Thoughts on why performance has gotten worse

Because a flight simulator can always get more realistic.

Those cars exist, they’re called Alfa Romeo’s.

Alfa Romeo the best car you will ever drive for the 15 minutes it runs properly

I had one of those when I was a kid LOL…Great car as long as you dont off road with them…thats where mine ended up hahahaha!

Yeah I think that’s a little too far the exacting opposite of highway use

Had a gremlin we turned into a gremlin X sort of … that one didnt turn out so well either, but it was alot of fun for the week that it lived…Ah the good old days to have them over again.

What I wonder is that after the performance update that gave a huge increase (can’t recall which sim update atm) many complained about clouds and draw culling when panning, over time the clouds improved and in I don’t hear anything about the panning pop in anymore.
Perhaps the performance decrease is more to do with restoring fidelity then anything else?

The big perf changes (which came with some graphics quality changes at the same time) were with SU5 around the time of the Xbox release.

You can get the draw culling back in settings if you want to test if that restores some performance; personally I found that switching that to the new “ultra” (which doesn’t do frustum culling) has little or no visible performance loss on my system, and am pretty happy with current performance overall.

No noticeable loss in performance since SU5 for me, everything works pretty consistently here. I don’t know why some people see a significant dropoff and others don’t.

Yes thats it.

performance increase=graphics downgrades

graphics upgrades=performance decreases

The circle we will see for 8 more years

I just zapped my drivers since performance has been so bad today, installed one of the precleaned drivers and rebooted everything computers tablets, router etc. Upon return from everything rebooting, it actual was running and looking pretty good at 1800 edt.

Of course it could also just be that somewhere between me and the servers are less crowded and Im getting ‘more’ of a connection. LOL? We’ll see how long it lasts…

-20 hours later
this 600 am running great but the scenery looks terrible quit in disgust
830 am fire up the sim looks good now but I all of a sudden have no sound ???
1300 fire up the sim looks good, sound is back *(without touching a thing) but now I have the limitited t-lod syndrome…

Gee I wonder what another 3 hours will bring…

Um no VR was not planned from the beginning a lot of us put the pressure on Asobo to add VR as it certainly was not in their original plan,

I have been flight simming for 15 years and you have no idea how the third party add on market works if you think they will all be fixed.

Some are fixed, some you have to buy a new version and some just never work again.

I still have addons in P3d V4 that were never fixed to run in P3d V5 and the same goes with Xplane 11.0 to 11.5 when they went to Vulcan as an API.

I can guarantee you a lot of third party addons wont work once DX 12 is fully implemented and never will work again , heck we have addons broken after SU’s that are never fixed !

I am hoping though we will get the huge doubling of FPS in VR as what happened in P3d and X Plane. I just accepted that some of my favorite addons wont work again, so be it.

That is especially true when game developers don’t use all of the modern improvements in technology to their advantage. If the sim had launched as a proper DX12 title from the start, maybe things would have been different.

We will see what will happen after su10 is released. I will always change my settings to use it smooth. Thats the most important to me then if i can tune ip my graphics in next update without loss in fps i would enjoy it more.

I’m not sure to understand can you please share me a screen of your cfg.

I run x3 4K tv so with last updates my setup is dead… thanks!

Do you mean if i can show you a screenshot of my usercfg.opt file or screenshot of monitor setup.

@Tarik94310, I read your topic 3 or 4 TV for A320 homecockpit?, just now and i think your stuck on 11k, which even a 3090ti will give problems for it has not enough vram to maintain, i think 4fps will be max on suchs graphicscard.

What i would do is in nvidia control panel or similair amd set your desktop in surround mode to cover
Desktop resolution select lower graphics to cover whole surround screen, set this screen resolution in sims fullscreen setting and press F11 to save and apply then exit the sim, and restart your pc.

Than open up usercfg.opt file (use search in taskbar to find location and rightclick select open up)

Here you can edit a with simple notepad manager.
Go to the secondary scaling settings in usercfg.opt. and set to 0.200000 then primary scaling set to 1.000000 or 1.200000 (anyway but start low) and save the file, start up the sim, and check your general settings, with dev mode on you can see how much fps, and much more info if it is working and running.
If still to choppy try lower the settings more.

Hope this will get you back to blue skies.

Yes! The user.cfg please

Yeah thanks! I usually set 11520x2160 and 60% scaling to obtain 6912x1295 and works pretty well mix of ultra/high settings but now it’s a garbage specially with dx12, i have to use dx12 because i pop-out instrument for my homecockpit  dx11 sucks about that - today these situation is a trap :frowning:

As somebody who went through the DX9 and then DX10 with FSX, i can tell you DX12 will do absolutely nothing for performance. It is interesting to see the same cycle of misguided hope repeating 10/12 years later once more.

MSFS has always, going back to the 90s, been a CPU hog. Even today it is not really super optimized for multiple cores and relies mainly on core speed/processing power vs core number. Switching renderer will have little to no impact on overall performance.

However, it might allow the introduction of more features and/or removal of existing limitations without performance hit, which is important as this project progresses.

But those who expect magic fix for their performance issues, will be highly dissappointed. On a side note, FSX never got out of DX10 beta. Are we going to see the same with dx12 being the forever beta? Probably not since FSX dev cycle was terminated and project cancelled before DX10 was fully implemented. Yet those of us around long enough remember how MS likes to hype up the DX and usually not deliver on it.

Not only MS, many of us users also hype it up. Even at release many users said dx12 is needed to increase performance.
