I’ve spent an average of two hours a day for the past month and still cannot get a score for the Top Gun Maverick Carrier Landing Challenge. I am using the Steam version of MSFS 2020 and Thrustmaster Hotas X controller. I use the throttle for pitch control and the roll stick for direction. My AoA donut ring is always orange and the FLOLS meatball is aligned. On hitting the deck I move my throttle to full mil power. My Grade Score is always zero and I get a C grade. The grading system reports:
Glide Slope: 100%
Angle of Attack: 100%
Landing Precision: 0/0 (base multiplier for catching wire 5). At other times I have caught wires 6, 7 and 8.
Total: 0/2 000 000
Please help me - I’ve watched all of the Youtube Videos, and read most of the postings on the internet.
Are you using any mods for your carrier? There should only be Wires 1,2,3, or 4. There wouldn’t be any multiplier attached to any wires outside that as they aren’t supposed to exist.
I did read this topic before and increased the cable_force_adjust when I could not get the arresting cables to trap the F18. Tested 3 times landing without full mil - same result - No score, C grade and caught wire 5.
1 wire, cut pass (C) no score. Hook to ramp clearance at unacceptable levels. Unnacceptable deviations in close. Danger of ramp strike.
A grade C is the worst thing you can do as a naval aviator aside from actually crashing.
Not sure how accurate msfs is with the LSO grades but being at flight idle coming over the ramp into the wires will get you an “eased gun” and cut pass too.
Tested a few more times, this is 100% your issue, there should be no wire 5. Any landing beyond wire 4 resulted in a bolter. Any landing in Wires 1-4 results in an appropriate grade. In your case some mod somewhere seems to have renamed the Wires 1-4 as 5-8, as the mission only has multipliers set for Wires 1-4 you are getting a multiplier of 0.
Thank you . After a really difficult and trying time, I can relax. The only mod I added was the Jayshike thinking that I could could practice elsewhere and improve my score. Using your information, I decided to remove all of 96gb content and start afresh. I only reinstalled the Maverick Activities. I had adjust the cable force setting to 0.60 to get the hook to catch.
I just got an A in my first attempt. What a relief! I had a feeling that my software somewhat corrupted because I kept getting a “catching wire 5” result. Your explanation on why I was getting a 0 led to my solution. Once again thank you
After reloading The SuperCarrier Pro by Miltech Simulations, the C Grade, 0 score and catching wires 5-8 returned. When I uninstalled the addon, my Top Gun Maverick Carrier landing challenge worked well. The SuperCarrier Pro needs the Maverick Challenge installed - a possible explanation for my bad experience. Now that I have achieved the Maverick Carrier Landing maximum score, I will reinstall the SuperCarrier Pro.
