Trim on planes going crazy - causes crashes

2 tags are required: One for platform, and one for aircraft.

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?

no

no sure

Which aircraft are you reporting an issue about? (Please also add the proper tag for it)

all defalut

Brief description of the issue:

I am an experienced MSFS pilot using a pc computer with yoke and rudder pedals. On the flight challenges and missions, when flying I find my trim goes full up or down on its own, without me doing any input. It randomly does this and it takes too long to correct and I fail the mission. Why would elevator trim just start moving ? If say I get too slow, will the plane try to correct me by adjusting the trim?

This happens to me when using my hotas with the atr, you can be entering your flightplan into the fms and hear woop woop as the trim moves full down for me

If you want to quickly reset the Trim (Aileron, Elevator and Rudder) , I was able to bind 3 keys on my controller to reset trim when strange things happen.

Great work in sharing a RESET function, BUT, of course, the plane’s trim should not be doing these unwanted, unexpected RUN-AWAY events.

PIDS need some serious re-work – but its not easy…

I know that may devs are working on this at the present time, and I hope that when a good solution is found it will be shared with everyone – other devs & the whole community,

Some folks said this issue had been fixed, where the trim wheel randomly pegs full nose down, during the SU13 beta. At least those with Turtle Beach V1 reported a fix. While I haven’t experienced this bug in awhile, I would like to know if others are still experiencing it.

Thanks!

Today it was my turn :frowning:
After a perfect 1,5 hour VFR flight from EHMZ to EGSU I crashed on touchdown.
The cause is definitely the persistent trimming bug. Look at the screenshot the trim setting was instantly set to -100%. I can’t believe this cannot be solved. I use the Turtle Beach Velocity flight on the Xbox serees X and MSFS2020 #SU13

A videoclip showing the incident

I believe that Events for Elev_Trim_up and Elev_Trim_Dn for Joysticks got broken a few SU’s ago.

It does NOT behave as described in the current SDK anymore.

Reported it, but nobody at Asobo or the Dev forum seems interested, so I reprogrammed the elevator trim for my Joystich TRIM Buttons, in AAO, and now the GA planes trim significantly better, with no crazy Trim run aways.

One can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink.

  • Slow mode,(Short button presses)
  • Fast mode (Long button press)

Im on the TB velocity one and if I barely move the trim wheel it just goes crazy. I have no clue why it happens but its pretty annoying when trying to get the plane to fly right.

This issue with TB hardware was reportedly solved with SU13… I guess not?

For those on XBOX who cannot use tools like AAO, we are stuck with the runaway elevator trim. I’ve resorted to ditching the wheel on my TB yoke (elevator trim axis binding) and using the keyboard bindings to increase/decrease elevator trim. The trim wheel (one of the best bits of using the yoke IMHO) has been rendered INOP.

It’s not fixed!!

Took off last night from Detroit in a PA28, at one point during climb I used the trim wheel and the nose went up, and the left wing stalled :joy:

1,000ft later I recovered but if that was on final or takeoff, I’d be in the dirt!

Does your issue only happens with “flight challenges and missions” and not during a regular flight ?
Does it happen with all planes ? (since you added a cessna-172-skyhawk tag in your title)
You mentioned you are not sure if you disabled/removed your mods and addons. You need to make sure they are all disabled/removed in case you have some installed, to make sure there is no conflict with one of them that could generate your issue.
