Just wondering if anyone has done this upgrade and how it went?
Currently running 5800X3D with a 4090FE at 1440p, at 32 gigs of RAM, usually running the tube liners (Fenix, PMDG, iFly, etc) with PSXT.
I assume it is similar to the 9950X3D but I am also curious if the background apps (Volanta, PSXT, Navigraph, etc) would benefit from the 9950 vs the 9800.
Thanks!
I did this upgrade a few months ago, just before 2024 came out so unfortunately I don’t have a before and after comparison with that sim version. With 2020 however, it gave me the boost in VR I was hoping for, improving some CPU bound scenarios by over 50% thus allowing me to almost always achieve the target 40 FPS I seek for motion re-projection to bump me up to 80 FPS.
With either sim version I can run a bunch of external apps and it barely bats an eyelid, but to be fair it did that with my 5800X3D.
I don’t see much forum reporting of 9950X3D adopters.
Expect me to do it over the weekend :)))))
I am trying to do benchmarks for this with the 7800X3D now before the upgrade, both in FS2020 and 2024, but it’s tricky to get consistent numbers.

My advice is to use CapFrameX. Set it to capture a 5 minute flight with the same aircraft, at the same altitude, on the same flight path.
I typically test with several repetitive flights over rural northern Illinois at 5000 AGL, and also flights towards and over NYC at 1500 AGL. I also turn Live Weather and Traffic OFF so as to eliminate those variables. Keep everything else the same, changing only one variable at a time for testing.

I went from 7800x3D to 9800x3D and don’t regret it one bit, substantial boost and, most importantly, basically killed all microstutters. So for you it should be a very nice uplift.

k sweet; that is good news. Im going to jump up to 64 ram too; the Trident Z5s are on special with a X870 board. Thanks for the reply!
I suggest you get a mainboard with an ‘E’ suffix.
X870E, not X870.
How what goes? I’ve already had the chip for a while and it’s great!
That’s good to hear but stuff like this is why I’m definitely holding off!
Not exactly what was asked, but i’ve just gone from i9-9900 (32gb) to 9800x3d (64gb) both with the same 4090FE and it’s made the game a pleasure (apart from the bugs) Virtually everything on Ultra @ 4k, and very smooth.

It seems to be a VRAM bug that has nothing to do with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Ya the picture clips right at the VRAM part which looks close to 11 out of 12 gbs
Not sure what this is but it’s not related to the best chip you can buy for MSFS I’d say
I got the 9950x3D, and it really is impressive. At iniBuilds OMDB in the iniBuilds A320, making sure I’m not GPU limited, it’ll pull around 60FPS at the gate with TLOD 400 and roughly 70FPS at TLOD 200, all other settings ULTRA. Temps are very reasonable with a 360 AIO, and the clocks boost nicely up to 5.6 (with PBO tuning). These numbers are with Frame generation off, by the way, and no AI traffic.
I’m interested to see how @ERIXX11 get’s along with their chip so we can compare settings.

Upgrade from 5800x3d to 9800x3d, new motherboard, system ram from DDR 4 (3600Mhz) to DDR5 (6000 Mhz), new PC case with better airflow.
Graphics card not upgraded (RTX 4070 super).
Performance and stability going up with MSFS2020 and 2024.
RTX4070 Super card performing a bit better fps > 6 to 8 up and less stutters.
All temperatures CPU, GPU and inside PC case much lower under full load with this new configuration.
PC is now ready for possible upgrade to faster graphics card in the future.
After the upgrade i installed a extra monitor for ATC and flight radar.
The performance of both sims stays good while everything is running.

I’m new here and looking to buy my first gaming computer and it’s only going to be used for the MSFS. Why should we buy one with the E at the end?
What is the difference between AMD X870 and X870E?
The difference is in the maximum PCIe lanecount (44 for the X870E and 36 for X870) and the number of POTENTIAL USB and SATA ports on X870E is doubled vs X870.
In short, the “E” stands for enhanced, so a few more features.

Waiting for some parts! The 9950X3D is sitting in it’s box!
I’m using a B650 with my 9800X3D and it works and performs great.
