to be crisp and detailed even at 6000 feet in the DA40.

Besides LOD improvements, I would say I’m pretty satisfied with the performance so far. The slight stutter here and there, I suppose they would polish it up in the next builds to come. Turbulence is amazing as well, realistic and well simulated.

My only gripe is that the 787 still has issues and would love for the dev team or WT to give the aircraft some attention to detail. Oh and ATC is pretty bad still. Other than those issues, I’m stoked to see what WASM brings to the Xbox. Exciting(hopefully it stays that way) days ahead!!

I’ve had the same experience

Gotta be that the beta servers are less crowded. Cause there’s no technical explanation in the update to account for it.

And what a relief to find out it’s a streaming issue. The LOD scaling is still a little to aggressive for my taste, but not as bad as feared.

I’ve not had mass amounts of time for focused flight, but from what I have done, I’ve been extremely impressed with how the sim is looking and performing.

Here is a nice video explaining the impact of trafic density, terrain LOD and Object LOD on fps: https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/clG_8HpTlGM
