Brief description of the issue: TCA Quadrant Settings for landing gear.

Can anyone advise me on which buttons you are using for your Landing gear up/down?

I know the TCA Landing gear lever is basically just an " on & off " button, but I can’t seem to get it working correctly on the Cessna Citation.

When you move the landing gear lever only one button operates in the Flight control Panel and its number 21.

In the latest Challenge, I have tried a few different settings and come into land with what looks like the gear down only to hit the runway, with a warning sign gear not deployed or something like that.

I mostly use the airliners and have been getting away with gear up&down on joystick Button 21 for both.

or is " Toggle gear " the correct option.

I also had trouble with the F/A-18 gear as well

Any ideas would be welcome

You can’t manually assign the landing gear in the TCA Quadrant controls. It’s because there’s a hidden code behind the profile that make the landing gear works. Instead, delete any of your current control profile, and use the “Default” profile. Duplicate that default profile, and don’t touch the landing gear assignment. It’s already set up appropriately. If you change the landing gear bindings or if you start with a blank profile, it would stop working. So make sure you use the absolute “Default” profile as a base, and leave alone the landing gear assignment that’s already bound from there.

Sorry but I can’t figure out how to start a thread but my Xbox won’t recognize my joystick how can I fix this

Thanks very much for the advice Neo4316, I was wondering how it did work fine, and then never again after creating a profile. Just how can the most basic operation cause so much grief, must have been on hours testing different settings. Will sort it tomorrow
Thanks again

Well, have you made sure your Joystick is compatible with XBOX?

Hi marine1245,

Welcome to the forums and please take a look at the link below which explains the Trust Level needed to create a new topic.

Moved to #self-service:pc-hardware category which is more appropriate :+1:

Yes it’s the t. hosta forgive my spelling I’m starting to think it’s either because the game wasn’t really made for Xbox one I can only play thru cloud gaming so I’m thinking that why

Man, wish I’d seen this before I tried some dumb fix for the PMDG that was “geared for” the Bravo. Killed my mostly working gear lever and had to reset up every other assignment from a new default. Uggh!

The new update actually adds a command called “on release” and after doing a few investigations. The reason why the landing gear works on the TCA Quadrant when bound to the same “button” is because the Gear Up is set to On Press, and the Gear Down is set to On Release.

So the sim will execute the gear up command when you flip the switch up, which will send the button signal to the sim and it will keep it that way for as long as the signal is active. But as soon as you flip the switch down, the hardware releases the button and stop sending the signal to the sim. So the sim activates the Gear Down button because it’s detecting the signal from the same button stops and “releases” it.

I guess the logic here is not that hidden after all. But it does take a bit of investigation skills to try and see how things work.

thanks for the explanation Neo4316. Now I have another problem, anytime I try to take off throttle starts shaking and the aircraft goes crazy. And as soon as I land and put the aircraft in reverse, the throttle shakes and the aircraft spins in circles. It only happens the Kodiak or the caravan.

I think somewhere there’s a thread related to demonic possession.

Do you have both the Thrustmaster Throttle Quadrant and the Sidestick as well? (Or basically any other hardware).

My guess is conflicting inputs. For example, the default binding for the TCA Sidestick is with the assumption that you only use that hardware connected. So it has the throttle axis being bound to the throttle slider on the sidestick. But the default binding for the Throttle Quadrant also have the throttle axis bound to it.

So if the slider position in the sidestick is on IDLE, but you are pushing the throttle quadrant to TOGA, then the sim receives both position at the same time, hence it goes crazy.

For me, I reset my sidestick to a blank profile and manually set things up so it can work the way I want to. (I use the slider as Brake Axis to control my brake pressure since I don’t have any pedals) But I use the Throttle Quadrant using the default profile, and duplicate that profile to make minor changes to it.

I also cleared all bindings from my keyboard for the same reason. Prevent duplicate bindings of the same thing coming from multiple hardware.

i’ll take a look at my keyboard bindings. Thank you so much. i’ll let you know

LOL LOL I find out what the problem was. In the Assistance option, the assisted takeoff option was on.

 The first step that everyone should do is to make the assistance settings to True to Life with everything set to Hard as a base preset. This is to make sure that the aircraft is behaving fully the way it’s meant to without the assistance “fighting over it”. Then you can enable the assistance one thing at a time for the ones they need like ATC assist, Taxi Ribbon, etc.

I honestly think that the assistance should be set to True to Life as the default state from MSFS.

So what exactly is the fix for the PMDG 737 landing gear in the TCA? Mine is set to button 21, Gear Up On Press, Gear Down On Release. This does not work.

That sounds about right.. It works for me. But it depends on which aircraft you’re talking about. From my experience, PMDG works but not the center OFF position. But Fenix and FBW A32NX works for me.

As NeoKingRthur says
" It’s already set up appropriately. If you change the landing gear bindings or if you start with a blank profile, it would stop working. So make sure you use the absolute “Default” profile as a base. "

Just copy the default profile, then rename it, and add all your settings /adjustments to that new profile but whatever you do, do not touch or alter anything relating to the Gear up / or down or you will have to start again. ( The default Profile will always designate joystick button 21 for up/down but do not touch it )

Sorry, some discussion above was PMDG related so I thought the topic was PMDG related. I cannot get the PMDG 737 landing gear to function properly with this binding, or a gear toggle binding obviously.
