That’s an alpha.
You should try SU1 Beta, it can’t really be any worse, and does in fact seem better! (with small amount of addons recommended though).
PS: By addons I also mean minimise external simconnect apps as well. They can and do mess with the sim in unintended ways, especially with the state it’s in at the moment, including the SDK. Keep it light and tight.
I did some more testing with both some addons and empty community folder.
With some addons, in fly mode in VR, switching back to desktop mode results in a black screen. Had to stop MSFS by Steam or kill by task manager.
With empty community folder, in fly mode, I could switch back to desktop mode ok but then the toolbar would no longer open, just the white bar with up/down arrows shows. Also, if you had a panel opened like weather when switching back to desktop you could no longer close the panel.
Resetting the flight then reset the toolbar properly.
This is SU1 Beta. So that confirms a number of issues:
. Using toolbar in VR mode is fine. Addon panels open/close aok for me, work correctly.
. Switching VR/Desktop from fly mode mode breaks toolbar and open standard toolbar panels (eg weather), with empty community
. Switching with addons from fly mode breaks the sim fatally. This could be a further consequence of the first issue, but breaks the sim because it handles 3rd party toolbar addons even worse than stock ones like weather.
So currently not advised to switch VR/Desktop modes once in fly mode no matter if you have addons or an empty community folder.
Go back to main menu if you want to switch modes. It is what it is.
I’m using Open XR Toolkit with Open Composite, which gives a huge visual boost to my old Rift.
My issue persists even with vanilla i stall of SU1b.
What i noticed though, is that it seems like my VR controlers seem to have keybi dings that i did not notice before.
I do not ise the VR controlers in the sim. Only to get the focus on the main view.
I tried to delete the profile for the controllers but it looks lile that is not possible. MSFS seems to insist that every controller has to have a profile. Wether you like it or not.
And as i noticed thos the forst time with SU1b at the same time when the toolbar aituation got worse amd workaround got less reliable i am now wondering if there might be some connection…
I mapped 2 keys for the menu bar both on the throttle and on the keyboard, even though I had already mapped them from aani, but for me nothing has changed, the bar appears very rarely and most of the time it doesn’t even appear.
I don’t understand how this isn’t the NUMBER ONE issue with VR right now. If the toolbar wasn’t accessible in 2D people would grab pitchforks and start a revolution. This needs a HOTFIX, we shouldn’t have to wait until SU2 to get the ■■■■ menu to function the way it should have on day one.
It is a two step process to bring up the toolbar in VR. First you have to hit the toggle key. Then you have to use the mouse to make it visible. I find that middle of the left windscreen works for me.
To turn it off, just hit the toggle key again.
It is the #1 VR issue! Tied for first place with the “can’t click cockpit controls most of the time”.
Not for me it isn’t…and the mouse operation is ■■■■■ as well
That worked for me, but not in the current SU1 Beta.
1-Set the cockpit view mode and make sure you are at the pilot seat and nowhere else
2-Hit the key you configured for the toolbar menu to show up (here nothing will happen until step 3)
3- Put your mouse in the bottom of your cockpit view and move it slowly vertically to the top and the toolbar will magically show up in 100% of the case
I know it sounds crazy to do this each time but this is the only way I found to make it work all the time.
Ps: works also with SU1
Both of those issues are killing the VR experience.
We need a fix
this is still an issue even 6 months later? what is Asobo even doing? if its not fixed in SU2 thats really disgusting. i didnt pay good money to have such an elementary level problem be so persistent.
I mean it’s pretty much fixed in the beta. Just need to fix the clickspots cockpit bug now
You referring to the VR toolbar ??. I’m not a beta tester so I have to wait for the release correct ?
Also, my night graphics look pretty weak. My daytime graphics are looking nice so maybe a setting or 2 ??
Yes, VR Toolbar. Everyone can be a beta tester, you just need to enroll, takes two seconds. Via the Xbox Insider Hub.
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
