Transfer controls to msfs2024

I noticed my control configuration did no transfer to my new MSFS2024 install. How can this be done as I have hundreds of button mappings

It cannot. They decided this wasn’t an important feature and have made it so users have to painstakingly go through all of their control mappings again from scratch.

It’s astounding that they decided things like showing boats in the sim in the same places as boats are in real life were more important than transferring control mappings!

wow that’s…unfortunate. i honestly thought all of the controls would just auto-transfer over since it’s all connected to our username. or at least be able to export and import. this is going to take a lot of work…

Niether my X52 nor Logitech Extreme 3D Pro settings can configure. All settings work FSX thru P3D and MSFS2020, Xplane. Sadly, not for ■■■■■ MSFS2024. It quacks like a dying duck worse then any simulator lol. I do enjoy the Visual impairment section of options and EFB. Also Keyboard commands are goofed from FSX keyboard G landing gear key. I just bought a Airbus thrustmaster set, that’ll be disconnected from MSFS2024 till it stops enslaving users. I want my freedom of navigation and controller profiles. If I want scratch, ill back a pie.

What a control mapping nightmare this is. How do you even remove double bindings?

Delete the entire binding then rebind the one you want. can’t seem to remove separate bindings if there are multiples.

You can try the following:

Find this path in MSFS 2020

C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache

You will see an .xml called exe
copy it and take it to this other route:

C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache

Now search for this path in MSFS 2020

C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs

copy and take it to this other one from MSFS 2024

C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs

(IMPORTANT MAKE A BACKUP OF THIS FOLDER BEFORE REPLACING WITH THE MSFS 2020 FOLDER)

Try now to see if it saves your settings.

Yes you can , some bindings have about 5 different things attached to them which is crazy by default , I was flying around the Cessna 152 with an arrestor hook attached to my aircraft lol

What you do is go to all assigned and look for the keybindings there you will click on say arrestor hook , which my be bound with parking brake , engine cut off etc : then when you hover over the one you dont want click on it and it will bring up another box to show all the bindings for that key , then just delete it , where the dustbin icon is
You have to do that for all the others until you are left with the one key binding you want .

For instance on my Saitek throttle quadrant I binded parking brakes to T6 but every time I pressed the button the engine cut out as well as setting parking brake, so I went to assigned bindings and found the engine cut out was also assigned , so i clicked on it and deleted it
it showed also my parking brakes assigned , but as long as you dont delete all of them , just the binding you want to get rid of it works fine

Did you try that yourself and if so does it work?

This is ABSOLUTLY STUPID! At Least provide a separate migration tool. I’ve got weeks in setting up the controls. At the VERY VERY least, provide a way to print the settings!

Have you tested? Work?

I don’t see any way this would actually work, since the controller systems in the two sims are so different, with different categories that aren’t even named the same. You can copy these largely xml files into the new directories, but I doubt they would save you much time, since you’d have to correct all the errors doing so will cause.

This is one of the reasons I use external tools like AAO or SPAD to manage my controls. Not only was it vital to make it easier to swap planes, but it just continues to work in 2024 and all my bindings remain functional.

Here is some additional information concerning this disappointing mess. I researched and found the folders (for steam version) that contain the profiles for both 2020 and 2024. My understanding is these folders are the same on everyones PC:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\8720664\1250410 (this would be the 2020 “profiles” folder)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\8720664\2537590 (this would be the 2024 "profiles folder)

If you navigate to the “remote” folder there, you will see the individual profiles. You can open them as text files, and you will see the description (what you named it) near the top.

After further looking at them, I do see that the file structure of the profiles is different from 2020 to 2024. So no simple rename/copy/paste. So you DO have a way of getting the profiles in a “text” format.

I did find a handy utility that reads all the profiles in 2020 and presents them in a variety of ways (spreadsheets, pdf, etc.) that I think will ease the transition and allow quicker setup in 2024.

I downloaded and ran it, and it picked right up on all my profiles without me doing anything (Steam version). Pretty neat. It has a variety of ways of letting you look at your 2020 settings, including just showing specific categories (Menu, Drone, Throttle, etc.)

So at the very least you now know (for steam at least) where the profiles are for both 2020 and 2024, and have a utility for looking at the profiles in an organized neat matter that can assist in setting up the profile AGAIN in 2024.

I saw in one Discord I’m on that a guy with python scripting knowledge says that he could PROBABLY create a script to convert the 2020 into a 2024 profile format, and then you could just drop that file into the folders shown above. But he didn’t think he was going to bother with it. Maybe someone will soon?

MS / Asobo should really have done this. This is a MAJOR hassle, especially since this new control settings system seems to be more clunky than the last one. I finally figured the last one out, they should have just left that part alone.

Utility to gather and read alll your FS 2020 control profiles:

I’ve been a spad user since 2020, but only used it for my Logitec radios. Moving the rest of my stuff now and not looking back.

Unfortunately this won’t work as far as I can see. I just spent the day writing a script to do just this, but when you drop the new profiles in… nothing happens. Looks like they need to be registered in some of these binary config files which I couldn’t figure out, assuming it’s an MS proprietary thing.

Also the SDK specifically says you can’t (wish I had checked that before starting haha):

IMPORTANT! This file is created for you using the Input Application As such, this page is for reference only and you should not attempt to write your own input XML files.

I am also a spad user in fs2020, but what do you do in fs2024 or in spad to get it work in fs2024???

This worked fine - Thank You

I cannot see that .XML called exe. the one and only file .xml in this folder is simconnect.xml. another user with same issue?
