Ever since launch, I have been unable to reliably start MSFS2024 at all. I get into the splash screen, it then loads for around 10 seconds and crashes with 0xc0000005.
Full crash:
Sometimes, logging out of the Xbox App then restarting the PC and then logging back in and starting MSFS2024 works. But that only works once per restart, and not everytime either.
I have already disabled all other non-system software, reinstalled the gaming services, used the Gaming Services Repair Tool and reinstalled the game, the MS Store and the Xbox App. I also ensured that graphics and chipset drivers are up-to-date. Other Applications with Xbox/MS-Login also work fine. I do have the game via Game Pass and I suspect its some kind of MS/Xbox auth issue.
Sorry to hear that. I’ve seen success in some other posts about scanning your windows applications to find software that may potentially conflict. Typically around software built for other peripherals such as performance steering wheels.
Do you have Platform Manager installed by any chance?
Saw that in another thread too, but no, I don’t and never had. I had the Oculus VR software installed, but I uninstalled that and that didn’t help either.
And I did end all background applications that aren’t Windows services as well, theres nothing running except those, the Xbox app and MSFS2024.
And tbh I kinda doubt its some software incompatibility, given that it does work ocassionally if I go through the Xbox-Logout/Restart/Login/Start MSFS procedure
I found something else that might help. Again, it does suggest third party apps. I know from experience there were a few times where things like Armoury Crate would be accessing files and holding on to them, causing MSFS to crash when trying to access.
I was able to fix it by uninstalling the Xbox Game Bar. Disabling it didn’t work, but completely uninstalling it with Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage in PowerShell (Admin perms) did work, MSFS2024 now starts up fine and reliably.
Same issue, worked once or twice after installation / re-installation, then this error is displayed. Given a re-install of MS2024 fixed the issue temporarily, and nothing else changed in my config (to be the best of my knowledge) I believe that this is bug with MS2024 that needs to be resolved. Frustratingly getting this same error with MS2020 was the reason I “upgraded”. Also alternates with 'The instruction at 0x00007FF7692C6E90 referenced memory at 0x00007FF7692C6E90. The memory could not be written" error message.
After a few weeks, the issue has started to reappear for me again.
Reinstalling fixes it, but I really would like to avoid reinstalling the game every time I want to play it. I got fast internet, but that still seems incredibly stupid.
After 2 years with this computer this happen to me. Until last week everything work perfect no issues.
Last week suddenly never more start. So follow all steps mention here, but nothing.
Then in a desperate point format and reinstall everything again. And for 2 days work good, with all peripherals and add ons in.
Saturday afternoon back to same error and don’t start anymore
I think this is a bug.
Anyway here stay my r
After uninstalling Nvidia driver in safe mode using DDU and restarting your PC, I recommend installing only Nvidia driver without installing Nvidia app.
I have the very same issue. After SU1 CTDs started to happen (did not experience it that frequent before) pretty much every flight (usually on takeoff or landing, but also in between).
I do not use a motion rig and it’s an AMD CPU and GPU. I have not added Addons or other 3rd party software.
I try after 2 months reinstall a new Nvidia driver. But happen the same CTD at startup.
This time i did a restore point before, so only need restore and it works again with 566.14
How i can update the driver? Is there other way to do it ?
Thsnks
First of all, you’re posting in a topic about MSFS 2024, but it looks like your issue is related to MSFS 2020.
Your issue is most likely related to the Nvidia app. I recommend installing only Nvidia driver without installing Nvidia app .
FYI, with Nvidia driver 572.16/572.42/47/60,70,83 Nvidia app and DX12 selected in MSFS 2020 a CTD won’t occur.
However, with DX11 selected in MSFS 2020, using the same latest Nvidia driver and Nvidia app, a CTD will occur.
Until Nvidia fixes the application and Asobo MSFS 2020/2024, please check what happens if you select DX12 instead of DX11 by manually editing cfg file.
To do this, you need to edit usercfg.opt file and modify the line PreferD3D12 0
