There are many things coming from the servers (textures, for example), but also some things are done locally. Things like anti-aliasing, shadow maps, ambient occlusion, the lighting itself are rendered locally and to me it looks like the Xbox version of the sim is heavily compromised in this regard. Yes, the “4000x more ground detail” is there, the 3D foliage is there, but I’m afraid all this added geometry leads to other graphical aspects being turned down to below-minimum settings, resulting in scenes that simply look worse than in 2020.
Wow.
How could they think it would be a good idea to port it to Xbox in this state?
Does anyone else have the same mouse & joystick problems?
My mouse cursor is really big and the click is opposite such as right click is now click/ interact and left click (hold) is move camera but its wayyy to quickly and I can’t find any setting to change or fix this problems. If anyone has a solution help would be appreciated.
When possible Im going to download and store locally as much as I can.
I’ve seen much better LOD on Series S before MSFS2020’s SU15. The 2024 one is terrible. I hope it gets improved.
Please read the room mate, £200 and I can’t even load the game, yea I will try to be better!
The cockpit in 2024 somehow lacks depth. The lighting is “flat”, there’s not enough definition and shading. The outside lighting may be more realistic in a way, but on the whole I think the overall image is worse. In my opinion shadows and shading in general suffered the biggest compromise.
Look at the aircraft’s shadow. I don’t remember ever seeing such low resolution shadow in 2020. It even flickers by itself, it’s so low res. 2020 aircraft shadows were pin sharp.
What’s your bandwith?
If you have the option try running the sim after downloading the aircraft (I haven’t tried this yet) but streaming aircraft seems to lead to blurry cockpit dials and labels and slow to load liveries. It’s not just XBox that is having blurriness I have a RTX3090 running at native 4K on PC anti alias at TAA (not DLSS), and it looks similar - washed out colours, jaggy lines, blurry, so it’s not just an XBox thing the blurryness. Even the general landscape from above looks blurry in places compared to FS2020. It’s just not a sharp visual experience any more.
How do you download stuff, I couldn’t find the option, wanted to store some world updates locally, don’t want to stream at all where possible really.
I have no idea yet. I only got in to the sim for the first time this morning. Everything is all over the place and keybinds and mappings are different, it’s like it’s no longer MSFS any more.
I’m sure I read somewhere a while back that you can download locally any of the aircraft you own though. I may have to do that as the DHC-6 this morning was awful. Blurry analog dials for just about the whole flight. I was switching external view a lot so I’m not sure if that starts of the streaming of the gauges and labels again. I hope not.
Yeah it’s really rough isn’t it, I’ve got into the menus a few times now on series x, but it’s not great, fly now in free flight just doesn’t load in, even the textures on the globe in the main menu has missing textures.
No option to download locally aircraft on Xbox, of course.
What is your broadband like I’m stuck with ADSL so 30MBit/sec tops.
Wow. I’m shocked. You’d think that would be an obvious one to improve streaming for those of us without full fibre connections. I must go explore this later.
I’m on a 500 line but connected over WiFi on Xbox but I get around 185mbps on average with Xbox, going to be changing to full fibre 1gb line in a couple of months.
You’re lucky. I’m probably still 2 years away here. (it’s always 2 years away here lol). Interesting though so your broadband isn’t the issue. I’m still trying to figure out if mine is or not.
It’s clearly just the servers at present.
Above is that really the case, why would they take that option away on Xbox!
That’s absolutely stupid.
There’s an option to change them to 2020, in the Controls options, the first one I think. The 2024 ones are crazy, like the B key to reset the altimeter, no longer being this, it’s been B since inception.
How do you download aircraft locally on xbx?
With the Twin Otter this morning I loaded in at the gate, to find livery missing for several minutes. Pitot tag textures were missing and didn’t stream in, ground textures blurry (looked like FS2000 not FS2024!), airport buildings looked quite good for default, grass missing, runway taxi lines blurry, no sound except some atmospheric wind. Once airborne, it looked better from above, but still blurry to the eye and then the gauge blurryness and switch labels blurry too.
The changed MSFS keybinds and controller binds and missing custom view keyboard binds were icing on the cake. Also no old pause function, just active pause getting enabled every time despite me changing it over in keybinds.
I’ll persevere, but that’s not a word I want to be using with a new simulator. As it stands it’s not enjoyable. I have no interest in the career or photo modes either so it’s a replacement for FS2020 and right now it’s a regression over what I already have. All in all not a great experience.
