Unexpected FPS boost for dual monitor users!

I had read somewhere that bringing up the VFR map or ATC windows had a negative hit on framerates so I was testing it while flying and noticed some small degradation; I always fly with the VFR and ATC windows open and to be fair I have a high-end setup, which easily handles it.

However, when I undocked both windows and slid them over to my second monitor my framerates increased from 10FPS to 25FPS depending on plane and present scenery! Of course YMMV depending on your rig, but I thought it was useful to post this unexpected and significant boost here to see if it works for other people. I hope it does. :slightly_smiling_face:

Its not an FPS boost. The FPS counter switches over to the newly detached window. If i detach the ATC window and put it on my 2nd screen i can get a lovely 70 FPS (apparently).

Unfortunately you’re getting the same FPS :frowning:

Not for me. I have separate FPS counters for each monitor. In this case my MSFS screen was showing 30-40 FPS while flying, which then shot up by my quoted amounts while the second monitor was still on 90+ FPS on webpages and the undocked windows and to be clear my activity focus and actions were on my first monitor. I wasn’t clicked on the second monitor.

Not sure if I’m missing some technical issue here, but that would seem an increase. Can’t see how an unfocussed window on my second monitor would be positively affecting my FPS on my first and focussed monitor.

For me it’s the opposite. If I draw ATC or something to my second monitor, the game’s running with a loss of 5 to 10 fps.
Gotta say though, the second monitor has a lower refreshrate than my main. No idea if that’s causing it.

It’s the opposite effect for me too, if I pop them both out my fps drops to 31, if I keep them in the game window the fps goes back up to 42.

nope, use the fps count in developer mode and see for yourself, that unattached windows give a fps drop.

remember if u undock the map and move to other monitor the sim stops polling your hardware while the map is active.. thats y u dont have control until u click back on the sim window. that might make it seem like the frames r changing. just a thought…

Hi,
this is a know bug with most of the software that is showing frames per second.
It shows about double the FPS, but it’s not doing anything.
Everyone should see that they don’t have 90FPS when doing it. At least those who claim they can see the difference between 30 and 90 :stuck_out_tongue:

I can see the difference and I see that it’s not 90fps.

And to clearify, it’s not just the numbers in the counter dropping, it’s also clearly visually noticeable.
