Turbulence and shaking. How to turn off

Fellow Aviators,

Recently installed MSFS and have my 7 year old playing it. She is getting motion sickness from the turbulence and shaking during flight.

Question is how do I turn this off or what settings do I need so I achieve smooth, easy flying condtions?

I’d try ‘clear skies’ in the weather panel.

Not sure what airplane, but if she’s flying the airliners - which a 7 year old should do - note that there’s nauseating rocking at cruise altitude when on autopilot. I’ve never been motion sick, but this swaying does it for me.

(Note that you can also eliminate all wind through the weather panel, if any is present)

Thanks for that. Will give that a go.

Looking through the weather settings I have had it set to ‘Live’ weather and time. Ive customised it to clear skies but no wind layers.

She hasnt upgraded to an airliner, yet. Still have her flying around in a 152.

Ya I would try clear skys, or go into custom and delete the wind layer. It might not be avoidable depending on where you are flying though and what is around you. If I get the chance later tonight I will play with it and see if it is something you can disable.

Using the old flight model might do it too. Never tried it.

And I think its awesome your 7 year old girl is flying a 152 around.

Found it! I think.

It was the ‘Camera Shake’ option in General > Camera settings. Had this switched to On.

Will see how this goes.

Cool.

I didn’t even know there was such an option

So that has cleaned up the major issue with the camera shaking. Still getting slight movement in the air with turbulence but will work on fixing that.

So camera shake has fixed some of the issue. The aircraft (ive tried several) looks like its on a rollercoaster. Impossible to control. Checked weather settings and set to clear skies with zero wind. Also changed settings to FSX in flight model but to no avail.

Any other suggestions?

I am trying to replicate flgith condtions much like the old version. Smooth flight. No turbulence. Can this be even acheived with this version of FS?

Next step would be the Control settings (Options) and look at the sensitivities. Making the controls less responsive.

Have you tried realism options? There should be something there as well.

Question. Is it doing this with the aircraft trimmed for level flight or while in auto pilot? Or is it when she hand flying it? If it while she is hand flying it might be some sort of input control thing like it is too sensitive and just constantly over correcting. And sometimes the trim can be hard to get adjusted correctly. If it is doing it in auto pilot then I would think it has something to do with how the flight model works. Like is reacting to the air around it like wind or boundry layers or something like that.

It is almost something I would have to see to be really sure. Is the plane shaking or buffeting in flight? Or does it gradually rise 100 feet or so and the start to sink back down again, settle and rise again?

Hi Severeeno.

Where abouts are the realism options? Ive looked at the assistance and control options and changed what i can.

Thanks.

Hi vladihazelnut,

Hopefuly the following answers your question.

My setup is on laptop (top end specs) and use the keys to control using default inputs. Im yet to buy a joystick etc but will do so soon.

So, Ive flown the Beechcraft King Air 350i and it is impossible to control. As soon as you takeoff its all over the place. Just pressing the key to bank left / right sends it into a hard turn. Descending or ascending is also difficult to control. Even in autopilot it is still shaky as if its suffering from severe turbulence.

Cessna 152 is much easier to control but still having issues with it also. Obviously no autopilot with it.

Ive looked at all the settings and attached photos here.

Going to carry out a flight playing with slew options and the like.

Other settings. Forum only allows one embedded photo per post.

@Swizzle9037
The legacy flight model shouldn’t be used with any of the default MSFS aircraft!

This would explain most, if not all, of the control problems you are experiencing.

Thanks PZL104,

Will switch back over to realistic.

Swizzle

No! You have to switch to ‘modern’. Realistic is still the legacy flight model.

Sorry. Modern.

having done this it seems to have worked. Little to no shaking at all.

Will keep you updated. My daughter might be able to fly again. :slightly_smiling_face:
