Toolbar Missing and ability to change certain weather settings missing when loading a saved flight

It’s definitely not an Xbox thing. I’ve been complaining about this bug since release, so almost 2 years now. That’s just one of a few ways saving is broken, and Asobo hasn’t even acknowledged it yet.

Toolbar still not appearing after loading a flight on Microsoft Store/Xbox app edition, 1.25.9.0

Almost a year later, the issue still exists.

Seems like they don’t care about console. ;(

The issue with the missing Toolbar also occurs on (my) PC.

I’ve done my best to isolate two cases on (my) PC in another topic on this issue. One for the missing weather icon and one for the Toolbar being completely missing.

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/toolbar-missing-and-ability-to-change-certain-weather-settings-missing-when-loading-a-saved-flight/342575/107?u=monkfishman3086

Indeed, editing the FLT file can bring the weather icon back. I’ve been using it consistently.

My experience is that it makes a difference if you start cold and dark on a parking spot or on the runway. But on xbox it seems to make no difference. I think the missing Toolbar problem is actually in the binary SPB file that is saved together with your FLT file. When the Toolbar is missing the file seems much smaller than when everything is working.
The missing Weather icon seems to be about incorrect parameters in the Weather section of the FLT file.

Speaking of the SPB file, it appears that the program is using the SPB file data so that if you load the saved .FLT file, the Cloud icon will not appear on the Toolbar.

The .FLT file and the .SPB file have the same filename.

Renaming the .FLT file to a new name resolves this.

Can’t do this on XBox, so we are stuck with the issue.

@Hester40MT, my apology:

My previous Reply was incorrect because I always save the flight before clicking “FLY”.

On my PC, saving a flight while in flight, after clicking “FLY”, on the World Map, will cause the Toolbar to not appear when you load the flight later.

PC/MS Store
World Map

  1. Select KJFK to KEWR IFR/ILS and click FLY.
    Toolbar appears with “Cloud” icon
    Save flight as test.FLT
    Load test.FLT
    Toolbar is not there.

World Map
2. Select KJFK to KEWR IFR/ILS and don’t click FLY.
Save flight a Newtest.FLT
Load newtest.FLT
Toolbar is present.

I’m confused, what is the reason to save a flight before you start it?

I just tried this, I also get the Toolbar, but I’m not getting the Weather icon. I’m also getting a very small SPB file of 1 KB, where in case I save AFTER “Fly” I get around 60 KB … :person_shrugging:

I just did steps 1 & 2 in my Reply above
and it was the same as states there.

That reply was not about the Weather (Cloud) icon.
It was responding to Hester40MT with my correction.

My Reply #45 above describes how to get the Weather icon.
Which I got from your Post a long time ago.

As far as the SPB file:

**** When you save a .flt file, FS2020 saves 4 files.
**** You can see them in File Explorer. (.PLN, .FLT, .FSSAVE, .SPB)
**** FS2020 only shows 2 files, .pln and .flt .

**** Even if you edit a .flt file and save it (as ITSELF),
**** FS2020 will not load your new edited .flt file.

**** FS2020 will load the original .flt file it has saved somewhere.
**** Maybe in these 2 other files. (.FSSAVE & or .SPB)

When you save the flight as a Flight Plan (.pln), FS2020 only saves one .pln file.

Came back almost a year later and…it is still not fixed. Uninstall this again…maybe next year is the charm?

This title states PC.

Don’t know if you are Xbox or not.

There are Posts that explain how to save a flight and keep weather and Toolbar
on this site. (There are so many now that I can hardly tell which one.)

Easy fix but has to be done for each flight (.flt) saved with an edit.
Because you must save the edited .flt as a new flight (filename).

Anyway, you’re missing out on a lot of flying.

How do you do that on Xbox?

You cannot do it on Xbox.

Ridiculous how little they care about fixing such an obvious glitch, like it’s such a basic functionality but they completely ignore it….

In addition to this, mine’s also gone back to starting saved flights on the ground (or in the drink, if you saved a flight while over water)

18 months later and this bug - which renders the flight saving function pretty much useless - still isn’t fixed. It’s not just the toolbar either. The hotkeys to bring up the various toolbar menus don’t even work. Laughable.

It’s very angering. I submitted a ticket a while back for the WX icon and Toolbar not loading with a saved flight. The response: “We just want to confirm that this issue has been tracked in our internal bug tracker. Since this issue will need to be addressed in a patch, we are going to close this report.”
They also listed the status of the ticket as “Solved”. … it was not solved.

I bought the sim after getting a new computer a few days ago, and this issue is infuriating. I am so disappointed.
