It could also be the same problem they had long time ago with one of the update, where AI traffic was accumulating all along your trip. E.g. flying from LA to NY and LA AI planes was still managed at the end of the fly.
Edit : I only do short fly (<30min) so I’m not impacted…
Not it, I disabled all AI traffic and it still happens
Funny thing tho, I been flying a lot on WTs CJ4 and I always get this bug, I’ve just done a 3h flight on the CRJ550 and I didn’t get the performance degradation, maybe it’s something to do with the mod? something to look out for
I’ve just completed a flight from Atlanta to Asheville using the Aerosoft CRJ-700. I experienced massive freezes lasting about 30 seconds each, which occurred every 3 minutes approximately. The freezes were accompanied by the fan on the PC working really hard. Earlier today, I flew the Aerosoft CRJ-700 from El Paso to Phoenix with no issues at all. Last Thursday I experienced freezes flying out of London Heathrow flying the FBW A320. After about 10 minutes there were no further freezes. I never experienced freezes before the latest update.
Just from reading posts Atlanta area is notorious for poor performance.
I generally fly two or three hours and have no issues either - but I have 32Gb RAM and am usually in Steam Gauge aftermarket GA aircraft like the P149 and JF Arrow and away from major airfields.
Clearly some people ARE having issues but it is not universal. The trick will be pinning down exactly what triggers it for those people and not others.
So if it’s not AI traffic, and the CRJ don’t have this problem as it seems, I bet for the heavy screen instrument panels. CRJ seems to use another system to display cockpit screens. Devs work on this part they said as they try to separate their management from the mainframe task.
Wild guess! ![]()
It’s interesting that only now the problem seems to be affecting a large number of people, there were already many threads discussing about performance degradation over time. Hopefully now that the issue is impacting a lot of people, Asobo will concentrate their efforts on that issue
some users (including myself) have had that issue (or similar issue of fps drop over time) since launch and it still hasn’t been fixed
would throw my 2 cents in here too - a marked performance degradation since SU4. In the CJ4 I’m getting sub 10 fps where as before it would have been locked at 60. I’m not sure what the issue is, as my CPU is only at 40% and my GPU is barely hitting 20%
It’s very frustrating. More so because we don’t know when it’s going to be addressed. Seems completely unreasonable to expect ‘early adopters’ on PC to wait until the Xbox version has been released.
One major problem with MSFS is that it allows users to set whatever graphics settings they want without giving any warnings or errors if the hardware cannot support settings. The only “warnings” are FPS in the teens, memory exhaustion, stutters and pauses.
The only way to maximize FPS is to adjust settings so that the GPU is at 100% utilization.
If you want maximum FPS without stutters or pauses @ 4k or 2k or 1080p, then adjust the graphics settings LOWER to push graphics processing to the GPU to drive the GPU to 90-100% utilization. Start by changing LOD settings to 50 - 80.
If you want maximum quality and detail graphics frames @ 4k or 2k at 1080p, then adjust the graphics setting HIGHER to push graphics processing to the CPU. Start by changing LOD settings to 150-200 or use a hack to set them to 400-500.
I’ve done some testing changing ONLY the two LOD setting from very high (400) to a medium setting (80). Over NYC decreasing the LOD settings improved FPS 3x (11 to 33) driving GPU usage from 52% to 100%. Over farmland decreasing the LOD settings improved FPS 1.8x (17 to 32) driving CPU usage from 59% to 96%.
YMMV depending on your hardware and monitor resolution.
It is up to each user to decide how much graphics quality vs. FPS performance is configured.
Just for reference, i’m having the same issue since SU4 and I don’t have the WT CJ4 installed. Only using the A32NX. Given what BowedGuitar1430 said, I guess the cause of this issue probably goes beyond any single aircraft mod.
I don’t understand why Asobo hasn’t said a thing about these issues, and for a jumping 787 they release a hotfix after a couple of days.
you’re kidding right? So you are telling me that it’s normal to start a flight with 60fps and finish it with 15fps 2 hours later on a 8700k @4.8, 32gb @3200mhz, RTX 3090, on med/hiigh settings 2k in the middle of nowhere? Sure this must be totally not a sim issue, it’s a user settings issue.
Please, if you are not having any issues count your blessings, but do not assume incompetence on dozens on people on this thread alone, which are having performance issues since WU4
Are you replying to the correct post? I’ve never said anything about starting a flight @ 60 FPS. My system cannot do anything above 35-40 FPS on a good day.
I think it is if FPS craters while flying. I can fly 2-4 hours without any FPS decrease.
No FPS issues but:
VFR Moving map doesn’t move
GNS 530 map doesn’t move
Lost functionality on GPS’s
Does anybody know what data will be lost on a Reset?
Last resort to fix Update IV problems is to try a reset. I do not know what Data Will Be Lost but I have tried everything.
Windows up to date
GPU up to date
Community Folder empties
All Mods updated and installed individually
I lost a lot of funcitionality with Update IV.
Very frustrated with the update process.
Maybe I do have an FPS problem.
My GPS refresh rate has always been high, maybe FPS is not fast enough for the moving map to update “live”. I do get a GNS map update for distance and ETE is I switch in and out of the FPL but the map nor aircraft symbol doesn’t move.
I’m telling you what is the issue beeing reported in this post, in this case that what happens to me, if you don’t have it, lucky you
