This is how MFS 2024 runs on Series X

Sorry, I don’t know how to multi-quote in here, so I am responding to you and a few posts above yours.

“It worked fine for a while but updates degraded everything to an unacceptable level. After the 40th anniversary update, everything went downhill.”

From what you guys describe it seems as though the game is evolving through updates that are more taxing on the hardware and that is progressively making things worse.

I don’t know if that is really the case, but that sure sounds like it. It’s not a PC vs console thing as a console is just a PC. It’s just sounds like a hardware thing.

I hope it all works out and that whatever hardware you guys are using forMSFS2024 works well. I believe that after a few days/weeks this will all work out.

I can’t imagine it has not been tested on Xbox Series X. There is no way they would put this out at the low rez you guys are describing imo.

I do have 32 years, my entire adult career from 18, in IT hardware/networking. I have built my own PC’s since 97’.

Folks, just a reminder to keep on topic.

Also, I do have a real interest in this convo as my son wants an Xbox Series X for Christmas and he wants to play MSFS2024 on that as well as his gaming PC. He has ultimate game pass.

I am also genuinely interested in what the root issue is and how well the Series X can handle 2024.

I played this morning on Xbox. Sim loaded right up however gameplay was terrible. Flying over my city, Baton Rouge, LA the Mississippi River did not have water in it. Cars driving on the ground where the river exists. Very poor performance for me. Playing on fiber internet also.

I’m on Series X and my experience this morning was a lot better than yesterday. In fact London looked better and was smoother than it was on FS2020

See, this leads me to believe that with the huge amount of people still trying to access the servers that MS is simply not able to stream fast enough to load the visuals at this point.

Were there any YouTubers/streamers that you know of who had access to or were part of the beta testing that were using the Series X?

I had this episode last night. Put it to bed until this morning. Loaded eventually but freezes when trying to start a free fight etc. Hotas one recognised but will not work. MSFS 2020 was slow to load but this is worse. I have turned the funeral music off because of having to wait so long for nothing to happen. I am considering demanding a refund as this sim is not fit for purpose at the moment.

I don’t know what you’re doing here. I totally respect your opinion but debating again and again with console users without even try the Xbox version is not only pointless, but a little bit off topic. It’s a thread to collect and share impressions about the Series X version, please stop it. Thanks.

One other side not from this morning, I had a BS for a bit in the A320

on my series x …msfs 2024 doesn`t even load …i am stucking at activating packages ..what…

I have issues with mouse settings not being right handed user friendly, I managed to get my Tflight HOTAS all straightened out but to many bugs around scenery not loading properly, to many inverted settings, and now I have duplicate mouse in controller list, it is just a frustration and highly considering just going back to 2020 until the bugs are fixed fully or just giving up on the Series X and diving into a purchase of a PC meeting the Ultra setting recommendations.

I’ve just tried the sim again. It was stuck at 11% for some time during loading. Long time…
Second impression is not great. Blurry textures againg. Terrain is morphing while looking around and loads slowly. I checked grand canyon and when it loads it looks amazing but just few miles away it looks like ****.

My second attempt was in the death valley. As it is totally empty, everything looked a litthle better

Bugs I found:

  • White dot strikes again. Although I turned off the dot and it was invisible, it was still active in the middle of the view.
  • I can’t assign buttons to move around cockpit. It just doesn’t work.

My steelbox premium deluxe just delivered. Xbox X user here. I’ll post back about my experience

IT doesn’t work on xbox x. The maps loading and loading… Texture is so bad. Where is replay function? I can’t run it

It does work for me

Initial Msfs 24 experience

Step 1- No issue redeeming code on ms store

Step 2-Install 11.79 gb. Began 1pm. ETA 13 min. Done 1:15

Step 3- first time load. Bottom progress bar began 1:16. Slow but making progress percentage wise. Half way at 1:18 Finished at 1:19. No stuck. Proceed normally.

(Hoping the initial load time isn’t a reflection of how long it’ll take going forward l; be it now or after a week or so once things calm down).

Step 4- controller setup and customize identity- no issue (also skipped as I didn’t care about an avatar)

Step 5- at 1:21pm. Loaded into main menu. Controller & UI took a minute to get used to. But fine.

Step 6- try out free flight. Chose kord and cirus jet. Clear weather day time. Loaded into the sim very fast. Plane was in one piece, no anomolies.

Questions:

  1. how do you access the menu bar? Clicking down on the left joystick doesn’t bring it up like before. Update: it’s left stick RB

  2. how do I see and use my 2020 addons? (Planes and airports)

  3. Is there a way to see more than 6 planes via 2 rows 2x3 across , on the choose plane menu. In 2020 it was much faster to find planes and could see more at once.

  • notes:

I see all the world and city updates in “my library” under “streamed”. I also see Premium deluxe items. But I don’t see any of my 2020 add ons. Maybe that’s cause marketplace isn’t available? But Jorg and others said that those items would be available but just not new products or purchases yet. I’ve read some others have begun seeing their 2020 items.

  • Update: I was able to see it once I quit the game and restarted the console and the game.

  • In addition, the loading time the second time was faster. Near 3min. Fs2020 was about 12

  • Upon restart I was also prompted to download and install the msfs 2024 add on support. Which took about 10 minutes. Then third time launching the game, it was again, like 2nd time, about 2.5 to 3 minutes.

As far as cockpit to external view, the default Xbox controller worked fine. Just like in 2020. Tho brake is now Rb and X.

Career- I launched it to check it out briefly. I was able to choose my local airport. I wasn’t to excited about this mode, being forced to do certification and tests. But I’ll check it out more in depth. Maybe it’ll be easy , skip some stuff and have the blue guide lines. But yes it loaded initially but some discoloration in the career hangar. Upon processing to begin the career, only music was heard and the screen is black the first time. I quit the sim and tried again & I no more color issues in the hanger but still black screen when trying to proceed to initial flight. Note I waited about 3 minutes. I’ll try career again later. Fyi, for me, Career mode is slower to load than Free flight or Photography mode.

Notes-

  • for the 737 max, I only see the Boeing business jet option. Why?

-I went to lunch and sim was on pause for 30 minutes or so. Came back and found it just as I left it.

  • Minor stuttering when loading into a flight from the map.

-Graphics wise they are holding up for me. Looks good. Aerials look newer. Theres some road bridges that are modeled now. But there’s still missing or rather incorrect building types and heights of local skyscrapers. Tho on a positive note, while still autogen, a number of other buildings now appear and are of the correct shape that weren’t in 2020. At the least something placed in the correct spot on top of the imagery.

-Trees look cool as do the 3d rocks

-water effects look cool when prop or rotor blades are above it

  • night time looks cool too

-Free Cam is cool. Easier to do than Drone.

  • replay works

  • efb loads but I don’t care about that

  • loading into downtown Chicago is slow to load. I’ve had to re try a few times.

  • as of 4:15pm central, finally got a Bandwidth is too slow warning. - my isp is 300mbps. So it’s not me.

I haven’t tried anything else out yet besides mentioned above.

-it’s cool to see accurate liveries at airports. Ie United at Ohare T1.

-FYI in Drone cam, when zooming back out to an airport, things don’t fully load.

Regarding my questions that were never answered pre launch; I can answer them myself now. Here it is just for fyi.

  1. Will photogrammetry expand to be west of KORD. - No; not as of yet but I hope.

  2. Will there be a way to change plane or livery once already in an airport without starting the loading over at main menu? No
That said, the loading times are very quick now compared to 2020, so it makes the reasoning for the above question somewhat voided. Within seconds vs 10 minutes.

OK as of 4:45 PM central I’m encountering worse graphics and slower performance in the band with message. I think as more people come online it’s getting worse.

Not been able to attempt even 1 minute of air time of flight. Seriously wtf? Frustrated doesnt even cover how I’ve felt over the last 24hrs.

Getting it to boot up, ok, setting up a basic flight path, ok, execution of flight plan, not ok. The game just idles on the map looking like a poor version of GTA V…cmon guys get it together.

Good post, very informative and I can relate to most of the issues you have, I still am unable to see any of my 2020 add-ons but not too worried at this stage, just happy to be in the sim!
One thing I wonder if you could help with, how to switch between camera options and activate drone/freecam, is this something you input yourself?
