I found the Top Gun SR-72 or whatever it is stretching it already but this goes way too far in my opinion. These fantasy crafts have nothing to do anymore with flight simulation. I mean great if a 3rd party comes up with this kind of stuff, but Asobo themselves? If it would be something actually existing like a Falcon 9 with Dragon, demonstrating the physics, atmospheric density and what not I could see some use for it, its a stretch but ok. Instead of focusing on stuff that actually matters (like fixing bugs) we are focusing on this nonsense now? I’m afraid this product is heading in the wrong direction…
Really sad day for MSFS, good day for Austin Meyer I could imagine…
SR-72 isnt a totally imaginary plane, it was modeled after a current project being developed @ skunkworks. Russia has recently announced that they have such a plane and Im sure the Chinese have one as well. As for the information revealed about the REAL plane the mach 10 speed isnt correct, the current speed of the REAL plane is reported to be only mach 6. Skunkworks even indicated that the fictious plane and the real plane resemble each other as well.
I’ll just chime in here and say that I had FUN figuring out how to span great distances in this FREE model. Landing, of course, was most difficult.
Where you draw the line between accurate and workable is directly proportional to sim usefulness.
I’ve seen a $300K simulator programmed for “SPACESHIP” in DEMO mode. Spaceship Mode revealed through elimination, all of the extra simulated environmental variables.
Yesterday, a friend learned some of the procedures required at a mid sized airport by watching over my shoulder. It related to his last vacation.
Well, the FS grump team never disappoints here is an actual picture of their last meeting:
Anyway, I’ll quote Jörg Neumann from the latest interview about that:
“We are not an arcade game. We don’t ever want to be an arcade game. We want to be a sim. The Halo people gave us a lot of freedom. They gave us the stats, and then they said, “Please make it as good and as deep as you can. Of course, there is some invention that you have to do. Halo is not exactly a systems-deep thing, but we wanted an autopilot and you saw the things that we did. I think that as long as it feels like you have to learn it and it’s a simulation and not like a rocket ship flying at Mach 10 to space…”
To be back on track: the space shuttle orbiter seems to be something considered at least for msfs later - in the Smithsonian Museums trailer/partnership video they at least talked about that
That’s true. And for those that remember, before the F-117 Nighthhawk was eventually acknowledged as being a real aircraft, rumours had been circulating for years about its existence. Some video game companies released titles that were basing themselves on this rumoured plane, but because nobody who knew for sure was talking, what we got was this:
It bore little resemblance to what it was intended to represent, and I have no doubt Darkstar will be no different. We may see it on TV in the next 10-15 years, I expect.
Really enjoyed my few flights in the pelican, it’s more proportional to the Halo games pelican rather than Halo show lol. Once in flight mode it feels a little underpowered for a “space ship” but still enjoying flying it nonetheless.
