This sub forum is busier than ever

Just an observation I’ve made lately…this sub forum is extremely active. Much more so than it was even a few months ago. It seems more and more people are really coming around on VR. I’m hopeful MS / Asobo are quietly watching this in anticipation for FS 2024.

I’ve been a VR user for almost 2 years now…Reverb G2. I could never imagine going back to flying on a monitor.

The future is VR/AR.

Progress can be ignored or slowed down but not be stopped. And anyone who stops will be left behind.
IMHO the biggest obstacle is called xbox.
May Microsobo act wisely.

VR rulez ok!

Just like you, I observed the same and am very happy to see it as it may justify MS/Asobo allocating a bit more resources to VR work.

Naturally, this is all still just for beefy PC users. Imagine if there was a faster XBOX available with VR support!

Hopefully MS/Asobo will take note of this and spend more resources on VR!

As much as I would love more attention paid to VR since that is my preference, I doubt an uptick in forum activity will result in any changes to their approach. Any decisions on the allocation of dev time will be made on objectively quantifiable data like VR sales stats, the number of current users that use VR, etc.

Thanks, Skedge, for “enhancing” my parade!

Well, from an analytic point of view, more activity in the VR channels here, means there are more people running into trouble rather than enjoying themselves in VR and not finding the solution easily, hence they post here.
From all the users out there, i recon only about 5 to 10% actually come for answers here if they run into anything… and most people are asking about settings, as that’s where all the confusion comes in. Everybody wants crisp and clean images in their headset, and it seems to me like only 10% actually get it completely dailed in, after expirimenting and reading/watching alot of tutorials. The remaining 90% is filled with people who are fine with grainy or wobbly Vr experiences and people like you and me, who would love some more insight and knowledge to get our headsets dailed in properly without having to look at a slideshow… i mean, i can run a high paced racesim like Assetto Corsa properly with just a few settings in content manager, why is MSFS so fussy. (yeah, i know, layer upon layer upon layer of data and graphics)
VR seems to be (still) in it’s infancy if it’s not just plug and play like you would a normal monitor. How much knowledge have you gained from installing and using a monitor, compared to how much knowledge you have gained using VR? Was that knowledge nescessary to get into VR and play “like the pro’s” ? Because of all our variables in our nifty computerboxes, every setting needs to be custom picked… i for one, wish VR would just work straight out of the box without having to change any settings and that there would be a proper official settings guide that will tell you straight up that “this is what your computer is capable of in vr, live with it” It feels to me like the one’s making the headsets know exactly what every setting means, and we, the users of this forum, are just guestimating things as we find out that, works for us, doesn’t work for others… it’s just funny at times watching the comics in here, if it wasn’t out of shere frustration that developers have their little niche corners in which normal human beings would have no clue what they are on about as they talk program language.
There’s just too many options out there that work for some, but most do not for the majority of people and it is those that are the ones coming into this forum for help. So, if you know anything, help our VR-brothers and sisters out!

So, yeah, activity in this forumpart a good thing for VR support? Well, amongst ourselves, yes, but we’re all waiting for optimisations from the gamemakers itself… hence the rather funny gifs uptop here… see it as frustration turning into Humor… and good humor at thát, if you’ve been here long enough…

But what the activitiy actually means to me, are that more people are convinced they needed to mount that tv to their heads as they’ve seen others promoting it… so i guess mouth to mouth commercials actually work, but also the many youtubers showing “great VR”. I wonder how many hours they spent tuning theirs.

have a great flight, Captains!

But when after you spend so many hours getting your units dialed in, the VR experience is simply amazing!!! Like the adoption of the smartphone, it’s only a matter of time before VR/AR becomes mainstream. And what world it will be when it does…

I connected up my Quest 2 yesterday after a break of about 2 years. Not a pleasant experience getting it working again with a bunch of software changes etc etc but understandable I suppose after not using it for a long period. Stuff changes so no real complaints there.

I finally got it working with FS20 and pretty soon recalled why I had switched back to pancake mode. Blurred textures and jerky movements in the headset. I now remember that the frequent jerkiness when I moved my head slightly was the main reason for ditching the Quest 2 for FS20 two years ago.

Hopefully there will be some improvements to VR in FS24. To me in FS20 VR is still a headline selling point with not much changed since they first introduced it to the sim. In other sims (XP11, DCS, IL2 Sturmovik) I admittedly still get blurred textures but absolutely no headset jerkiness. To me other sims do VR so much better than MSFS.

I am now back to 2d mode, crystal clear textures and 3 monitors.

i quit VR since my neck pain, and eyes all blurry

Was it the weight of the headset? I’ve also found I cannot wear mine for more than an hour or so before I start feeling neck pains

I read here all the time and am appreciative of the content. Almost wish we had a Tech-talk sub-forum to discuss the same topics, in a VR context only.

Well, might this be what you are looking for… it’s quite a read by now, with 3900+ posts but it is quite techy?
:

That was certainly on heck of a read while getting on my feet. I mean separate VR context only topics like “NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver 545.92 Discussion” or “Best settings with a RTX 4090” as an example. I have a thought exercise that I’d like input on, but don’t want to clog up either forum. – Expected performance / FPS gain from upgrading 5800x3D to 7800x3D (4080 & Reverb G2) while maintaining large supersample.

PICO 4, 600 gr with original headstrap
quick severe upper traps knot, front neck pain. after 1 month daily usage of 1 to 2 hours.

make me unable to sleep for 1 months plus due to tight suboccipital.

be careful, stay healthy all my VR friends.

This feels like generalization… :man_shrugging:
Either way this is about our VR tech, not an Xbox discussion.

Well, from my analytical point of view this means that this analysis was not carried out very carefully and was purely subjective. Conversely, you can also come to the conclusion that the majority of VR users have no problems whatsoever, which of course drives them not to post.
I also can’t speak of a learning curve for myself; connecting a Reverb G2, for example, is very comparable to connecting a traditional monitor. And surprisingly (crossing fingers) I only had “problems” at first and very occasionally.
After installing first an RTX3090 and then an RTX4090 as well as a powerful power supply, there is no difference to using pancake mode. I just have to start MSFS2020 and hit Strg + Tab, so ok, that is one more step

But I also agree that VR is still a baby. Yes, that’s right, but it’s growing quickly and can do a lot more than when it was born. And the experience of the third dimension, the depth, is so incomparable that I like to tie a television to my head, I do it with the greatest pleasure

Regarding the “tuning” you mentioned and found to be unpleasant, the following: The essential settings in MSFS are the same as for the flat world view, so there is no big difference. If you want, you can play around with OpenXR and gain some performance on weak systems, but this is optional and not much different than using ReShade, for example.
The remaining settings are not worth mentioning and once you have made them you have peace and quiet. In my opinion, this is not a disadvantage. But of course the glass can always be half empty.

Without any bad thoughts, your pilot candidate Sehnsedahamses .

same here tbh, i was in a quite bad mood because yesterday till today i had some problems in VR, 2D worked, but i don’t want to fly in 2D anymore. Now my VR rig works again, yeah!

My kids love it, too
