Touring the Battleship Missouri and Arizona Memorials

I got some sim time today and was exploring Ford Island in Hawaii in the Jetson One and was surprised I could land on them, exit the aircraft, and walk around.

Not much detail but very cool in VR because you get the scale. I didn’t know how to climb ladders or stairs or if it’s even possible but if there was a place to land, you can explore. I fell off the Missouri into the water but was able to get back on board with a Shift-C.

Would you mind taking a look at the Battleship Alabama at the head of Mobile Bay? It’s pink to me.
Thanks for the heads up on exploring the ships.

Will do and report back. I was able to land on the cross thing observation deck at LAX today. It’s actually surprising the detail. On it there are benches with slats and A/C units with piping and AC power disconnect boxes. It’ll be tomorrow though.

Hey@BoxierDrip98 - you can land on the Alabama! Pink for me too though.

It’s a different model from the Missouri too - lots more deck guns and the anchor chain links aren’t rounded. Will be interesting to see it whenever the texture files get fixed.

I could park in the crow’s nest areas on the Missouri but fall through on the Alabama. But the fore and aft decks and the turrets I tested were landable, though. So you can do some exploring - it’s just terrible looking in pink.

There was a 1959 movie with Cary Grant and Tony Curtiss called Operation Petticoat where they had a pink submarine in WWII. Kind of reminds me of that.

I’ve toured the Alabama in real life. Our dad took my brother and me there I guess not too long after it was put on display in Mobile Bay.

Hey, Thanks for the reply. My wife and I lived in Mobile for a year many years ago. Loved the area. It and the surrounds could you some attention as the GA activity, helos, light aircraft as well as the old Brookly airbase with large transport flights and military stop overs was thrilling. The variety of boat traffic was also exciting. Wish someone would do a Gulf Coast ports and docs mod. Thanks again for checking. It save me the time and effort of removing things from my community folder and restarting the sim several times.
Appreciate your explorations. Hope you post more.

FYI, the pink textures for the USS Alabama have been reported in this feedback-logged bug topic:

and here:

It’s still pink in SU3 Beta v1.5.16.0.

Here’s a pick at the Alabama. Almost hurts the eyes. Voted on that ticket too.

And a test at LAX. Couldn’t do these in 2020 IIRC at least when I tried it. I couldn’t get into the observation area and don’t remember if I tried landing on the Missouri. I think I did though. But at any rate, I’m suspecting we have a cool new capability. I didn’t take screenshots - forgot - but ChicoMick’s Duxford is worth exploring on foot too. In VR it’s all full size to wander around in.

I don’t know what incompatibilities there are but the Astro One for 2020 from Got-Friends seems to work pretty well in 2024. The Jetson One (in the shots so far) seems to honor lots of flight restrictions for safety for a real human. The Astro One doesn’t and let’s you explore faster and I think have more fun doing it. Nothing against the Jetson One and maybe it has a disable for the restrictions? Haven’t looked into that.
