Trees, trees, trees

Dear Microsoft / Asobo Team,

Besides the not really successful launch of MSFS 2024 (from my point of view, you simply have to provide more bandwidth so that a cloud game also works from the cloud), there are a few things that were not good in FS2020 and that have not been improved. I would just like to mention one example here: The problem with the tree size. I just flew in Vancouver and I wasn’t quite sure if it was Jurassic Park. Some of the trees are taller than the tallest skyscrapers. I don’t think that can be right. I’m sure you’ve worked for four years to make the game better in many areas, but these are little things that really disappoint me, especially as this has already been discussed a hundred times.

I’m honestly shocked that this is still an issue. They added way too many trees and it makes otherwise ok looking neighborhoods completely different.

Add the poor quality textures, outdated maps (10 years I think), the random blobs and bridges that look like blocks and it’s just amazing they didn’t improve on any of that in 2024.

In MSFS 2024 I have flown over the far north of Scotland and there are trees everywhere including at the top of mountains. The highland moors should be devoid of trees yet they are filled with them. Also, the single track roads in the middle of nowhere have been given street lights when there should be none. I know we’re at the mercy of AI generated scenery but this sort of thing can ruin the experience.

There are just too many trees in general. In many places all over the world they are too big (still, this was a 2020 issue that hasn’t been fixed), they are the wrong kind of trees for the region (still, this was a 2020 issue that hasn’t been fixed), and they are too dense in cities and residential areas (new issue that’s worse that 2020).

They also continue to appear on mountains, where there should be no trees at all. They also continue to appear in some large areas where there are no trees at all in real life. Both of these were issues in 2020, that haven’t been fixed, and in some cases, are much worse.

For the wrong type of trees. I’ve noticed across the southeast USA, hundreds of miles inland there are palm trees everywhere. This makes no sense, it should be nearly all pine trees. There should only be a VERY FEW palm trees within one mile of the Gulf Coast. In real life there is so few palm trees in the southeast that you wouldn’t even see them from a plane.

I reported this in the Bug Reporting Hub!

We urgently need a global Tree Fix. This tree issue kills the immersion in the scenarios. Not only do the trees cover the houses and roads, but now there are trees everywhere where there were none before, there are too many non-existent forests, you can hardly see the terrain anywhere because of the excessive autogen of trees. And this is happening all over the world, we must demand an urgent Fix from Asobo.

in my opinion, one of the most shocking discoveries is that the trees are a step back from 2020
they look better from ground level, but thats about it

in my view, they look a lot worse from the air, there is way too many of them, they are placed with no logic at all (2020’s trees were very well placed) the colors are all wrong, with this seasons thing that doesnt change the color of the ground texture, the colors look absurd
from the air the trees look like im playing super mario, they were way better in 2020
one more time… from the air
i know they are nice while walking around

Fly over Tokyo and you’ll think they add a Totoro tree as a running joke.

It is an old Flight Sim 2020 problem, the soft takes every shadow for a tree, so there are trees everywhere.
It has never been fixed, Asobo will never fix it.
The only way is to way for local fix by modders.
I made one for Iceland.

That is what is so strange to me about this. I was fully expecting an updated world when 2024 came out, but instead many of the problems of the original 2020 beta from 5 years ago had returned and shown up in 2024 from launch. It is so weird. It is like all the progress that was made in 2020 was somehow not included in 2024.

So we were back to the oversized trees, too many trees, trees in the wrong locations. Countless instances of these issues show up in 2024 in places where it was fixed in 2020, in some cases several years ago. I don’t get it. Are they not doing version control correctly? Are they not saving code correctly? Are teams not collaborating properly? What is happening at Asobo that is causing fixed visual anomalies to reappear as if they were never noticed before?
