The Pentagon is tracking a suspected Chinese high-altitude surveillance balloon over the continental United States

Taken from my home in Myrtle Beach this afternoon before shoot down.

The balloon seemed MUCH bigger to the naked eye, camera phone did it no justice, it honestly must have been absolutely gigantic to be 60k feet or higher.
Second pic was the contrails from circling F-22’s

Flew over me today! I was one state away from its final resting place, so I didn’t get to see the fireworks. Rest in peace, abundantly visible alleged spy balloon!

There’s a TFR for Myrtle Beach:

On A Lighter Note…
This was Bing Map’s attempt at finally updating some of its map data!

Some reports about the balloon shot down over Yukon, Canada now point to a 32 inch Mylar ham radio hobby balloon. Comments about the story aside, why are those things allowed? Given that this one was flying in the 10,000-12,000 meter (33-39,000’) altitude range, couldn’t one of those (and their electronics payload) sucked into an engine ruin the day for a plane full of people?
